eating snow

it's not really a behavioral issue, i find it funny....but here goes.

jack eats snow, he loves it. as he trots in the back yard, he runs with his nose down and eats massive mouthfuls of snow, why? who knows. it makes no sense to me, but the goof seems to love the flavor of snow.

as a result, jack gets walked about 30% more in the winter. so he can pee out all the snow he ate/drank on the last walk.

....what a doofus.

Bogart loves to eat snow!

Adores chasing snowflakes :D
Clyde drops his lower jaw and runs around the yard like a vacuum sucking up the snow. He comes in covered!
Wish I knew what it is about snow that Drez finds so appealing! Even at hear age and with her infirmities, snow is still one of her favorite things!
Chris
My girls love to play in snow, eat snow, pee in snow etc...lol.... I just got back from taking Sky for a walk, and the snow is so deep now she sticks her whole head in the snow, looks like a furrier ostrich for a minute then pops back up with a very dumb, very happy look. LOL

This is the same dog who won't walk outside if it's wet? lol
Noooo that's little Miss Priss Dancer... but even she loves snow, she just doesn't like rain or mud.
This is Bosley's first snow, and the first day he saw it he wouldn't even go outside into the yard! He just stared at the white field and there was no way he was stepping out there. Well that changed after the first day. Now he runs in it, lays down in it, eats it, tries to dig in it. He comes in with all these little snow-balls hanging off of him and then he melts all over the house
I just love sheepies in the snow. Snow, well we have to travel in winter to go to the snow in Victoria. The house we have up in the high country does get snow around it in winter, we have only had the property for 5 years and I always laugh at the first time my girls experienced the snow for the first time. My old girl peppa, yep she hates mud, wet feet, rain etc. etc. and her first time with snow was hillarious. It started snowing about 5 in the morning, it kept snowing and got to about 11.00 and realised OK these girls need to go outside to twinkle. Well pep, tiptoed through the snow and wondered about all this white cold, wet stuff, 14 try squats later realised everywhere was the same to pee and finally did one and rushed back inside at a 100 mph. We were in fits of laughter watching her disgust at this white, cold, wet stuff. Kelsey just ran outside, twinkled, ran like a mad women through the snow, ate it, dug it and looked like a snow plough in full action, could not get her to come inside she was just having such a wow of a time in all this funny white stuff. No drinks of water as she had plenty, eating the snow  Brie had her introduction to the white stuff this past winter and loved it, it seems so natural a sheepie and snow. God bless peppa we will miss her and her tip toeing through the snow and the laughs she gave us when it rains, there's mud and that funny white, cold stuff on the ground, we will certainly miss our precious girl when it is winter in OZ next year.
Norman and Carl love it too. Norman lays down in it and he'll stay outside for as long as you let him. He's a total frozen mess when he's done.
Mojo just had his first snow. He immediately started eating it.
I sure hope we get some this year. Last year we barely got enough to cover the ground. :( I would love for my babies to get to play in the snow like all of yours!

If it doesn't come to us, we may have to take a little drive to the mountains one day for play!! :D

Bite your tongue! It's only cute the first week or so-- then you'd get tired of walking on wet carpet all the time and running around with a towel!

Just kidding (well, sort of!)-- it is very cute but I'll take dry and 70 degrees any day!
You know what I find works well.... I attach a hand towel to my swiffer and just mop it up with that. I have a carpet runner to catch most coming from the back door.
Hmmmmmmmmm, I said all dogs eat snow but see I'm wrong....... I THOUGHT all dogs ate snow....... all MY dogs eat snow (not YELLOW snow) 8O
What's Snow????

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wish I could ask that question!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks Saul....I wasnt quite sure how to answer... :D
The option "What Snow? " has been added to the poll.... lol..... such a thing never would've occured to me.
I have to ask the same...we had to put the a/c back on. I am trying to let Sam's fur/hair grow out for Christmas...luckily there is a cold front coming tomorrow.
And she has no idea what a squirrel is  !
Ollies loves the snow, he saw it for the first time last week and loved it - we also had heavy snow last night and he was rolling in it and eating it - such a sight  I think all dogs love it, I had a lab and a collie and they just loved the snow - bless em
I feel bad... after reading how much the other sheepies love snow I feel like Bailey is being deprived! Maybe I should drive him up to Flagstaff this winter so he can play in the snow...
ahhh don't feel bad - you want to see the state of my kitchen floor, mud + snow = big fat mess, especially when Ollie won't sit still to have his paws wiped.
My reply was what is snow. We haven't had snow here in years. My Mom and Dad had a husky mix that was quite disappointed with his first taste of snow. He had watched my Mom gather the snow and make snow cream, which he got a bite of. He then promptly asked to go out and took a big bite of snow from the yard. Mom said he looked really disappointed by the taste difference.
This week was Argos' first snow. I am such a sap for him that I video taped his first encounter with the cold white stuff...Hysterical. Yes Argos too loves to eat snow, and roll in it, and play you can't see me in the snow. It's a bit messy...but well worth watching!
Last week it snowed here, Luke and Rosco realized it at 3:30am and HAD to go out  Great fun, but they wouldn't come back in the house  I had to bribe them with turkey and gravy

As a human I hate the snow...when I was a kid on the farm it was fun. My grandpa would take a plow and build huge hills for me to sled down...and then there was ski-dooing.

As an adult, living in the city where driving is a must...HATE it.

From a dog owner perspective, esp sheepies...LOVE the snow. She stays cleaner, altho wet, it's is so much nicer not having to bath etc. But I do have her nylon jacket to keep her dry.

Remy likes to eat the snow, but not one to play in it.
Welcome to the forum Argos! :)
Yuki will eat snow if it's FRESH from falling and lots and lots of it everywhere.

What I hate is when the snow starts to melt and you notice nothing but yellow holes all over it. Ugly ugly.
WHat about the landmines.
I had so many arthritis attacks trying to pry the "landmines" from the ground. They were stuck to the ground!
Did someone say they wanted snow 8O . Come to Northern MI, been snowing all day and I think we're getting about 1000"
We're getting it now too... wow, went from nothing to a blizzard in minutes! Can't even see across the street. We're supposed to get about 15 cm with wind up to 60 km an hour....
Am waiting for it to snow in TN. We have had "spitting" snow a couple of times but not enough to really say it was snowing, much less accumulating on the ground. Can't wait to see Daisy's reaction.

The other day we did get a hard rain as we started out on our first walk of the morning. Before we got to the end of the yard it started raining REAL hard and for the first time, she turned around and dragged me back to the house. Normally, she loves the rain and especially playing in all the mud puddles she can find.
:D Hi, Yes, Willoughby loves to eat snow, roll in it and in fact do everything except throw snowballs and clap his paws. When he first saw snow (he's 7 months) his little face lit up and off he went. My other sheepdogs, Bentley and Toby( of blessed memory) were the same.I have a fenced back garden and so he can run to his little heart's content. We have wonderful walks in the park by the river. I have trained him to wait for me to sit (spinal problems)on convenient benches and his reward is a tasty biscuit. Snow has been just great. I'm hoping to have my son who is a systems adminstrator help me with posting pictures.
Lynda and Willoughby
It snowed here for the first time on Monday and Barney decided that he LOVES snow. He puts his head down on the ground and moves forward, just like a vacuum cleaner, eating all the snow. With his water obsession, he is just in heaven! Although, this morning he got a little too close to some yellow snow while vaccuming! 8O
Bunkie loves the snow and the cold. IT is -17 Celius [about one degree F] here today and the big idiot would not come in this morning. Just laying there on the deck in the snow  . Last night it was even colder and she refused to come in. She likes to make snowball with her nose and toss them in the air. She brings little ones in with her on her legs and chews them off. I love wet carpet. :
