water dishes

Marley will tip over any water dish she can get her mouth on - she has flooded the tile floor on numeros occassions and has now learned how o take a bath in the pail at the kennel where she goes to day care. Has anyone else had this experience?
We've bought a 2 and half gallon waterer which she can't overturn - yet. She learned how to "toss" the one gallon one when she was 12 weeks old.
All I can think is it will be an interesting summer , thank goodness we've moved to a lake, I guess she'll need to where a life jacket all the time!

I will pray that your yard does not get muddy and she doesn't come streaking through the water spreading mud all over the place. As soon as I read the water in the kitchen thing, I immediately thought of my 2 doing just that-- since they have!
Our dishes are in a raised container that they sit in, so they cannot be turned over or tipped. Then the whole container and dishes sit in a plastic tray that we took out of a crate. It really saves on the water everywhere, as it is a BIG tray, so catches most of the dribbles.
My Winston used to spill the water bowl too. But then I bought a raised feeding bowl that looks like a bone. It has two plastics dishes in it one for water. It was worth every penny for it. He nevers spills his water on the floor or his food also. And it seems he likes it being raised. I think it is a good investment to purchase on of these raised bowls. Less frustration and less clean up.

We have this too! It's great. The first elevated feeder we had was some crappy metal one. Annie would try to pick up pieces of food she dropped on the floor and then would lift her head into the bowls. Nothing like 3 quarts of water all over the floor and under the stove. This happened a few times until we found the elevated feeder that isn't open at the bottom.
Where are you guys finding this water holder, and what is it called? I want one for the puppy... might as well do it right the first time... Can someone post a picture of it, so I know what it looks like, pretty please????

Karen :)
The thing is Marley doesn't "spill" her water. SHe picks up the bowl or container and flips it up in the air over her head and then plays in the puddle! I think raising it up - unless it is bolted to the floor will only make this easier for her. When we had the one gallon waterer she woul.d wait until it was half full and do the same thing (apparently it was too heavy before that!)
The only bowl she doesn't do this to is the Irish Setter's water dish - guess she is still a little unsure of him!

SHe ofter will "flip" her food dish and then eat the food off the floor as well. Not a neat little girl
Here's the one that I have (it can store food...which we don't...I can just see Annie getting into all of it):

Here's another type:

Do you keep anything in the borrom to weight it down.
The one I use is shaped like a bone. You can also store the food in the bottom of it, but I don't. It is not heavy and Winston has never tipped it over and it is easy to clean. I bought it a petsmart and I think it was about $30.00 or $40.00 but it was worth it. I am happy with it and so it Winston. Check out the petsmart site. They have many elevated bowls but the ones with a solid bottom are the best.
And no I do not keep anything in the bottom to weigh it down. Winston nevers tries to move it. But I do keep a mat under the bowl.
The one I purchased is from PetsMart. I don't keep anything in it to weigh it down. I have one of those plastic boot mats underneath.

Got one of those kind of girls tooooo....Cassie
She is a rescue & for the first 3-4 months she would only eat food off the kitchen floor!
May have something to do with her previous owners
We use elevated water bowls for the same reason...
Cassie flips it & Beebles does the the "2 pawed water bowl" dance
Found this...maybe it might help someone :!:

Diane...floor usually very clean near the H2O bowl
Mine is all solid, and the base is bigger than the top, so cannot be tipped over. I can just imagien the ones that are not closed in...easy target for a curious sheepie...iI use both side for water, then the plastic crate tray to keep the spills contained.
When mine were little they would play with their water, Dancer mostly would dig in the bowl splashing it everywhere. LOL
Sky picks up the bowl and dumps it. LOL

I tried the heavier bowls that were supposed to be tip proof, but when you have a determined dog, nothing really works. LOL
I do find a bowl that is large and flat bottomed all the way and heavy seems to help. They've mostly grown out of water bowl dumping though....

Oh that is a very nice thought! We are in a brand new house and between the two of them tag team peeing on the floor and the grout being wet all the time from Marley's swimming, I was beginning to think we needed to replace the tile soon!
Avalon also dumps the water bowl. She also doesnt know to close her mouth when walking away from the water bowl 8O Ok so she isnt the brightest sheepie  We keep water outside now. I just put out a fresh bowl everytime they go out. Yes I am cleaning dog dishes constantly
My three also have one of the large water bottles that hook on the side of their crates. They love it and there is less dripping.
For the time out of the crate, they usually use the huge bowl which I refill 2-4 times a day. Sometimes they will bypass the fresh bowl water and walk over to the crate bottle.
My Ben used to "dig" in his bowl! Water would go flying everywhere and then afterwards he would tip the bowl and flood my kitchen.

Hasn't done that in awhile, but summer was fun, we bought him a baby pool!

Thanks for the smile and memories!!!
Bosley favourite drinking bowl is the big white ceramic bowl in the little room off the family room  Always cold.

LOL! Ben must be related to Bailey. He would get his whole head in the bowl, push the bowl around to slosh all the water out, then play in "Lake Bailey". It's funny... now that it's over! The first thing that helped was a really big, heavy bowl. He couldn't tip it and filled halfway it held eough water for drinking but not enough to submerge his head. But he seems to prefer elevated bowls too, he loves to drink out of the bowl attached to the side of his crate and will drink all of that before going to his floor based bowl.
Gus does the "flipping the water bowl" act ... It cracks me up, but it also stinks to clean it up.. And right now, I am using small tupperware bowls to give him water (he has on an eCollar) and during the middle of the night he will chew it up!! He has chewed on every single one of his water bowls.. We recently bought an elevated water bowl also!! It works WONDERS!!
