Not eating

Lily is now 5 months old and is starting this very odd food issue. She wil not eat from her bowl. She will only eat off of the floor. Ive tried putting the bowl on the floor with the food cause I have a raised ceramic set for her, that didnt work. I tried several different bowls both raised and placed on the floor but nothing. She will only eat her kibble off of the floor. Honestly, I cant keep having her eat off the floor because its carpet and its going to eventually stain and get completely slobbered on. In the beginning I was like well she isnt hungry cause she woulndt touch her food so I just removed it and gave it to her at lun ch... again nothing so again at dinner. By then she was so hungry she finally ate but she isnt getting enough nutrition in her so today I tried the floor and she loved it and gobbled everything up.... Any suggestions???

one of those dog place mats with a slightly raised edge

that way it might protect the carpet if she continues to eat off the floor

Zoe what a great idea. Flannigan takes his food out of the bowl and drops it on the floor then eats it. Go figure.
My kels has been doing it for years, mmmm wonder if you can teach an old dog new tricks?? I gave up as nearly 11, that is the way she eats. Thankgoodness for tiled floors, but the dog place mat is a brilliant idea
It's the whole reason King Clyde eats in the living room-- he'd just take huge mouthfuls from the kitchen and drop them on the carpet. At least with the bowl in the living room, most of it stays in the bowl rather than on the floor. We put a nice looking mat that matches the living room under it and it actually kind of blends in to the decor as much as a food bowl can!
I just want her to eat out of the bowl again. I mean she doesnt take the food from the bowl and put it on the floor and eat it she just refuses to eat out of the bowl itself. My previous sheepie took the food out of the bowl and put it on the floor and then ate it but Lily just doesnt touch the bowl anymore unless the food is on the carpet. How do I get her to eat out of the bowl again.
One of my three is a very picky eater. Her bowl has to be immaculate. If I change dish soap, she gets fussy for a few days .... even though I am careful to rinse it very well.
Try changing the bowl out. There are people who can't tolerate food cooked in a metal pan/pot, so those super-sensitve noses on dogs might be the same. A ceramic or plastic dish might be an option.
I hand-fed Bailey at one time, I was so worried about her eating. Even now, some days she skips a meal. Very healthy girl though.
Good luck.
You could start off with a flat plate, and then gradually work up to a bowl. Some people only feed their dogs in Kongs.
Yeah, how about a large "area placemat" ... not wall-to-wall, but I know a lot of places sell very large rug remnants for not a lot of money.
Ok Ill try those ideas.. thanks everyone
