Crate Leash Bowls for food and water Dog Food Kong Toys Bitter Apple Spray Any and all suggestions welcome! |

You'll probably want a collar & tags...or maybe a harness if you don't want to use a traditional collar.
Forgive me, but I've forgotten...how old is she? |
Something comfy for inside the crate? Poop bag dispensers that attaches to your leash. Treats! Brush. Wipes (I like baby wipes) just in case of accidents or to keep him smelling fresh. |

Starting grooming right away doesn't hurt. A straight pin brush (not the pins with the balls on the ends) is a lifesaver, a good metal comb to pick through mats and sometimes I use a slicker to finish up. I use a small matt breaker when I need it but I know many people do not care for those. I like having a conditioning spray around because it makes brushing a lot easier this time of year with all the static!
Clyde is 15 months old and I still usually find something he "needs" once a week. My other older dog has never gotten so much stuff since with two you feel obligated to get stuff for both! |
It's important to remember to get a bag of whatever food the pup is already on so that you aren't stressing the pups system by switching food at the same time as leaving mom and littermates etc. If you switch it should be done slowly and carefully so as not to stress the pups digestive system.
Here is a link to another helpful list of things you'll need. http://forum.oes.org/viewtopic.php?t=2822 |
I love using conditioning spray. Smells so nice and feels so soft. |
Excellent. I've got my list together and I get off work in 5 minuets. I feel like a kid on christmas eve |
awwwwwwwww so glad your happy. Also a pooper scooper for out side will help
We will need pics.LOL |
Sooo exciting, the big day when puppy comes home. Looking forward to a picture of the new kid. Also what did you end up naming him? |
woooh--I spent more money tonight than I did on my Daughter for
Christmas--I hope that doesn't make me a bad human mommy |
He's the same age as my Bosley is. Try to get a hold of some baby gates, because if he is not used to a crate then at least you can keep him out of trouble in a puppy-proof area. You may even want to take him immediately to a groomer if he has not been cleaned up on a regular basis. If he is coming from a rescue his coat may be in rough shape, and smelly etc. What else do you know about his background? |
Not a lot. But he's not coming from a rescue. I think the man had the intention of breeding to make a little extra money--that's an assumption though--I don't know for sure. He told me he had the Mom and Dad, and the puppies. He sold two of them and then his wife became serously ill. Then he gave the mother sheepie to somone who lives down the street. Then one of the puppies was killed by car. (It sounds like they all just sort of run loose wherever he lives.) He does seem to have kept up with the puppies shots and vet checks. Said he was having taking him in yesterday for a final check and would have all that paperwork for me. I'm hoping for the best, and expecting the worst. I've got an appointment with the vet here setup for Tuesday. The owner seems like a nice person--I just think he may have gotten in over his head (another assumption) |

I agree - you'll need to get him used to be groomed because it happens every other day! Make sure you touch him all over - ears, feet, neck, face - because you'll need to examine all of those places on a regular basis and you want to make it as stress-less as possible when it has to happen. |
Yep I've been working on that. He's pretty good so far, but only for small periods of time. He has some matts on his belly and chest, so I've decided to take him to the groomers as well. They gave him a bath before they delivered him to me, but I think I'd just feel better. I was so glad that they kept up to date with vet. I noticed last night that he calms down and sleeps better after the house cools off. I turn the thermostat to 55 when I go to bed, but it takes a couple hours for the house to cool down. After it gets cool he settles right down. I wonder if because he is used to living outside--he gets overly warm in the house? I am so glad my daughter is visiting with me right now--so he doesn't have to be alone right away. He was a little unhappy when I left for work this morning. I didn't make a big deal out of leaving--but I could hear him barking after I walked out the door |
55 degrees....youre a better mommy than me...I keep it at 68 and walk around with a blanket on....but I do understand why you did it...I drive around with the window down, so Panda doesnt pant. |
You'll adjust to each other soon. It will just take a little time. I can't wait to see pictures. |
