Duds got out of his crate today (through a 5" opening), and left lots of "presents" all over my room, including multiple piles of diarrhea. I got it out of the area rug, and cleaned up the solid parts from the hardwood floor, but now there are little marks where the piles had been. Any ideas on how to get these marks out? I washed the floor with Murphy's Oil Soap, as it was the only thing in the house for cleaning the wood parts. In spite of trashing my room, the only things he totally destroyed were a curtain rod (curtains were wrinkled, but untouched otherwise), the fitted sheet that was on my bed, and the super-fluffy mattress pad. (fluff ALL over) sigh... ~Katie. |

Hmmmm stains out of hardwood... I'm not too hopeful, but you could ask TheGuru at http://forum.repair-place.com !! |
I find plain old rubbing alcohol works well for getting stains out of most things. It may damage the wood though. (in fact it probably will, but do you want a dark stain or a light stain?) |
Is the floor real hardwood? You could lightly sand it if its real hardwood and try to match the stain. "Then I would seal it ( entire floor) with polyurethane. That way nothing should be able to soak in and stain it.Plain white vinegar works well to disinfect stuff. I don't know if it would work for the stain.Try taking an old toothbrush and lightly scrubbing it. |
Don't know much about the wood floors, but a paste of baking soda and water takes urine out of sheets and mattresses. Equal parts white vinegar and water takes blood out of carpets. What will it do to wood? I haven't the slightest idea. Toothpaste is suppose to remove water stains from furniture. |
There is a cleaning product sold at Lowes and Home depot, where they sell the wood varnish that will lightly sand and clean the stain without having to completely refinish the floors or reapply the polyurethene top coat. |
Thanks for all the ideas! I wanted to post that I looked at the floor today and the marks seem to be gone. I wound up washing the floor again the next day with the murphy's oil soap. Then life got in the way, and I didn't pay attention to it for awhile. I rent a room in a house, so refinishing the floor myself is not an option. When I moved in, I advised my landlady that it needed to be refinished, and she kinda gave me the brush off. (she's the type that only repairs/maintains in an emergency ) Let's hope he stays in the crate! I put extra clips on the door, and he's been better about it in general as it is... ~Katie. |
Just for future reference in case anyone ever accesses this page:
Do NOT coat the entire floor with polyurethane if the floor was finished a long time ago. They used to finish floors with water-based finishes, and you CANNOT mix water-based finishes with polyurethane. You'll end up having to refinish the entire floor! |
