Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul : Stories of Canine Companionship, Comedy and Courage (Paperback), by Jack Canfield, Mark Victor Hansen, Marty Becker D.V.M., Carol Kline, Amy D. Shojai I was reading the first few entries this week to Annie (don't laugh ) and I had to put it down as tears were streaming down my face. One of the entries was so sad and touching at the same time. I don't know if I'll be able to make it through this book. I've never read a Chicken Soup for the Soul book before. Are you supposed to just sit down and read it like any other book or should just one entry be read a day? Looking for your suggestions and discussion on the book. |

I read that book...in the bathtub...with a towel handy to dry my face. Every story made me cry I just read until it got too overwhelming, took about a week to get through the whole book. |
I like the idea of a book club! |
Hi Annie's mom
My vet used to lend this book out to his clients and I read it twice before then found it again at a second hand shop. I read a couple stories, then dry my tears...can only handle reading a few a day. I am such a huge fan of these books and ironically just today looked for some at the second hand shop. Yup I'm a glutton for punishment...these are wonderful books!! Marianne and the boys They are all heart warming but which story in particular were you referring to? |

The one in which the husband and wife took 2 male Maltese from a puppy mill. They were breeding dogs who were always kept in a cage but with one another. One was really shy and didn't want to come out of the crate in his new home. They had the dogs for months and the wife sat down near the crate and cried to him and said that she loved him. The pup finally crept out of the cage and gave her some kisses on her hand. Story totally choked me up and I have tear marks on the pages now. I read a few more last night and didn't cry at them. Maybe I"m getting stronger! |
Marianne,
The one I bawled through is right near the front called "Now and Always" in the On Love section. It's on page 7 of my copy. |
I don't have the book handy at the moment but my favorite story was of the old man whom knew his wife would be lonely and made sure her gift was delivered on Christmas Day. Total tear jerker!
<<sniffs...wipes tears Marianne and the boys |

OH...this sounds great! I love books!!! and a good cry is great for you!!! |
I don't have this one - YET - but I have bought similar dog/animal story books for my Mom. She loves them, too.
In fact, when I was very little, she used to read to me from a book that Readers Digest had published full of animal stories. Every day when I had to take a nap, I first got to hear an animal story. No wonder I love them! |
