1. All dogs and cats must be registered and microchipped in Victoria from 1st May, 2007. 2. Some animals will be exempt especially when a vet advises against it. 3. All Pet Shops, breeders, pounds and shelters must microchip animals before selling them or face a $1000 fine. 4. Councils may desex all their municipatilies dogs and cats, Professional dog breeders and others with special circumstances are exempt. Well this is the law coming in and hopefully it will help reduce the numbers of unwanted or strays, do you think it is an appropriate law or not? |

to me it sounds pretty good, not too over the top or crazy. I think taking steps to decrease the unwanted strays or accidental breeding is a good idea. |
Excellent idea! |
Great laws! |
They sound good and reasonable to me too! |
I agree, they sound very good and very reasonable. I wish somebody would clue in some of the governments in THIS country the same!

I personally think that the most important thing is the compulsory microchipping, breeders, pet shops & shelters etc. have to have all the pups or kittens microchipped then transferred over to the new owners name before they go to their new homes. All cats and Dogs!! The best thing is after may 2007 when it is required by law those poor animals that end up dumped by careless owners that purchase a baby animal then don't want it can be traced back through the microchip details whether they are registered or not with local council and charged!! A lot of people have pets not registered with there local councils so this way they are taged with traceable details for life. |
