Puppy's Day Out!

Tom and I took Mallory with us to Pets Mart yesterday.
Had to pick up some toys and treats for the gift exchange we are having on our Boxer Board. And figured we'd take the pup for more socializing.
Boy was she ever socialized!!! LOL People flocked to her!
Mallory was getting really frustrated though because she couldn't see over the tops of all the displays and kept standing up against things to see over so she knew what was going on beyond that display because she tends to be a very cautious pup. Not a scardy cat, just a careful girl.
She would whine and up she would go on her hind legs, look at Tom and I, then back over the top of the display and then around it she would go.
Tom says, "Enough of this" and picks her up and sets her in the cart, atop the bag of dog food already in the cart.
I put her in a sit stay and there she rode like a regal Queen looking down on her royal subjects. She was so happy to be up high, able to look down on all the other dogs that she never offered to try to get out.
People left and right were ewwwing and ahhhing at her and I was amazed the number of people that came up asking to pet her.
LOL while she was still on the floor a little boy ran up and threw his arms around her and said "I love this dog!" Thank God Mallory LOVES little ones and she immediately sat down and accepted the embrace.
His Mom came up really fast behind him apologizing for his actions and saying although he has been taught not to do this when he sees a big fluffy dog he just can't help himself as he just seems to be attracted to that type of dog for some reason. Hope they will all be as good as Mallory.
When we got up to the check out Tom set Mallory back onto the floor to get the other stuff out of the cart. Mallory immediately wanted to see what was going on on the other side of the counter, so she stood up and placed her front paws on the counter. There she stood the entire check out time being fed little biscuits by the cashier who was asking a million questions about the breed.
After that we stopped at McDonald's and got Mallory a plain burger! Set it in front of her on the wrapper and she looked at me like I was nuts.
So I broke it into little pieces for her. She stood back up sniffed it and sat back down and starred at me. So then I took the meat out of the bun and made a little pile of meat and a pile of bun. She happily laid down and started munching the meat and then when she was done she ate her bread.
Tom the whole time shaking his head asking me, what are you going to do if she won't eat it, CHEW IT FOR HER?!!! LOL I said WELL, if she needs me to! (Just Kidding)
We had so much fun taking the puppy with us.
It was so much different then taking the Boxers. They never get any attention. They are so popular here though. I think that is the difference, you see a sheepdog maybe once a yr if that, you see boxers everywhere on a daily basis.
Just wanted to share our puppies day out!

Let me see if I got this right, I should bring the dogs into to the Petsmart with me? At my dog park, they are all married already . . . or single like me.

Very cute story. Sounds like she had a ball. I can see why she is your dream come true.
Awww mallory had such a wonderful day, what a sweetie.
How fun! Sheepies do get a lot of attention.
Sounds like Mallory had a great day being the Queen!
I'd love to see a pic of her riding in the shopping cart, surveying her kingdom.
We saw lots of boxers on Saturday. We went to a local dog park for our Canine Hiking Club party and there was already another party going on - the local Boxer Rescue group. Bailey had a great time running with the boxers.

Going to the PetsMart is also a great training opportunity. Our obedience class went to the Petco en masse last week to practice keeping the dog's attention in distracting situations. Good practice in keeping the dog in a sit/stay during commotion, and practicing good manners in greeting strangers. And yes, being a sheepie Bailey did get a lot more attention than most of the other dogs. His friend Dharma the Bouvier also got a lot of attention - people love fluffy dogs!
