Hi, Danielle. It's great that you are asking such good questions. We're all happy to help or provide feedback. I personally wouldn't give my own vaccines. Vaccines are usually given by the vet at your pooch's annual checkup. This checkup is very important for the health of your OES and a great opportunity for you to ask questions. Your vet is a very necessary and important resource for you. He/She is your dog's primary physician. |
Well, I can tell you from personal experience....You better make sure you give the shot in the right area....Panda is now 2 and my husband...who is an emt...has given Panda all of her shots except rabies...WEEEELLLL, this last time he didnt wait till I got home from work to hold her and gave it to her on the back of her neck.....she now has a lump..it has gone down some, but not all of the way...took her to the vet and she said it was a injection reaction...He basically gave her the shot in the wrong area...if it doesnt completely go away in the next two weeks, it will have to be surgically removed....Brian has given up vetrinarianism.....The doctor wil be giving the shots from now on....
PS..the correct location is to pinch the skin between the shoulder blades and shoot the injection toward the head....and rub really well afterward... |
