My experience - I'm rescuing a puppy next weekend - to NC

I have been looking for an OES for 3 months. I wanted badly to get a rescued dog, but I was told repeatedly by the people that I contacted that they would not place one of their rescued dogs in a home with children present. (the child doesn't actually live with me--she is my granddaughter and visits regularly). And honestly--I would not want a pet that would be threat to children even if I didn't have one visiting or staying with me. I grew more and more fustrated and was finally on the verge of giving up and buying a puppy--when I was contacted by a person who has a 2 yr old OES, is moving and is no longer able to keep her dog. She lives 2 states away from me but we agreed to meet halfway next weekend so I could pick up Hannah. I feel really fortunate to have found her. She has grown up in a family with kids, and has been well cared for--but my heart still aches over some of the heartbreaking stories I've heard over the last 3 months.

[b]Deograine, What part of the country do you live in? I think you cntacted me about getting a Rescue Baby and talked to you on the phone... I know a women in Conn. that has one named Hannah.....Kaye Second Chance OES Rescue
I live in NC. I don't think its the same Hannah, this OES is still with its owner. She is moving and selling the dog. She has been bred once and has not been spayed, so that is one of the first things I'm going to have to do. I want to give her a little time to adjust to her new home first. I did find one OES that needed rescue in TN, but she had been beaten and was so nervous and frightened that I think the exurburance of a rowdy 6 year old would have overwhelmed her. My grandaughter is autistic and so its difficult for her to understand that she can't make immediate friends with the dog. I just couldn't take the chance that she might hurt my granddaughter because she felt threatened by her. I struggled with the decision for several days. I think with patience and time she will come out of her shell and learn to trust. I decided she need an experienced dog owner to help her. I sure would have liked to have given her a good home though, she is a beautiful dog, and has had a very rough start to life. But I found Hannah and she needs a good home too :D
Congratulations on your up coming adoption of Hannah.
Hope everything works out for all envolved.
Hi Deograine,

You sound like a great partner for Hannah! I'm sure both could use the good company.

Best wishes and best of luck!
