Curious...I have heard both, but I think it is most often used "bragging on" or "loving on" in this area. |

Those are the same sayings I use here in Illinois. |
Here "loving on" your dog would describe showing affection to them - hugging them, petting them, giving kisses, etc.
Is that what you'd mean if you said "love my dog"? |
I was about to say i think that a southern expression - then I scrolled down to see the Carolina location and that confirms it. |
Yeah, I think when someone says Lovin on my dog, I would say I'm going to hug my dog, or something to that effect. Isn't it amazing that one country can have som any different sayings just because you are located someplace rather than another place! |
Steph, it's funny that you pointed that out because I thought the same thing. My ex-boyfriend's family was from the south and they always used those expressions. They sounded foreign to me but I never knew if it was regional or just something I missed! |
Being from the north, I agreed with your question. Now that I'm in TN am learning that I need to change some of my vocabulay but hadn't picked up on that one yet. |
It is funny how from different areas in one country there is different ways to say things. Even in OZ (yes we do speak english LOL) sometimes with overseas visitors and our Aussie slang they need interpretation of what it means Even city folks and country folks have different lingos and sayings for a word/description |
I love those little differences in language that develop regionally. It makes traveling around the country so interesting! |
I am fairly certain it's a younger generational thing......and I'm not that old! |
I don't think it's a younger generational thing 'cause I'm not that old either...but maybe it means that I'm old enough! Yikes! |
I've always heard it that way, must be a Southern thing. |
It has tp be a Southern thing. When I first read this post, I thought what is wrong with that? Those are terms I have always used. |
