I think he is fine. You went to the vet and he said nothing to worry about. You might want to have him checked when he is full grown. there are hip tests and it might help you then.
Good Luck, Willowsprite is good at his. Name is Stacey) you may want to PM to her. She has good info, Deana |
I agree with Deana... it is hopefully just fast puppy growth and if there has been improvement then it should continue to improve. I would suggest putting him on adult food instead of puppy food, or perhaps on a puppy food for large breed that also has a glucosamine/chondroitin supplement.
If it continues or gets worse than I would certainly have the vet check it out thoroughly, since hip displaysia can be treated to slow down the degeneration of the joints and give the dog improved comfort and quality of life as it ages. Welcome to the forum! |
Thanks for the comments. He is on low fat food right now because of a sensitive stomach from an infection. I just took him on a long walk and he did fine so hopefully tonight he will not show any soreness. |
Less exercise is best for a growing puppy. Low impact, shorter walks until he is past this fast growth phase |
I don't know how true this is, but for years and years I have been told to never overdo the excercise while a youngster is in it's growth stage.
Is that correct stacey as I have heard that while in the growth stage you can damage hips etc with over excersising, letting them charge up and down steps, slippery surfaces etc. etc. |
I don't know if it is actually true either, but it's what I've always been told by breeders, vets etc... I suppose I should look into it... if I find anything I'll post it. |
good going Stacey, I knew you would come through. We all learn here from others.
your input is welcome |
