Yesterday there was a big scrub fire on the outskirts of Melbourne, burnt about 140 hectares of bush. Took 115 firefighters, 23 fires trucks three aircraft and Elvis the skycrane from canada to bring it under control. Considering he has only been in Melbourne for 2 weeks, he is already working hard. No properties were lost in this fire. Only the start of our fire season with the hottest temperatures still to come in the new year. We love elvis being here for the summer. |

Thank you... Thank you very much.... |
So glad that you have it!!! |
I'll bet the people in Texas and Oklahoma would love to have a visit from Elvis right about now... terrible fires going on there. |
Huh, small world, sorta. My uncle is the head engineer who produced some of the fire retardant chemicals they use to put out those brush fires! How close are the fires to where you live? Do they ever come close to the majopr cities???

I'm really glad to hear that Elvis is being of some help for you guys. I can understand why they let him go for two reasons. "He" would have been sitting here idle . The West Coast where they have had numerous brush fires in the summers the past few years have been hit with torrential downpours which resemble monsoons. The second more important reason is sounds like you guys could use it. I hope the Brush Fires will be under control soon over there. Hugs to all the Aussies.

Yes Karen they do come close to the major cities. We are on the outskirts and always have a bush fire plan for summer. Most Aussies do as we have a very flamable bush enviroment. Lived through Ash Wednesday bushfires where just about the whole of the state of Victoria was on fire back in 1982, terrifying, lots of lives lost, the fire not near our place, but we were surrounded in black smoke and ash falling everywhere around the house.
Up where we have our holiday farm we have fire sirens that go off if any fires around. You don't muck around when you hear those things, you just grab what you can and go to the fire evacuation and saftey area in the township as up there in the mountains, very heavy forest and bush & only little dirt roads to get out. |
