A Politically correct Holiday season Greeting -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit my best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low stress, non-addictive, gender neutral celebration of the winter solstice holiday, practiced within the most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion or secular practices of your choice, with respect for the religious/secular persuasions and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all. And… A fiscally successful, personally fulfilling, and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures, and without regard to the race, creed, color, age, physical ability, religious faith, choice of computer platform, or sexual orientation of the wisher. Disclaimer: By accepting this greeting, you are accepting these terms. This greeting is subject to clarification or withdrawal. It is freely transferable with no alteration to the original greeting. It implies no promise by the wisher to actually implement any of the wishes for her/himself or others, and is void where prohibited by law, and is revocable at the sole discretion of the wisher. This wish is warranted to perform as expected within the usual application of good tidings for a period of one year, or until the issuance of a subsequent holiday greeting, whichever comes first, and warranty is limited to replacement of this wish or issuance of a new wish at the sole discretion of the wisher who assumes no responsibility for any unintended emotional stress these greetings may bring to those not caught up in the holiday spirit. |

Ha ha. So P.C.
Before long they will all be just the "Retail Holiday of the Month". |
lol...what has this world come to??? |
Well, actually the joke is on all those people who refuse to say MERRY CHRISTMAS in lieu of the more generic Happy Holiday. The root of the word Holiday means HOLY DAY so whether they like it or not they are bringing God into it!!!! Although Happy Holiday does give you the option of WHAT HOLY DAY you want to celebrate........... It all just makes my head hurt. |
Bah Humbug!
Wouldn't even mentioning a winter solstice celebration harken back to pagan beliefs? I am not PC and growing less tolerant of those who are, Bah Humbug |
my favorite is the "happy holidays" signs on every walmart which, if you happen to make it inside is playing (round the clock mind you) music about santa, rudolf, frosty, and others, all (last i checked) symbols of christmas (allbeit the secular version) thereby negating the message of "happy holidayS" |
I must admit I do appreciate people who say "Happy Holidays". It encompasses all the holidays in December and New Years in January. Being brought up Jewish, it is difficult sometimes when people assume you are of a Christian denomination. Now my husband is Catholic, so this doesn't both me as much as it does others of non-Christian faiths or atheists. |

i avoid the confusion entirely and wish everyone a happy new year. regardless of religious denomination, everyone must admit that the calendar changes in january, and you get a new one to litter with vet appointments and birthdays, it's really a beautiful thing. and to cover my butt, i wish my jewish friends a happy new year in september too (when Yom Kippur is celebrated) as that marks the change of the lunar calendar followed by the Jewish religion. |
And I think the retailers are taking the long term view of which "holidays" they're including - did anyone else notice Valentine's Day merchandise out before Christmas Day? Our local Walgreens had Valentine's candy up as soon as the shelf space cleared in the seasonal aisle (pre Christmas), and Target had Valentine's products on the end caps on the 26th. |

And the best one is Old Navy. Sarah went to exchange a sweater today (December 29th) and had to get a gift card (no cash refunds) because they took EVERY sweater out of the store! She said all they had for sale were tank tops and t-shirts!!!

A plain ol' Have a Great Day! works for everyone
I don't think it matters what you say..... If I happen to say Merry xmas to someone who is jewish, they say, happy hannukah back we laugh and go on with our day. No big deal.... A friend of mine is a minister of a prebysterian church, she is married to a jewish man who is a teacher in a catholic church... I don't think THEY can keep any of it straight. The whole point is to let others know you are thinking of them, and wish them the best. |
Yep best greeting ever stacey is "Have a great day" you can't go wrong with that
We use here in Oz, Seasons Greetings, so that covers all. |

Let me get this stright - you can't buy a sweater in PA in December? What in the world do they expect people to do - freeze until May? |
We are the opposite, Fall and Winter stuff coming into the shops, a great deal of good that is at the moment as we are experiencing a heat wave today of 42 celcius, Yesterday reached 39c, with the hottest weather still to come in January and February.
I also imagine it wont be long till Easter stuff starts appearing soon in the shops in the next month or so, seems to be just as christmas is over, off the shelves with all that stuff onto, valentines stuff right away then by end of january all the easter stuff They seem to get that stuff out so early now to tempt you to buy buy buy!!!! |
