Hi and congrats on your new puppy! I haven't heard of that breeder, so I'm no help there.
As for the busy family and an OES puppy...of course they don't like to be left alone, but sometimes they have to. My husband and I are gone all day at work and then come home to our sheepie. I'm sure Barney would love if we were home every hour of the day, but that's not possible, so he adjusts to our schedule. I came home at a different time than usual the other day and he was absolutely passed out sleeping in the kitchen and then looked at me like, why did I have to come home and interrupt his nap time? (Usually when I get home at the usual hour he's waiting for me). We had OES growing up as kids and all I can say is make sure to train your daughters and your dog. The good thing is you are getting a puppy so at least it'll start off smaller than your kids, but that's when you need to teach it the obedience stuff so that when your 5 year old daughter is 30 pounds lighter than the dog, no one will get knocked over. Good luck! |
you are lucky your wife comes home so early. we both work until later and have put our puppy in puppy daycare (I can't believe it myself!) |
Congratulations on your new puppy and welcome to the forum! Just make sure you discuss important health issues with your breeder - make sure the parents were tested for hips and eyes, find out what shots the puppy has had so far.
Our puppy (who is 11 months old now) spends periods of time alone when I'm on business trips. We have a dog sitter come in mid day to give him a potty break and let him play a bit. You may want to look into that for the first month or two. Your puppy won't be able to 'hold it" the full day for a few months. |
Welcome to the forum
I would recommend contacting the OESCA breeder referal person, Tarja Peters at oescrazy2@yahoo.com to see if the breeder you have chosen signed the code of ethics, or does any health testing etc. MO has a pretty bad reputation for breeders, so I would be extra cautious if that is where you are getting a pup from. Do you live in MO? If so, have you gone to this breeders home, met their dogs, seen the living conditions? If you don't live in MO Tarja can give you a list of breeders in your area. Good luck! Please keep us posted! |
Hi NWD,
I have never heard of them either. Just their name makes them sound like a pet store or mill operation. I agree, I also would recommend contacting the OESCA breeder referal person, Tarja Peters at oescrazy2@yahoo.com Zach |
I called them once to see if they might be interested in helping me get an OES breed club off the ground. They never returned my calls. I only live a few miles from them I believe they are situated in Ballwin, a neighboring village to Ellisville where I live. I have no idea about their dogs or facilities; since they didn't respond, I sure was not going to nose around their place. |
