Belgian Malinios or Anatolian Shepherd

Trying to figure out what Ziva dominant breed is. I still think she has Lab, or Golden Retriever in her...she likes to carry things around, and picked up fetch quickly. Now I also think the markings of the St Benard are also in the siblings, but not so much in her. What others have said about her, they see Belgian Malinios, Akita, GSD, Lab/GoldenRet..what do you all think.

To see her siblings go to: http://www.scarscare.org/adoptions.asp scroll down until you see EVE and JONAH

People keep asking what she is and I just don't know what to say, and I'd like to know how best to train her...these are all high energy, strong, and protective breeds.

Hi Daisie,
My best friend got a dog that looks very similar.
She is a Leonberger Mix.... Check out this site

There is a puppy pic on

Looks a lot like Ziva

Elissa
Always hard to tell with pups as we don't know where those ears will end up and how large the muzzle mouth will be. Then there's the body length, legs, etc. She will be a pretty dog though.
At first, I thought this thread belonged in the Cooking section.
I'm not willing to put any money down, but she looks a lot like my sister-in-law's German Shepherd puppy, especially in the face and muzzle. I'd say there's probably some GSD or malinois in her ancestry. There is an awesome GSD kennel's website, I cannot remember their name, but if you type German shepherd puppy and Wisconsin into Google, you should be able to find it. They breed mostly for police and protection dogs, as well as Schutzhund. They have some really wonderful tips on training these types of puppies, and sell books and videos on the subject. I'll try to find them for you, so you'll have at least a little assitance on training!

Karen :)
Here we go, leerburg Kennels, at www.leerburg.com. I hope this helps you with your little one... she is such a pretty little girl!

Karen :)
The malinois is much sleeker and smaller. The drug dog trainer I work with breeds them and Ziva really doesn't seem like the ones that I've worked with. If I had to guess I'd say Anatolian. That would give you the coloring and size.
The Anatolians are prone to being more of a couch potato if given the opportunity. I'd say the Malinois act more like a Border Collie in activity level.
Wait a little bit see how she starts to develop, you'll get a better idea as she ages.
Until then tell people she's a Heinz dog. (You know Heinz 57!) Most people will just act like they know what you're talking about and walk away.
Thanks, she does look like the first pictures, but I have never heard of them, so it's probably not too common around these pasts.

She's fluffy, and the GSD and the Maliois are common here.

Of course 99% of homes have either a golden, lab, shepherd, or border collie...and any combination of these.

The Anatolian is not as common, I don't think, but they have floppy ears with black faces....of course she can have floppy ears because of the Lab/golden or St Bernard in her.

She has white tips on her toes...just like the Maliois, and Leonberger...
"Lion colored, golden- yellow, to red- brown with black (dark mask). Dark to black tips of the hair are allowed just as Sand- colored dogs with dark tips. Lack of mask is allowed, but not desired. A small white patch on the breast is tolerated, as well as a little white to light hair on the toe tips. The color of the tail is the same as the ground color of the dog. Slightly Badger - colored tails are allowed. The mane, feathering on the fore and hind legs and on the underside of the tail may be lighter, but should be in harmony with the main color."

And she has a broad head....also part of the leonberger description.

But she doesn't have the jowels...like a st Bernard, which can also be part of the retriever part in her.

We are starting puppy obedience at the end of the month, and will continue esp if she has the potential to be a strong, protective dog...I have to have her in control at all times, and very well socialized...or these types tend to grow up disstrusting or even hating everyone but family members and family pets. She has already been to one puppy daycare, and showed herself to be boss to the smaller pups, but submissive to the adult dog.
My guess would be a mix of many things... GSD, St Bernard, lab, maybe golden retriever.....
Daisie,
I thought I would give you some pictures of my friend's dog
The possible Leonberger Mix or what I thought when she was younger a Golden Retriever - Shepherd Mix
This is Star, She weighs about 65 lbs and she is almost 2
She looks very Leonbergerish in the first pic... but also like a Golden. lol

Elissa your friends dog is very pretty, she looks like a lady.

It will be interesting to see Ziva grow up. Right now we don't have see any feathering, her ears, and tail are fairly smooth/fluffy, all growing evenly.

I keep posting pictures as she grows. I guess my best breed desciption will have to be a shepherd cross. Perhaps not a german shepherd but Anatolian, or malinios...when I saw the lady's dog at Laundromutts...(place to groom dogs yourself), it was very close to what Ziva looked liked. He was a malinios.

Someone in our neighbourhood has a dog that looks like an Anatolian, but it has a pale blond body with a black face....aggressive to everyone but his family.

It would be awesome if she has the gentle giant nature that St Bernards have, the soft mouth of a Lab and love to retrieve, the protection ability of a Shepherd.
When Star was a pup she was nothing but a huge fluffball. Fuzzy all over like Ziva.
She was so tiny she would go and sit under the seats in her mommy's car. She still thinks she's that small. Did you notice her eyebrows? She is very expressive.
Ziva is going to be a beauty.
How bout good old Heinz 57 variety???
I have no idea, but I need to comment again on how adorable she is. So fuzzy and cute!

There is one puppy one this website that has almost the same looks as Ziva, and she is Malinois, named Raine. If I didn't see anything else, but her picture then I'd say Ziva was malinios...of course i know better, knowing the litter etc.
while she does have definite sheepdog in her, having belgians myself, she does not look like a malinois...usually belgians have pointed, straight ears, a full black mask, usually not as much white on the toes...this is typical and unless very badly bred, all malinois should have these...i realize she's a mix, but i would say she borders more heavily on a different breed rather than the "mali's" side...
...as for training, i go to a puppy class for the socialization and for the skills, but make sure she has plenty of room to run (a backyard in general)...and i would recommend, due to her probable herding instinct, maybe teaching her to pick up a ball or stick when she's out running around with kids or people...ours liked to "herd" us when they thought we needed to go in the direction they wanted when running around outside.

she's definitely a cute pup...be interesting to see how she is once she's older...it's easier to tell lineage then...
Im in the exact same position i would also like to know what our dog is (which is identical to yours) our puppy looked exactly like yours here is a picture of what he looks like at 2 years old

Oscar1

This dog has the nicest temperament, very loyal and great looking dog.

Oscar2

We also bought another dog from the same litter but im guessing its 2 different fathers because they look quite different.

Tess

We were under the assumption they are a cross between a border collie and a golden retriever but clearly the dog with the black nose (oscar) has some Labrador in him, I can definitely recommend this breed beautiful friendly dogs.
You can now have genetic testing done to determine the exact origin of your dog, Ask your Vet about it.
My dog that passed away 3 years ago  WAS this dog breed. I have no idea what kind of dog this is and I hope to find out what kind of dog it is. I also have a question, does your dog get frightened easy? My doggy did. My doggie got scared a lot. Thx so much. I have only 1 pic of dog and will try to get it on the website.
Your dog will grow looking the exact same just taller. Also my dog was as up to my 9 yr olds wait. She will get very tall :D .
My puppy looks exactly like her. She is 1/2 Anatolian shepherd, 1/4 St. Bernard and 1/4 collie.

Black tip ears, little white feet, a white under belly, and a black muzzle.
