One more Question about tommorow

The puppy is 8 months old and has not been crated. Would it be better not to put him in a crate for the ride home and just put him in the back seat. I'm just not sure how he's going to react to the crate at this point.

I would avoid the crate for the ride home. Do you have anyone going with you who can hold him or drive while you hold him? 8 months is pretty big to have free in the car if you don't know how he will behave. You could get a harness, but they are pricey. In a pinch, you can tie a knot in the leash and have the knot outside the car door so that he can't move around too much.

its so exciting!! :D
Take someone with you to drive back that way you can then cuddle the little munchin all the way home
Can you find out from whoever has him now if he's had any car experience? I'd still say skip the crate but at least you might know if he's a puker or a peer before it happens-- good things to know!
My Daughter was supposed to come with me, but she got tied up at school today with some of her students and isn't going to be able to make it until late tommorow--so I'm on my own. I think I'm gonna try the leash trick and take the fluffy stuff I bought him for his crate. At least I can throw that in the washer--hope his aim is good :)

I don't know if he's been in a car much or not. I don't know as much about him as the other Dog I was going to adopt. Hannah's owner never called me back, and I was never able to reach her again. I figured she decided to adopt her to someone that was closer by.

This puppy is only a couple hours away from me. He's been living in a barn, and one of his brother has already been killed herding cars :(

I can't wait to get him home inside and safe! Not sure about the name yet, I will probably go with Ash's choice of Brocolli, but I want to get to know him a little first. I used to joke with friends that if I ever got into a committed relationship again it would be to someone named Sam--so maybe that's what I'll name him

After reading this, I don't think it matters much how you get him home, just so long as you do. Poor baby :(
I'm so glad you are saving him from what sounds like a horrible situation for an oes.
I think Sam is a great name! This is so exciting. I hope it all goes well. Maybe bring towels in case it doesn't? And don't forget your camera!
Hi again deograine,
Just a handy hint, brie use to get car sick when she was a youngster and I found it easier just in case she had a sicke to layer half a dozen old towels under her on the back seat, so that way if she had a mishap it was only a matter of rolling up the top towel and putting it into a plastic bag then onto the next one

By the way sam is a nice name too, have to agree with you wait and see what the personalty is like then decide the name. My brie was originally charlotte, but when we got her home we changed it as to me it did not suit her personalty. Still love brocolli also
Congratulations, and I LOVE the name Sam.
Can't wait to hear how the drive went! Sam is an adorable name.
He's home! I uploaded some pictures of him. Which I'll post as soon as they get approved. They are not the best because I took them with the camera phone. But I wanted to share. He is such a good dog. He just sat in the back seat and looked out the window. When he had to go potty, he barked to let me know. He went into his crate with no prompting from me and stayed there for a while. Right now he's asleep on my bedroom floor. He is a little skittish around Aisling, but he's getting used to her sudden movements and loud squeels. He's perfect! He's has a few mats on his chest and a few under his arms but overall he's in good shape and he had a clean bill of health from the vet. The only thing is he seems to prefer to be outside. He looks out the window and whines a lot. We went for a walk around the neighborhood this afternoon and he met some of the neighbors who came out greet him. He was basking in all the attention he was getting :D
He needs a good three days to get used to his new surroundings and new owners. He may just be whining for his former owners... no telling. Until the 3 days is up, you really have little idea what kind of dog he is, so be careful.

After the first 3 days, it may still take a while for his full personality to emerge.

Have FUN!

Good point Ron. It's about 8 months since Rebecca has been here and we're still finding out new things about her.

I'll post better ones as soon as I get them.
aww what a sweet face, How was your first night??
Congrats! He looks like a happy boy :)
The first night went really well. He woke up early and I took him out. Then after breakfast we went outside for a long walk. He romped in the leaves with Ais and now I have to get all the leaves out of his fur--but he enjoyed himself so much! He follows me wherever I go. He won't eat though, unless I'm standing right there with him. Is that normal?
WOW!!! he looks adorable! Both of mine were nervous about eating the first week. I separate mine so they can both eat without worry. Can't wait to hear more about your adventures!
He looks so adorable! How was the car ride?
Yay! Welcome Sam Broccoli! Don't worry about his eating - he will eat when he's hungry and less nervous. We went away this past weekend and left our 11 month old Bailey at his dog sitter's house for the first time. We all got home last night and this morning - Bailey won't eat! I think he's just unsettled from the transition. And Sam's been through a much bigger transition than Bailey!
He does look happy! I'm glad things are going well so far. It does take time for them to transistion. After a week or so, you'll start to see more of his "real" personality. Sounds like he's a charmer, though. So glad you have him home! :D
How is he doing now deograine? We need an update! :)
He is wonderful! He may have gotten a little upset when I left yesterday for work. He had his first accident, right after I left the house--right outside my bedroom door. But Devon said he was playful and happy for the rest of the day, atleast until I called her on the phone to check up on him and he heard my voice. Then he seemed to get a little upset. He did spend some time in the crate in the evening without throwing a fit. He has become much more playful.

He's going to get a checkup and to get groomed today. And hopefully I'll have better pictures of him to share. I'm amazed at how quickly he's adjusting.
Good news! :)
Can't wait to see more pics!
