Viva Las Vegas

As part of our Christmas celebration, we drove up to Las Vegas to visit with some friends. Since we were only going on a 1 night trip we decided that it was time for Bailey to become a travel dog. So we packed his crate in the truck, and headed off to Vegas, baby! On a quiet day Vegas is a 5 hour drive from home. On the way up we crossed over the Hoover Dam, which was very cool. We stopped to look at the Dam and Bailey was very popular. In fact, some tourists asked if they could have their picture taken with him! So now Bailey will be famous in Japan.

We stayed at the Marriott Residence Inn, very close to the Strip. It had a kitchen area in the room with a refrigerator and microwave, and a wood floor which made it easy to clean up around the dog bowls. We had plenty of room for Bailey's crate. And they had a grassy area outside for "doggy business" equipped with pooper scooper bags and a trash can. We had to keep our dog on leash but could take him anywhere in the hotel, including the free breakfast and the pool deck.

We felt bad about Bailey being cooped up in the car for so long, so I did a little research on the internet before we left and found the Sunset Park Dog Run, which is just south of the airport and only a few miles from the hotel. It was a nice big dog park with picnic tables and lots of new playmates for Bailey. He found a fun Golden Retrieiver and just tired himself out. We also met a new sheepie friend named Sadie - a little tiny sheepie! Very cute. So after Bailey had all that fun, I didn't feel so bad about leaving him in his crate in the hotel while we went out with our friends.

We were very proud of Bailey - he was a very good boy on our trip and took it all in stride. He even got used to the elevator - although he thought it was very odd that we kept shutting ourselves up in such a little room
8O We'll definitely be taking him on more adventures!

Hey,

Sounds like you had a GREAT trip!
Thanks for the sotry and for the sharing of some ideas!

Was the dog run free or did you have to pay to use it?
Awesome! Now I want to take the dogs the next time we go to Vegas!
I can't wait to go back to Vegas and taking the dogs with would make it so much easier than finding them a babysitter.

Looks like all we'd have to do is follow exactly what you did. Thanks for becoming our new Travel Agent!!!!

I bet Bailey will be HUGE in Japan!
Very nice, Sue!! It sounds like you had a great trip and Bailey was a perfect gentleman!
Sounds like a good time was had by all, two-legged and four-legged! :D Now if only Vegas wasn't the better part of a week's drive away from PA . . .
Chris
Good Boy Bailey! Sue, that is so nice to know that you have a good traveler!

Chris, I've driven from Maine to San Diego in 3 days, so you could make it to Vegas in less than a week! (You might be dead when you get there...)

The dog run was free, and there were other free dog runs in Vegas too. The other thing I wanted to do but just didn't have time was visit Red Rock Canyon conservation area, which is about 30 minutes from the Strip. They have hiking trails ranging from easy to difficult and leashed dogs are allowed. Charge for that is $5 per car and $5 per dog. Maybe we'll stay longer the next time!

lol

Sounds like so much fun! Too bad I don't think Annie would be allowed to sit in an airplane seat! Maybe I could put a babushka (handkerchief) on her head and pretend she's a really old lady!

Steph, you have to understand how much I HATE car rides! My mantra generally is - if it's longer than a 4 hour drive, it's a flight!!

Chris
Cool Sue....Bailey is now a traveler....I have to give him a treat when i see him on new years for being so good!!
Great, now I can take the beast to Vegas. HAHAHA.. Do you think they'd let her into the casino. SHe could be my seeing eye dog.
