Maggie - full of surprises

Barney and Maggie have been training for CD trials for about a month now and are doing reasonably well. My biggest concern is Maggie's domineering behavior toward other dogs we meet while walking in the neighborhood, and her dominance toward Barney. This could present a real problem at a trial. I have been looking for opportunities to give her more socialization with other dogs in agility and rally obedience settings. This evening I brought her to a novice obedience class that had been in session for several weeks. There were about a dozen dogs there and Maggie acted like a pro. Then came the long down - the dogs were lined up along one side of the ring about 3 feet apart. The down actually lasted about 15 minutes while the trainer worked with the various dogs. At one point the dogs one each side of Maggie got up and went over to play with Maggie -- SHE DIDN'T MOVE. Wow. was I surprised. What a doll.

By coincidence there was another lady there with her dog, that had just been awarded the CD. She had a number of very useful tips for handler behavior in the ring.
