Take them to the vet. If they are both doing it, then apparently there's something in the food, water, or house that is bad for them. |
Clear phlem would be something you could try to treat at home. Yellow phlem is a sign of stomach bile in the saliva.
You haven't mentioned if they are eating or drinking directly before they vomit or gag. Yes, they can get hairballs, but they just gag and get compacted dry BM's when this is the problem. And you see hair in their BM's. The yellow color could also be a sign of infection, check their temp. A vet really needs to ask you a lot of questions to figure this out. I wouldn't give them pepto bismal, although I have heard others do so. It could cause them more pain if they are already constipated. Quit medicating them and check a few things out. They could have something like acid reflux. Keep track of what they are eating drinking and their BM's and make an appointment with a vet. It could be they are eating yellow flowers and barfing them up. It is hard to diagnose over the internet. You may want to collect a 'sample" in a bag and take it with you to the vet's. Unless you figure out it was the kids play dough or something. Good luck! |
Hello,
My 2 sheepies do the gagging thing and spit up thing sometimes. The spit up is foamy and it always has a lot of hair in it. I have always assumed it was a hairball. We have had another instance when they were gagging AND coughing, they had a low grade fever and were very tired. We took them to the vet and it turned out to be the bordatella virus (aka kennel cough). Our vet knows our sheepies very well and now when they are sick he only makes us bring one in and will give us medicine for both of them. That helps us out a lot when money is a factor. I have never heard of giving a dog pepto yet, ours get diarrea easily. We give them an immodium AD and it always helps. (Our vet also told us this.) Agingright, the playdoh has happened with Jack already. I'm sure you can use your imagination on how colorful BM's can be! |
Hi,
Try a tab. of plain yogurt twice a week. It can't hurt them. My Bam-Bam has a very sensitive stomach and I have found this simple remedy keeps his digestive system in order. Good Luck! |
Thanks guys/gals for all your replies ! I have recently bought Science Diet Dogfood for Sensitive Stomachs. This is working well so far.
call me ... "gone to the dogs" ... Griffon and Patch's mom |
Abbi loved that food, but she started gaining weight. We switched to something else. But I still use the Sensitive Stomach blend when her BM's get too runny. That hasn't happenned since she stopped taking all the medicine.
I hope you continue to have luck with that. Maybe Lil Walty should try it? |
Hi guys... wanted to report in about this gagging thing. Took my 4 yo female to Vet last week for her yearly chek-up. I spoke with Vet about this and he said not -to-worry. Said that it's usually related to hairball. Suggested that we give our doggies some vaseline a couple times /week. Just a glob on our hand for them to lick. He further stated that throwing -up is common in dogs and not a problem unless it goes on & on.
So Vaseline is now our new food group ! Patch & Griffon's Mom HAVE YOU HUGGED YOUR SHEEPIE TODAY |
