Enough is enough.

Well, it's bad enough that I've been at work all week, busting my hump at year-end, but is it fair that today I get to listen to the guy across the hall snore?

I don't think so.

Maybe I should post his direct number here so you guys can call him occasionally . . .

313-???-???? I'll be happy to call him
Once upon a time there were two dogs living in four houses eight blocks apart. There were also two turtles living with zero space to roam. Four days pass before one of them decided to hike nine miles down to see his three friends who were seven years old.

Not sure what the story was about but I am so relieved that this post is not about Bentley's antics! (or is it?) Looking forward to an update on his progress with the trainer. . .
HeeHeeHee...I'm dialing now, Jil!!

LOL...woke him up for a minute at least!!
The story is all in the numbers . . . . and my evil twisted mind. Oh wait - he's awake and moving around! For now, anyway. Yesterday he was snoring in the afternoon.

Boo is doing GREAT these days! I actually look forward to going home lately! Jim's coming over tonight for a follow up visit and he says he's going to have homework for us, which makes me curious. What kind of homework?

Anyhoo, this morning he and Kayli were waiting outside the bathroom and their noses were maybe a foot apart. Kayli's been spending a lot more time with us in the living room, some of it on the couch!

Naturally, Bentley hasn't really jumped on me or bitten since we started this training, so that aspect has only been addressed one time.

I've probably only used the collar 8-10 times in the past couple weeks. He seems to learn quickly and the nastiness has pretty much disappeared, so now I'm able to work with him as opposed to him working against me, if that makes sense.
Tammy, he's up, but I didn't hear the phone ring.

Of course, I'm over here giggling like an idiot now, so I'm probably keeping him up.
Darn! Well....I woke somebody up! I'm PMing you the number I called to see if decifered it correctly. :?
Maybe he's got the volume turned way down. Now that I think about it, I never hear it ring.

It's awfully quiet in there again.

Good grief. I'm not going to get anything done today, I can tell already. That's probably a good thing.
I wonder how many times I can call and say "sorry - wrong number. Please excuse the ring" before he gets suspicious??
Tammy you are so smart!!! You must've read alot of Encyclopedia Brown when you were young(er). The two of you are a dangerous pair!
LOL! Valerie! I did! I loved Encyclopedia Brown!! LOL
Valerie, I LOVED Encyclopedia Brown when I was a kid! I'd forgotten all about him. I wonder if he's at the library.

(Do you put a question mark at the end of a sentence where the verb is "wonder"? I wonder.)

Tammy, you could probably call lotsa times, but I'll have to stop laughing. I wonder if he'd eventually talk to me about the ditzy broad who keeps calling the wrong number, LOL! 8)

That's fantastic!! I'm so glad! Is your collar the kind with a remote? I know you talked about it in prior posts, but I forget. . . I have a trainer for Maggie and Chumley and he only ever gives us homework. He talks to me about the dogs and their behavior but he never teaches them. He just tells me what I should be doing. It is funny. I have a hard time remembering to do the exercises.
He might, Jil! I'm gonna call again....just for grins! You're making me giggle too!

I've gotten no work done today either! 8O
Re Encyclopedia Brown, I loved them too but I apparently did not learn as much as the two of you! How funny. I've seen them in libraries and on Amazon.

Re: "wonder" here's what bartleby.com says:
"wonder" as in "I wonder why she’s late," produces a statement, not a question, and therefore is written to end with a period, not a question mark. But compare I wondered, “Why is she late?” See PUNCTUATION. 1. See http://www.bartleby.com/68/59/6559.html
Tammy, work is HIGHLY overrated!!

Valerie - yes, it has a remote control about the size of a cell phone and the whole thing is very tricky and nerve wracking! The trick is to use it while he's still thinking about doing something stupid (or during, but never afterwards) and then to get to the button and get it pushed - but only briefly. Oh and not to let Boo see you do it and then to act as if nothing happened and then not to coddle him afterwards. I've spent the last two weeks on pins and needles wanting to push the button then wondering if I should have pushed the button or missing the opportunity to push the button.

Most times now, by the time my finger gets to the button (I'm not so prepared these days, I don't walk around with the remote in my hand ready to go) Kayli has already corrected Bentley.

How are Chum & Mag doing these days?

But then isn't the question mark addressing the "why" and not the "wondered"? It seems that "wonder" does not require a question mark and I think I'm okay with that.

You two may not be getting any work done, but you sure got my day off to a fun start!
Being a professional proofreader (and having almost my entire company out on vacation these past 2 weeks, leaving me nothing to do...), I checked on the 'wonder' question and in the sense that you used it, it does not require a question mark. It is merely a statement expressing curiosity...I wonder if he is at the library. Or, I wonder why they left so quickly. BUT, I wondered, 'why is she staring at me?'

So I've been in a very similar situation with Maggie. I am using a remote citronella collar to teach her the stop command. I have to put it on her and then not use it for 15-20 minutes (so she forgets it is on) and then when she is in the middle of doing something wrong, first give her a spoken command ("stop") and then, if she doesn't stop, say "stop" and give her a spritz without her seeing the remote. It is very hard to get the timing right. And I am supposed to start with neutral actitivies that I want her to stop (such as chewing on a paper towel) and gradually escalate to things like chasing the cat or "cleaning" the litterbox. I've only managed to spritz her twice. On the positive side, after the two spritzes, she has actually obeyed the stop command on 3 other occassions without the need for a followup spritz. Once was for going for a paper towel, next for running towards the litterbox and last night, she stopped in mid-chase when she was going for the cat. I was so proud! I am supposed to take it outside and use the command for naughty activities on the walk. She is such a spaz on the leash that I don't think she's ready.

Re Maggie and Chummie, they are a really good combo. Chummie has taught Maggie to be friendly and greet people and get petted and now Chummie is learning from Maggie to to greet dogs in a friendly way. Before, Chum seemed oblivious to dogs.

At the dogpark, Maggie is emerging as a natural leader. She is the dog that everyone wants to play with and she tailors her style of play to whatever dog she is with. It warms my heart to see how tender and sweet she is to puppies. She slows down her chase and gives very gentle mouthing. She can wrestle with the pros and she never shows her teeth or growls. And she is superfast when there's someone to really give her a run. Today, even one of the most snarly yappy dogs was gazing adoringly at Maggie after a good game of chase and then the snarly dog layed on the ground and rolled around with her belly up at Maggie's feet. She didn't want to leave. It was so cute.

At home, I think Maggie is pretty clearly taking the alpha role. I've seen a few spats where Maggie ends up on top. And I've seen Chum wait to enter a room and even give up a bone to Maggie. I'm a little sad for Chummie but I think it is the natural course of things.

It is going really well and I am so happy with both of them.
Darn, he left, no more phone calls. :?

Valerie, we're in the same boat and it's tough! More on that later, I want to get some stuff done so I can go home. Boss Man keeps coming in asking my why I'm still here, LOL!
So I can stop calling now? LOL

Hurry & get finished Jil! Go home and get started on the weekend!
:D :D
Urg!! I just read this post! Too late I can't offer to call that fellow and make a prank call...drat..too bad as I haven't made one of those calls since I was a kid and was looking forward to it.

Hey great to hear it's going much better these days with Bentley boy and of course dear sweet ever patient Kayli!! I'm glad to hear that things are settling down a bit for both you and her.

Although I'm off for school holidays I'm petsitting and teaching in the evenings so not much of a break for me either. Still, I get to spend extra time in here during the day so can't complain. Just saw a funny commercial on stupidvideos.com it showed a fellow crumbling a cracker and placing it on his keyboard. Next clip showed the boss hearing the clicking of computer keys outside the closed door with a satisfied look on his face as the employee sounded busy. Next clip showed an open window and pigeons clicking away at the keyboard in order to get the crumbs. Employee is no where in sight. Hmmm it's a thought isn't it?

Now think good thoughts Jil...good thoughts....

Marianne and the boys
