I cut it off Cinde's it would smell, I like a short beard. |
Not alot you can do about the brown. You can try a whitening shampoo, but they are drying if used too frequently. If you do not want to trim the beard you can pull the hair back in a band to keep it out of the food and water. If you look at pictures of "show dogs" most of them have the brown stain around their mouth. Keeping the beard trimmed keeps it out of the water and keeps it clean. |
And, some dogs just have browner beards than others. My parents' sheepdog has a very brown mouth, but Barney is fairly white (without us doing anything to him) |
Changing the water in the bowl frequently helps. Clyde's got a pretty brown mouth too. I could probably whiten it a little if I did some of the treatments but, since there's really no cure, it's just not worth putting him (and me!) through it all the time. |
The brown is to do with each individual dogs ph level in their saliva. Not much you can do about it. |
Whitening shampoos, waterless blue spray shampoos and regular washing helps. There is also some stain removal products available at good pet supply places that help to fade the brown once it is there. Wiping the beard with a hand towel after a drink or food also helps. Depends also if they are dribbly or not, I have been lucky as mine are not dribbly so clean white faces. |
