Well, you will always be Fergie's Mom, but I guess it depends on whether it is a sad reminder of her too brief (but very special) lifetime. I like using my first name. That allowed me to add Maggie seamlessly without worrying about my username.  Not like I planned it. Actually, it was because I joined before I adopted Chumley. And being that she is an older dog, I don't particularly think of myself as her mom. Maggie is another story. Can Chumley be her mom? Anyway, I guess it just depends on whether you would feel sad to say goodbye to your username. . .
So I guess I didn't really help. But I wanted to respond so you knew I appreciated what you must be thinking about. |

Truthfully, I was a little bit concerned when so many people signed up with their pet's name as their username, for exactly this reason. Don't get me wrong, it's fine, I just was worried that some might not want to come back after a loss, and what about 2nd dogs, etc. Nothing wrong with "MissD"... is there?

| So in my family, we were taught you toss a coin, but then you base your decision based on your reaction to what the coin toss reveals. So if it is heads and you are sad, then you should make the other choice. In a way, your asking why Ron said what he did suggests your instinctive reaction is to want to keep your username. So that's something to consider. |
| I would change it.... I can't remember which poem it is, but one peom that really touched me said that it wasn't honoring the dogs memory by remaining sad, or by not giving all your love to another dog. I thought it made sense. After all, Fergie made you happy, she wouldn't want you to stay sad.
I would pick something that is "you".  |
| When I joined the forum and named myself Drezzie's Mom, the thought never entered my head that someday I wouldn't have her. I just gave myself the name based on who I was at that point in time.
So Ron, if we rename ourselves, can you do your voodoo so that we keep all our past posts, or do we start from square one? BTW, Deana, I love Cinde's avatar. The typical "frog" position! Chris |
| Yes, I can just change your name and everything else stays the same.
Cassie's mom did it... Take a look at this post of hers, and how I changed her name (all previous posts get changed, too) and how I made her "rank" into something appropriate.

| I agree with changing your user name too. When I started the forum I had no idea what I'd be getting into so I thought Annie's mom would be appropriate. I too have thought about changing it as well. |

I chose Daisie because it happens to be my favorite flower, and was gonna be my dogs name years ago until my aunt and uncle named their dog that....so if I can't use it for my dog I can use it for forums. That way as Ron said if I ever lost our dog, then I can still be Daisie, without any sad memories. Good luck with something new....I hope I don't become confused either, you've been Fergies Mom for so long. |

| I would like it if everyone could use their own name...as opposed to their dog's name or whatever...but that might be a big task to change all that...instead people could do what I do and have a signature on the bottom of their post with their name and their dog(s) names too. |
