Nervous about feet

My family has had Fletch for a little over a year. We love him to pieces. But everyone that comes over and sits down and they rub their feet along Fletch like they would any other fluffy dog. My mom and dad like to do it too, but Fletch gets nippy and nervous whenever feet get near him. Does anyone know what I can do to help him get used to feet?

First ask your parents to keep their feet off the dog!! There's a chance he was kicked or otherwise abused by feet or shoes.

Second, try stroking him with a slipper initially. Just a few at first and then increase time.

Simone will not let me put my feet on her, she gets up and walks away. Jack loves having my feet on him. Harry is more likely to lay on my feet and not move.
Hey! You're from Michigan too. Welcome :D

Maybe sit down with a bag of small, Fletch-approved-tasty treats and reward him for allowing the foot interaction? Start out slow with just one person for a while 'til he becomes used to it, then go on to others in a manner that you find works for you. Do it for short periods a few times a day... don't push him beyond his acceptance point though. Possibly by rewarding him for allowing the interaction that is causing the stress, you may come to the point that he is desensitize to it and undestands it's a pleasant thing. He could start to look forward to the interaction.

NOTE: If he's shown any agression though, it's time for a professional dog trainer instead of advice from other owners.

Keep us posted on how he does? Any other advice out there?
Love your avatar 6Girls!

That's what we did with Sofa when we adopted her. She was very afraid of us pounding anything on the kitchen, so we teamed up with treats and hugs to desensitize her. It worked after a few sessions and now she knows she'll get something tasty if she hears something thumping in the kitchen while danita unfreezes the veggies or the meat.
Thank you for your responses. I think it will be harder for us to desensitze him because, yes, he shows aggression when we touch him. He only nips at us though. It's not really an issue; he doesn't bite strangers he just gets up and sort of growls at them. Usually when dogs have had someone kick them, don't they usually run away rather than go after the thing they're afraid of? I jus wanted him to not be afraid of us or other people because he really is a great dog. Thanks again!
Hey, Fletch where are you at in Michigan? There are a few of us in SE MI.

I have to admit, I have to side with the dog on this one. I hate feet on me too-- well it's more socks that I hate but I won't go any further with my "issues" and hijack the thread!
