Chicken and Honey Biscuits (for pooches)
2 1/2 teaspoons dry yeast 1/4 cup lukewarm water 1 egg 3/4 cup chicken broth 1/4 cup honey 2 tablespoons minced garlic 3 cups whole wheat flour 1 cup cracked wheat Preheat oven to 325 degrees F (165 C ) In a large bowl dissolve yeast in water. Add egg, broth, honey and garlic. Gradually blend in the flour and cracked wheat. Add enough wheat flour to form a stiff dough. Transfer to a floured surface and knead until smooth (about 3-5 minutes). Shape the dough into a ball and roll to 1/4-inch (6 mm) thick. Using bone-shaped cookie-cutters cut out biscuits. Place on ungreased baking sheets, spacing them about 1/4-inch (6 mm) apart. Gather up the scraps, roll out again, and cut additional biscuits. Bake for 45 minutes. Let cool overnight. Makes several dozen biscuits that freeze well. |

Great another one, this is wonderful, have tried the others that were posted, well not me the dogs even tho they smelt good enough to eat myself.  The breath ones were a huge hit with the girls and me as they made nice non doggie breath. Let you know how these ones pass the sheepie taste test. Thanks again, I always like doing healthy home made treats for the girls. I think they will be lined up in the kitchen again waiting for those biscuits to cool down enough to try  |
| I'm having trouble finding cracked wheat. I looked at our 2 chain grocery stores and they don't sell it. Do you know...is this a specialty item at a health food store? |
| Cracked Wheat also comes under the name "Bourghul" used in Lebanese food a lot. If you can't find it in a normal grocery store, a health food shop should have it. |

One wonders if you can't find bulghur, how about Irish oats? The difference would be bulghur takes in water quickly whereas the Irish oats would have to be soaked for awhile. hmmmmm  |
