I've tried giving him distracting toys, like a rawhide or a kong filled with peanut butter -- but I don't want to do that all the time. I've put him next to me on the couch with a chew toy. I've pet/snuggled with him so he'll be next to me in a nice way. But nothing seems to help. He used to be pretty awful in the kitchen, too -- whining and barking when people were eating -- but he's getting better. Now he'll just lay down while we're eating. But the family room continues to be a problem. It's where his kennel is, so maybe he considers it HIS territory -- and all who enter must play with his majesty. Little brat! |

Dancer went through a phase like that at about 6 months too. I tried ignoring, I tried giving more attention, I tried more exercise etc.... what worked in the end was crating her for brief periods when I was home so that she learned she didn't always have to be right on top of me. |
When mine did that I would sometimes tell them to lay down in a stern voice. Once down, I'd pet them with my feet a couple times and then leave my legs dangling over them. When they started to get up I'd repeat the process. No toys. Just me. They felt like they had my undivided attention then. But, when "they" wanted up I wouldn't let them get up for awhile so it was kind of like "NO! You wanted in my face, NOW you're stuck with me! How's it feel to want!" I'd then let them up, love on them and they were satisfied, welllllllllll, most of the time. |
I wish I had some great advice for you...but I now have a huge 1 year old that thinks he's a Billy Goat!
MMMMMM and sometimes uses me as a trampoline! The Gooch...bad to the bone! |
