In my job I frequently have to counsel patients who are quitting smoking and somehow it's sooooo much easier to talk to someone I don't love about it. Doesn't he know that every cigarette he smokes is less time he's going to spend with Tasker Ty AND ME He said the acupuncturist took about an hour, put nine needles in and then put three little sticky things in his ear with little metal balls in them. If he wants a cigarette he's supposed to press the metal balls in his ear to relieve the craving................ anybody ever heard of THAT?????? I told him all I want for Christmas is for him to quit!!! |

Thank you for being supportive of Doug. Non-smokers cannot understand what it is like to quit smoking. There are days when every waking moment is consumed with the thought of cigarettes and smoking. I finally realized that when I quit, I lost a constant companion of 29 years. Almost every action of my life was accompanied or governed by smoking. There is the fear "what will I do if I cannot smoke?" It is a true psychological anguish. And believe me, there isn't a smoker who doesn't understand the health risks. Denial becomes a way of life.
That said, I had laser therapy for smoking cessation. The laser was used to stimulate acupuncture points that release endorphins. The endorphins override the physical unpleasantness of cigarette withdrawal. Basically, I had acupuncture using the laser. And it is working for me. I have had absolutely no physical cravings or withdrawal symptoms. But the mental part is the hardest. It gets easier every day. Thanks again for being supportive of your hubby. And don't rag on him if he caves. Quitting smoking is a process and sometimes a person has to do it hundreds of times. |
Never heard of the metal ball in the ear part...but at least if it doesnt work, he'll look all dressed up for Christmas in his holiday earrings....lol....honestly though I wish him all the luck and best wishes! |

hahahahahaha!! It REALLY is the only thing I want fro Christmas |
Yay for Doug!
I wish him the best of luck. They do say practice makes perfect and that most smokers do have to quit several times before quitting for good. |
It is very hard to understand someone else's difficulty quitting, even for
someone who has quit. Ask yourself this though. Could you give up something you love, like chocolate or all sugar, for example, completely and forever? If you think of it in terms that could apply to you, it is easier to understand. The ear part I have heard of. Years ago they were doing the same for people who were dieting. Every time you got hungry you were supposed to wiggly the staple in your ear slightly. For what its worth, that did work to some degree. I hope it helps him! Shellie |
Hmmmm, I'd get my ear stapled if it would keep chocolate out of my mouth!!!! |
Good luck Doug!!!!! It is hard to quit but so worth it. And it's nice to have Ginny's support |
