I am so sad for your difficult decision.
In addition to many loving people on this site, have you checked with Seattle OES Rescue? Old English Sheepdog Club of Greater Seattle Rescue I'm sure some people will either post here or privately email you... Please keep us posted, either way. Good luck. |
Anybody headed from Seattle to NY???? |
I am sorry you have to give up Mimi. If we lived on the same coast I would love to help out.
If you are unsuccessful in finding a suitable home on your own, rescue is the way to go. I know this probably was an extremely tough decision for you, but if you are unable to care for your pet as you see fit then you are making a very unselfish decision to rehome her. There is someone out there who is waiting for her and will give her the love, care and life you desire for her. I adopted my OES, Fred from the SPCA. He was given up due to allergy problems. I thank God every day for having the opportunity to know him and I wish I was able to contact his former family to let them know that he is happy, healthy and very much loved and to thank them for giving me the chance to know him. Good luck to you. |
I am so sorry that you have to give up Mimi. Have you found a home for her yet? Kaye Second Chance OES Rescue |
Did you find a home for her yet?
Suzi is the Wa. rescue contact her e-mail address is slhansen44@aol.com 253-288-0441 Wa. rescue has a list of people waiting to adopt, they have already checked these people out. Actually I had a woman from Seattle looking to rescue or get something a reputable breeder is willing to place for a small fee. Rescue had sent her. Barbara |
Rosie -- I can only imagine how hard it must be to reach your decision but giving a dog up to find a more suitable environment is a very generous, very loving thing to do. I hope you will consider contacting a Rescue organization. That's where I got my two sheepies and I am so grateful to their former owners for making that choice.
I hope Mimi finds a wonderful home. Best wishes, Valerie |
I second what everyone says and please do get in touch with Suzi as from what I've heard she is extremely helpful and will make sure that Mimi only goes to the best home possible.
Best Wishes to you Marianne and the boys |
Thank you everyone for all or your advice, I have not contacted any rescue yet, I'm in no hurry to give up Mimi, actually I'm doing all I can so I can keep her, but definately if it came down to giving her up, I will contact the recue organization, I just thought I could meet domebody that may be interested on her and start getting to know that person so I can feel a little better when I give her up, but like I said before I am doing first actually all I can to see if I can keep her. My son has developed some sort of allergies and we are not sure what it is exactly , when mimi is not in contact with him he seems to get better, but still I'm not sure if it's only temporary or if he will allways be allergic to dogs, I'm not sure why this is happening to my child, we have had mimi since she was 7 weeks old, and he never had any problems until three months ago she started to shed like crazy, that's when all started, so we told our groomer to shave her, he did, but my son has not gotten better, we'll see what happens, I really want my son to get better and find out if it's mimi or something else that's giving him allergies, mimi and my son love each other so much, my son is 3, so he and mimi use to play all the time, and now he cries so much because he wants toplay with her all the time, this is so hard , well, thank you again, Rosie |
Have you started using a new groomer or has your groomer started using any new products? Definately check into the chemical side of things before you run out of options. It might just be something small that has been introduced to your household through your dog. A new toy, new bed, who knows.
I hope a solution comes to your house that makes everyone happy and healthy! |
You could also have your son tested for allergy to dogs. That way you could be sure before you gave Mimi up. |
I hope you are able to determine that the allergies are due to something other than Mimi. As mentioned above, maybe the groomer uses something on her that is scented or for fleas. Everything used on Annie must be unscented otherwise my allergies start acting up and I can't hug her or be in the room with her for too long.
Or, is there something in your yard that Mimi might be rolling in (flower beds, weeds, grass, dirt...)? Keep us posted. |
Also if she started shedding suddenly the dog may have a medical condition causing her skin to flake more or a fungal infection, any number of things. I would take the dog to the vet as well and have them check thoroughly. |
I currently have two Sheepies and a Golden Retriever.
I am also allergic to pollen, grass, weeds, trees, fungi, mold and dust - among other things. Certain times of the year are bad for me, especially if the dogs have been outside more than usual. This lingers until their next bath. Fortunately, they all love their bath! |
I'll take her if you want to ship her up to Edmonton, Alberta. |
I have a total of 4 children, 3 of which are allergic to dogs. Two of of the three were on Zyrtec for their allergies, actually one of my daughters was a test baby for the under 2's.
The two older ones (8 and 6) have since grown out of the allergy stage, unless one of the puppies licks them, then they get hives. A good cammomile (sp) soap works wonders on that. The youngest (4) just went in to see the Allergist and is allergic to dogs, cats, grass, molds, etc. and the Dr knows that we will not give up the animals, so has again prescribed Zyrtec for these allergies. All of my kids were raised with dogs and cats, but that does not make them immune to allergens, but I really think having animals around has helped them (2 so far!) outgrow this stage. Good luck and please let us know if you do see a doctor. Take care....... |
Please, please, please find a competent Allergist! We had to go through 3 different doctors to find one that was not only competent, but actually interested in getting my children well. The first two had missed some many clues and problems with my children who had been suffering from a multitude of symptoms ranging from the obvious asthma, hives, congestion and sneeezing to the allusive migraines, "fog brain", behavioral issues, etc. Within a 3 month period, our life has drastically changed from challenged and frustrated to calm and even!
If your child didn't have problems intially, the source could well be something new your child has had exposure to... such as foods, chemicals, new schools! (Yeah, I know... strange, but when my child started a new school, the cleaning products used in her classroom caused her migraines! Once they stopped using it, poof - migraines gone.) Best of luck! |
Hello everyone, and Happy new year to everyone, I am sad and happy at the same time today , thru this website I contacted Seattle Rescue Organization they were so wonderful, and quick to my sorprise too , I contacted Sue and then Mary got back to me telling me that they had a couple families in mind that they both had had OES before and were looking for another dog, I belive that the family my dog is going to, has lost their shipie of old age, so I know they must be wanting to love another shippie really bad , I am so heart broken though, you have no idea how much all this hurts , yesterday a member of the rescue organization that lives close by me and by the way she breeds oes, came and pick my little girl up, it was so hard to see her go , but I had to stop been selfish and think of Mimi first, my son is definatelly alergic to dogs, and last week he had a really bad attackt and we thought he was going to die on us, it was very scary, so seen that my son does not get better and I will be going and taking him to different specialists thru out the state I can see how mimi was been neglected, and you all know how strong attention demanding shipies can be, so I had to let her go thinking of her first before my own feelings, I thank you for all your support and I hope the rescue will let me contact her new owners so I can get at least a picture of her once in a while, be safe everyone and may God bless you all, thanks Rosie |
Thank you for the update, Rosie. You did what's best for all involved. I'm sure Mimi will find a loving family and the attention she deserves. I hope your son gets well soon! |
That was a heartbreaking decision, I am sure. You were right to do what is best for Mimi. I'm sure the rescue will place her in a loving home where she'll be appropriately spoiled.
My best wishes for you to find allergy relief for your son! |
I'm so sorry that you had to let her go... I hope your son will get better soon! |
oh, Rosie that's so sad You did a good thing by finding her a good home, I hope your son gets better quickly. |
Thank you for the update, Rosie. I feel so badly for you! I can't even imagine how hard it was to see Mimi walk out the door, but you can rest easy knowing you did the right thing. She's young enough that she'll adapt to a new home easily.
I hope you can find a good specialist soon to help your son. Take care. Chris |
