Blue's favorite games

My first OES was an older dog and not in the best of health when we rescued him, so I don't have much to compare Blue to when it comes to play time. Blue uses his feet much more when playing than other breeds I've seen. We say he plays soccer more than catch. Well, that and the fact that he seems to have horrible mouth-eye coordination. He almost never catches anything in the air and rarely manages to pick something up on the ground on his first try. He loves to chase tennis balls, and he's even starting to bring them back and drop them at our feet now. He used his feet so much when playing with them, though, that we decided to get him a soccer ball. He loves it! He kicks it around and now he's learned how to pick it up by pinching it with his teeth. He'll also swat at you with his paws when he's playing or when you try to get the ball from him. Do other sheepies use their feet as much as Blue does?

This last picture is my favorite, because he looks like he's having so much fun.

He really does look like he's having a "ball". :rimshot: Sorry -couldn't resist!

Seriously - looks like he's enjoying his playtime tremendously! Mine play soccer with each other by batting the soccer ball back & forth between them. It's really cool to watch. But, usually after a few minutes Gen takes the ball and runs away with it forcing her brother to play "chase me". Poor Beau isn't terribly coordinated or quick so he never wins. :( Still....he's so happy to play that he doesn't seem to mind. Such a sweetheart. :D
Are Panda and Blue related?????????????? Panda loves to kick her soccer ball around and picks it up the same way...lol....she has punctured two already, working on her third....
Izzie loves to play soccer also. She could play for hours. When she needs a break she will sit on the ball, so no one can steal it.

She isn't allowed to play with it inside, so she uses tennis balls instead. She usually has one in her mouth and kicks a second one around the room. She eventually "accidentally" kicks it down the stairs and must chase it.

Those pics are adorable :) He is a cute dog, and really does look so happy.
My two use their feet more too, especially Sky.
He looks so happy! Annie doesn't use her feet much when playing, but we use her feet. She'll stand there with a toy in her mouth and we make her dance. We touch a paw she picks it up, we touch the other & she picks is up. We've got this down really good now and it looks like she's dancing or hopping back and forth. It's hysterical. She does like to give us her paw to ensure we scratch her arm pits.
Mulligan uses his feet a lot moer than our first dog. Our first dog wasn't much of a player at all. He might play with something like a rope if you were on the other end of it, but he would never initiate play with an object. He literally never picked up one of his own toys. On the other hand, Mulligan loves his toys and will bring them to you when he wants to play. He will also get one of his toys and chew on it on his own.

When wrestling around, Mulligan swats with his paws, and with his paws he is still a little on the wild side with his aim. Maybe I'd be more accurate in saying that he flails with his paws.

As background, Mulligan is three years old; we rescued him at the age of two. His "mouth to eye coordination" has improved dramatically in the last year. A game of catch -- well, used to be more like "I throw, he catches (or misses and picks it up) he brings it to me to play tug" than "catch"-- with a four or five inch pile ball has really really helped. We started by dropping the ball, then worked on a foot of distance, then two feet and so forth. The hardest part for him was to learn that he didn't need to lunge at the ball as it was coming towards him. That has helped a lot with the coordination.

Sounds (and looks) like you guys are having a blast!
Tasker (9 yrs, I've had him since he was 6 wks) definately has NO mouth to eye coordination. I finally gave up trying to get him to catch a ball or a frisbie. He will use his front feet to grab a soccer ball or toy but to catch with his mouth, NO WAY.

Tasker was never big on playing with toys until this past spring when we got a puppy. Ty is always playing with a toy of some sort and Tasker seems to have learned, in his old age, how to play with toys. I always tried to get him to play with balls and toys but Ty has taught him more in the last 6 months than I have taught him in 9 years!!

I love your pictures, I adore the "short do"
Don't they love the balls, have you taught him to play soccer yet? He looks like he would do good at that
einys terrible for eatting his toys so he now only has 3 a nylabone, an extreme kong and his latest one an indestructable ball (suppose to be anyway i'm not sure how long i give it lol)

he loves the ball he can spend ages playing soccer with it but he will only play on the tiles where it makes lots of noise i try to get him to play on the carpet but he won't

hes rather handy lol with his paws at the groomers they can't but him in the drying cupboard thing coz he escapes some times he does live up to his name but rarely

Blue really loves to play. Sometimes while I'm working (I work at home) he'll get bored and start making that little noise that sounds like Tim Allen on Home Improvement... that Ar Ar Ar sound. Someone on here described it as the wookie sound, or like a chicken bocking. He has several different tones and inflections. It's almost like his own special language. He rarely barks. Anyway, he'll start ar ar aring and I know he wants something. He'll herd me down the steps and to the back door. Once we're in the back yard, he'll let me know what he wants to play. Sometimes it's soccer, sometimes it's catch with the tennis ball, and sometimes it's tug-of-war with his rope toy. He's very adament about what he wants to play. If he chooses the rope toy, there's no distracting him with the soccer ball. Sometimes I'm afraid he's smarter than we are...
I'm amazed blue can get that big soccer ball in his mouth WOW, mine puncture them so the air goes out before they have any chance of carrying them off. 8)

I always have a saying "You never own a sheepie they own you!!"
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA, I've ALWAYS said I thought Tasker was part WOOKIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They ARE smarter than we are  They have all of us bragging about all of them, showing off pictures......
bestdogsx4 - Where do you find those cute rain slickers for pooches? Blue needs one! And do they come with matching galoshes? LOL
I can't remember where we got those, only that they were embarrassed to be seen in them :D We do have boots for them also, never worn, called MuttLuks, and of course they also have fleece coats, also never worn. By the time you put all that stuff on 4 dogs they've peed on the floor and have no need to go out anymore.
