Frezno, Hello, welcome!!! First off please join the forum, lots of good info here and many to help you. Mery Christmas to you.

I can't help with what your asking. but I am sure many will help. please come back soon and congratts on the new baby girl.
Welcome :D

Most are around 9 months onwards when they are due for their first heat, sometimes younger. It lasts for 21 days and usually happens every 6-7 months from then on, and best to keep them well apart then. Having a boy and girl does create problems during this time and I am sure some can tell you of there experiences having both an entire girl and boy at this time, I have only females as mine are entire and to have a dog in the house as well if they are in heat is a lot of hard work and stresses the boys out big time.

In Australia with registered purebreed dogs, no breeder is allowed to mate girls under the age of 18 months for a litter.
Welcome to the forum! You'll enjoy it here
Welcome :)
I would familiarize yourself with the breed, health issues, health testing that needs to be done before breeding can be considered, pedigree research etc.
I would suggest joining a national breed club as well.
It is recommended to wait until 18-24 months in most breeds and most countries, because many health issues cannot be ruled out before then. They need to finish growing themselves before they have to put energy into growing babies.
Welcome

There is a lot to consider before you think of breeding. First you have to get the new little one and let her grow up. I wouldn't breed her before she was 2 years old, then I would do some health checks and check out the pedigrees. Sometimes it is easier to just enjoy your dog and then get another one later on.
There is a lot to learn and this list is a good place to start. Enjoy the posts there is something to learn from each one.

Yeah... pre-breeding testing especially for any health issues. Speaking from the perspective of having adopted a "rescue" sheepie with hip dysplasia and another born blind with a hare lip/cleft palate (the money I paid for them went to rescues), be sure to rule out any hereditary conditions before breeding. Once the puppies are in existance, it's too late to go back. It's so sad when it's discovered there are health problems that might have been prevented had testing been done. Then there are also the financial reprocussions and responsibilities.
Yes, Welcome to the list!! We love new sheepie people.

Please read up on breeding before. A bad breeding contaminate the gene pool for generations. We love sheepdogs and worry when we hear of a puppy with genetic problems. How many more?? Will they be bred?

In the mean time, enjoy your dogs, share your stories, and when the time comes to consider breeding, please, please do your homework.
Congratulations on your new puppy! Since you are already "owned" by an OES you know a lot of what to expect.

Please, PLEASE do not consider breeding unless you are absolutely sure it's the right thing to do. I recommend you check out the Old English Sheepdog Club of America site http://www.oldenglishsheepdogclubofamerica.org/ and check out the Code of Ethics in the Club Information section and Breed Pamphlet in the Breed Information section. Gather as much information as you can before making such a big decision as breeding your OES. Even the most experienced breeders with the best pedigrees have problems such as hip dysplasia, deafness, cataracts, etc. Don't let your desire for a cute litter of puppies cloud the reality of what is best for the breed.

If, after a lot of research, you still decide to breed, that's up to you. At least you'll be armed with a lot of knowledge. This forum is an excellent source of information as there are breeders here as well as many folks who have rescued dogs who were "damaged" as a result of bad breeding. It can be heartbreaking, as I'm sure you will hear.

You have plenty of time to become well informed. I wish you the best of luck.
I'd like to thank you all for your replies and concerns. My baby girl was born on the 28th. I will definatly take your advice and research, research!! thanks again! Mandie, Freazno, and Fifi
