The Birds

Has anyone seen the movie The Birds? I'm looking out my window at work and there are literally hundreds of birds landing in the trees and the simulatenously flying away together, then landing again...I'm a little scared... 8O

Also, we have a peacock who has made our office grounds his home...and he scares me too!

Just don't say you're afraid to be alone. That's why the birds attacked in the movie. 8O
lol.. I know that bird feeling...when we got married in San Diego, we took a 1/2 day deep sea fishing adventure...all these little cute yellow, green and orange birds were all over...I have a picture of one on Brians head...but there were literally thousands of them...the worst are pigons...gross....geese scare me...there is a park across the street with several mean mean geese...
Our receptionist is this crazy old retired lady (and that I mean that in a good natured way!) named Dody. In the morning to get to our building we have to park about a block and a half away in a parking structure and then we walk through the pathway into campus, which is a long brick walkway in between all these tall buildings-- dorms, student center, etc. Well every morning for as long as Dody has worked at the university, which is over 40 years, Dody has fed the birds on her way in (she brings peanuts). Being in the city, that's a lot of pigeons! Believe it or not, the birds KNOW her and begin swooping from the end of the pathway toward her every morning when they see her. People scream and run for cover because it's essentially a tunnel with no top and there's no way to get away from birds. It's pretty scary every time you see it let alone the first time! Dody just laughs and keeps tossing peanuts.

I had to share because every time I see it happen, I think of The Birds too!
The birds with the evil peanut master....
Here is the peacock...

I saw this topic and was wondering what I might find! Well...to be honest, I was hoping someone had the same harrowing experience that I had. When I was in 6th grade, I was riding my bike to a friend's house and was attacked by red winged blackbirds. They hit be in the back of my head with their beaks. Of course I didn't realize what had happened until I fell into the bushes. Well, I was scared to death and finished riding off to my friends, called my Dad and refused to ride home alone. He said he'd come drive over and pick me up. However, he rode his bike too. When he picked me up, he told me to ride on the other side of the street, so we did. While riding, he said, "Go home, fast!". Can you believe it, the birds flew across the street and hit me on the head AGAIN! By this time I was petrified. I turned around and saw my dad trying to hit the bird with his bicycle. This was the scariest thing that has every happened t me. Until this very day, I refuse to ride a bicycle alone and cover my head when birds fly over head or dart out of a bush or tree. Shares the **** out of me.

What happened in reality is that several male red winged blackbirds protect the nest once the female lays eggs (nice, huh?) This particular set of birds was attacking everyone and everything. The animal control came and took the nest out of the tree. Damage was already done to me! I hate birds!
We were attacked like that as kids by blue jays--they had nests nearby too, and would either attack because we got too close, or because they wanted to use our hair for nesting materials.

I also have been bitten by ducks while running on the path by the bay near my parents' house. Not a huge fan of birds...
Stacy, I dont mean to laugh...but....that is the funniest kid story that I have heard in a long time.....
Stacy, Oh do I remember that movie. It came out when I was VERY pregmant. We went to a drive in movie to see it. My sister and brother in-law were there to. I had my first born (age 2 )a sleep in the back seat. It was so intense when the birds were attacking, I was very frighten, our car was a convertable, was June and warm, well anyway, was watching the movie and when the terrible birds were attacking he threw pop corn at me in the car. I jumped up so fast to fight off (the birds) I thought were attcking us. I was so mad at him, he thought it was funny. I DID NOT!!
I almost went into labor from fright. Got sick and went home. I will never forget that movie. Everytime I see the birds on WIRES I think of that movie and still get scard.
I don't know Stacy, I think you might just have the "Dody" gift for attracting them...
OMG Steph, I was attacked my Bluejays when I was younger.
I was 8 yrs old and since them I have been deathly afraid of birds...actually all feathered things.
The first time I was attacked I was sitting on our back deck and was holding a peanut butter & jelly sandwich. One of the birds flew threw the sandwich. I was so scared I didn't want to go out of the house. Mom asked me to get the mail. I got down on my hand and knees and basically crawled under my OES Daisy's legs.
The second attack also by a Bluejay was 8 years later. I was sitting outside smoking a cigarette and it flew right into the back of my head then started flapping it's wings like crazy. I was so freaked out from bird germs I went and had my haircut.
So.... anyway... Also I have always been scared of Peacocks. We used to go to this little zoo called VanSaun and everytime my parents took me by the Peacocks they would do their mating dance (when they extend the feathers and shake them)
I am so happy there are no Bluejays in the desert!!!
My best friend had a Cockatiel, Spike and he bird knew I hated birds... I guess. Everytime I came in her apartment the darn bird would hang upside down start flapping his wings & hissing at me. He only did this to me.... EVIL!!
If you don't like birds don't go to Catalina Island! When I went there a Seagull landed on on my friends head :cow: . I was freaking out. It reminded me of the movie birds. I couldn't believe how many there were.
I couldn't get off that darn island fast enough.
Oh, Elissa. I'm dying of laughter at your story too! Those friggin' feathered creatures (sorry, to those of you who like birds).

I also had a friend in high school who had a parakeet. I didn't know it was out of the cage and I was sitting at the kitchen table. The thing came flying through the kitchen and I flew so fast undernesth the table and was shaking. His family thought it was hysterical. I literally started crying and they put the bird away.
Stacy,
I also duck anytime I hear a bird close by. As a matter of fact this evening a bird chirped really loud in our lemon tree. I ran to my hubby and hid behind him.... The friggin Bluejays scarred me for life. lol

Sorry about all the typing errors in my last post. I was rushing to leave the house to pick up Ryan from his after school program.
I think I was in 9th grade and The Birds was on the local station with part 1 on Monday and part 2 on Tuesday. I wasn't feeling too good on Monday, so I was allowed to miss school. Since I watched part 1, I couldn't miss part 2, so a faked being sick (the only time, I swear!!!) to be able to see the rest of the movie.
Now I have birds (egrets and herons) all over my back yard...and seagulls too! :D !
Here's a "nice" bird story: A few years ago, I was riding with a friend in her car when we saw a bird just sitting in the middle of the street. Its mate was nearby in the gutter, dead :( . I yelled for her to stop the car because I just knew someone was going to run over the bird sitting in the middle of a traffic lane. I ran back to the bird thinking it would fly away. It just sat there! I thought maybe it was injured since it didn't mofe. I picked it up and walked across the street to the grass and held out my hands and it flew away, safe! Whew! My good deed for the day  .
LMAO!!! I think you should go outside and RUN wildly right through ALL those birds!! Just think of the fun youd have!!LOL!!

Ok my kid/bird story. As I have mentioned I am from Miami florida,I had wild peacocks in my yard ALL the time, and love them, also the cubans (and my dad since he is a cuban!!LOL)love the bird Guienia,Im not too sure of the spelling, but they call this bird the best "watch dog" ever.See these birds sit high up in trees, and during the day they chase the crap out of anything that walks in their path, including my poor dogs!!LOL!!However at night they are real quiet, then when you have someone pull into your driveway either company or someone lost these birds YELL!!!!Sqwauk!!!!and make such a noise any robber or friend visiting would turn around running.

So being I was "used" too bigger birds I wasnt too afraid when these ducks took over our yard,(we had a nice pond in the back yard, even the gators loved it!!)So one day i was just walking across the yard and suddenly out f know where this female duck starts chasing me,of course i trip and fall like in a horror movie, this duck is all over me like white on rice,Im screaming for someone too help get this freakin duck off of me,MAN those bills really pinch the crap out of ya!! Of course my sister just laughed, until the duck saw her and went after her.Well too this day i see a duck of any kind Im off the other way!!!YIKES!!
OMG! I just did a search on the forum to see if anyone has gone to Catalina island (we're thinking of a trip) and I came up with an old post about all of us getting attacked by birds. This is what Elissa said:

...maybe we shouldn't go!!!!
I re-read this entire thread. Stacy, those red wing blackbirds are nasty. They used to nest in the horse pasture and would attack if you got within 100 feet of the nest. I wore my riding helmet when I went to get Bob!

And last night Bob and I were have a nice canter in the outdoor arena when he suddenly threw his head up and bolted. I had no control. Turns out sparrows wre dive bombing us! I got him settled and it happened again! I really dislike birds (except parrots which are not native to Illinois).
Stacy, are you planning to go to Catalina?

You totally should. It is really pretty and quaint and I've never been bothered by birds there...
