This is our first 'nasty' incident with him. I hope it was just the treats and not him being sick or anything... |

poor barney.
doggie hangover. i'm sure he thinks extra treats were worth your extra cleanup. hope he feels better soon! |
Poor Barns!!
Hope he's feeling better tonight! |
Remember, you can use Kaopectate (adult does) and Pepto Bismol on Sheepies. |
So far, he seems okay. No personality change and I went home at lunch and he went out and only peed, but to me that seemed like a good sign.
Does anyone know how much rice and chicken to feed him if I wanted to give him that tonight instead of regular food? And, if I've never fed him anything but his food might this upset him more? |
Try this post for a recipe and my dosing guidleline for ricewater...

Steph, also half of an imodium ad will work too...our vet recommended that when panda had the runs...the next poop was fine!
Panda sends very wet kisses to Barney to make him feel better! |
When my past OES had the runs, and she did a lot cause of her sensitive stomach, I also ways fed her just a bowl of plain long grain white rice and nothing else. She was fine the next day with a couple of meals like that. |
Plain rice is our tried and true remedy. |
What I was interested in was the amount, like what constitutes 'a bowl'? Is it a cup, 2 cups, etc?
Good news, though. Mr. Barney has worked it out of his system and is much better and wolfed down his regular dinner of dog food and cottage cheese, so all is well (for today!) |
I consider a bowl of rice to be 2 of those measuring cups. Like I mean you know the little cups you get for measuring out baking stuff, they come with the 1/4cup,1/3,1/2 and 1 cup all strung together. It also for me depends on how bad the runs are... |
Hi,
I have to say this is the worst thing about Sheepdogs. They seem very sensitive to food changes and gross bits they find running loose in the park. I had to learn the hard way. Thank GOD I had a good carpet cleaner. I never gave Sherwood people food. That solved two issues... begging and the possibility of the dreaded runs. The second was that the moment I suspected he had eaten something gross that would give him the runs I gave him an immodium... check the proper dosage depending on size of dog. That worked amazing! Giving him the immodium before the mess worked great... You could tell by the stool that the immodium had saved the day and the carpet! Hmmm why do dogs eat such gross thing? My Lab he could stomach anything but Sheepdogs are sensitive. Sherwood would NOT eat rice. I gave him Sensible Choice Lamb & Rice Meal all his life and he loved it. When he was sick I refrained from letting him have any food for up to eight hours after he had had an immodium. Cheers, Rachel Cheers, Rachel |
Rachel if you do a search in regards to immodium you will find some interesting info. It can be very dangerous to dogs, especially OES. I use it for mine as well, but I wouldn't recommend anyone try it for the first time on their dog without watching very closely for any adverse reactions. |
I'm glad to hear that Barney's feeling better!
I'm probably jinxing myself by saying this, but Clyde has had only one "explosion" and it was when he was very young. Even that seemed like a fluke thing-- I think it was stressed related. One thing for sure, Clyde definitely didn't get one of the sensitive sheepie stomachs. Nothing bothers him. I don't think he's ever refused any food or had any adverse reactions to anything we've ever given him. He reminds me of my father... |
Shhhhhh... don't say things like that! |
