Lump

Brian gave Panda her shots last week....He's a paramedic, I usually I have no issues with this...I trust him. 2 nights ago, I was brushing Panda and I noticed a lump on the back side of her neck. I wasnt there when Brian gave her the shot, but Im sure that that is the location. In the past, the lump hasnt lasted this long...I keep rubbing it, but it doesnt seem to disapate...Should I take her to the vet? Brian says it will go down over time, but Im now second guessing him.

I don't know, Darcy. You might at least call your vet and see what they have to say. I used to give myself allergy shots in my upper thigh and sometimes I would get large bumps/welts that would last a week, so it could just be a reaction to the way he gave them (maybe more slanted or shot it in faster than usual or something...)
Poor Panda. Barney says he'll rub it to make it feel better...
I agree - I'd call just to be sure I didn't have to worry! :D
Thanks Steph, Panda says that would be nice...Poor baby!
Just got off the phone with the vet, and she said that as long as she was eating and drinking normally, to just let it go. Keep a warm compress on it. and keep her activity level lower...(ha)...she said it sounds like a cramped muscle.
Whew!
Good news! :D
Hi Darcy-
That's good news! I'm so glad you called :)

Does Panda get shots for allergies or is it for something else? I'm giving Darby 2 shots a week... one for mold and one for dust mites (they can't mix the two serums or one is neutralized). If it's for allergies, have you been doing this long? Have you seen much improvement yet in Panda?
No the shot was just her annual booster. She doesnt react to the shots at all...doesnt even look back at us....It was funny, when the vet gave her the shot for the "chip", I cringed at the size of the needle. The vet said hold her tight, she may not like it....well, she didnt even budge...didnt even bother her....she looked at me with the " see mom, its not so bad AND you get a cookie"......
Panda is so brave!
Wow Panda is brave!

Maybe it's time for Brian to go for a refresher class! He's not counting Panda's injection in his con ed, is he?
Remember, bevel up!
I don't want to scare you and I am sure Panda is fine, but I learned from experience with a cat that had vaccine-associated sarcoma that vets have moved towards giving shots in the rear legs so that if there is an issue, amputation is a possible treatment. If you give it in the neck, can't really do much if it does turn out to be an issue. Don't know if the same is true for dogs but you might want to ask your vet where is the best location for shots in the future.
Okay... gotcha. Can he vaccinate all of mine too? We'll all be over in March

I had 5 of mine chipped a few weeks back and was so scared it would hurt terribly. (Panda had arrived chipped but not registered.) I had seen that huge needle too... come to find out it wasn't much of anything and was well worth it. Dumb me thought it traumatize them

Yes that is a risk with dogs as well, but it doesn't happen nearly as often with dogs as it does with cats. I lost a cat to that as well.
Dancer had a lump after her last booster too, or maybe it was Sky, I can't remember which now, but it freaked me out too. It did finally go away after a week or so. I would just keep an eye on it.
I used to give all my own shots too when I raised siamese, but I don't with my dogs. I don't have a stethescope anymore, and even if not getting shots I want them to have a thorough check up.
Panda goes to the vet twice a year...just for check ups...Im paranoid. She goes again in Feb...if it doesnt go away in the next week or so, she'll be going sooner.
I had the same problem with Kelsey when she had her annual heartworm injection, a lump came up in the spot where the injection went in and took about 3 weeks to go away. Panic mode and rang the vet the next day, but he said it will go away and it did. After having another dog with a mast cell tumour any lumps and I panic!!
Poor Darcy! I say poor Darcy instead of poor Panda cause it doesn't seem to be bothering Panda!

Okay, now what kind of guilt trip can you lay on Brian? May be worth something!

Chris
I'd say a day at the Spa should be offered as a token of his affection for you..considering all that stress you were under. Yup! My vote for a day at the spa..or shopping. :D

Glad to hear Panda is okay. Panda boy, is very happy about his too as he holds a special fondness for her since he viewed her in that Cheerleader outfit.

Marianne and the boys
Darcy I vote for shopping

Tanya
Panda goes to the vet tommorrow at 9 am. I just cant wait it out..it just seems too big...please say a prayer for the baby.

Thanks...Darcy
Oh, I am sorry you are scared for your baby! It is probably a cyst or an ingrown hair or something totally mundane. I'm sending lots of positive vibes your way.
We're keeping you and Panda in our thoughts, but it probably is nothing and it will go away on it's own I would think....
Please let us know how it goes :)
Darcy I hope all is Ok with panda and as valerie said maybe just a cyst or ingrown hair, sending panda a prayer that all is OK and keeping fingers cross that is all it will be, better to have it checked out if it has not gone down. Kelseys took a good three weeks, so hopefully pandas is just a case of the above. Special hugs to you and panda.
Good luck Panda! Lots of good wishes coming your way.
Good luck Panda!!

Make sure Brian brings you breakfast in bed for a week!
Good luck Panda! Be brave at the vets, it'll be over soon!
Love, Barney
Lots of hugs and prayers being sent to Panda and Mommy. I'm sure she's fine. Keep us posted please.
Chris
Prayers going up for you & Panda right now. :D Please let us know what the vet says.
Just got back from the vet...She took a small biopsy sample. She said that it was a reaction from the injection site, however, there were a few cells that she couldnt identify...soooo, I will know tommorrow. The results will be back then.

Panda was a very good girl and didnt even flinch when they took the sample. She'll have a very good day today..nap, and then Bailey is coming over tonight to play....

Thanks everyone for your prayers and thoughts, we need them for one more day....
You got it! Hang in there. The waiting must be awful. I'm thinking happy thoughts for both of you. Have fun with Bailey!!
Bravo, Panda! What a good, brave girl you are! :D

We'll keep you in our prayers! :D
Of course you have our prayers for as long as you need them. Please try to relax, don't assume anything. Hugs all around!
Chris
Any news?
Not yet...but Im about to call!
GRRRR, Just got off the phone with the vet...yesterday she said that the labs would be back today, but of course when I called, the tech said that they wont be back till tommorrow or Sat....I cant stand this...waiting is so hard. I need a shot of whiskey!
Oh good grief!

Who do we all call to get some answers?
frustrating!!
dang them!
VERY FRUSTRATING!! :x

Be careful, sometimes that shot (or a few of them) can cause a lump... on your forehead as you hit the keyboard.
:D :D :D didnt think of that
I don't know how I missed this thread yesterday, wow that must be frustrating!
I hope they get back to you soon.
Okay, sometimes I wonder who really knows what!.....The vet JUST called.. The lab says its a reaction to the injecton with fatty cell and other misc tissue. She did say that if the lump isnt gone in three weeks that it should be removed surgically, so that it doesnt change or turn into something else....So everyone, I just wanted to say thanks for everything. I feel much better, although I dont know how Panda is going to feel if she has to get it removed....she might have to bite daddy on the leg for this one.
Great news Darcy,

Darcy it will probably go down in that time frame, kelseys took a good 3 weeks to disappear, hoping she does not have to get it surgically removed as her coat is looking so fluffy and pretty at the moment, be ashame to have it shaved.

I say if she has too, then panda should be allowed free access to clippers and have a go at dads hair 8O Think that would be good revenge for her
LOL....Lisa, that would be a great idea...only one problem....Brian is already bald 8O
Well, he's got to have hair somewhere . . . .

We're all breathing a sigh of relief for you and Panda!
What good news! :D Now you can exhale!
Chris
Great news!
Oh good! Hopefully it will be gone soon and surgery won't have to be considered!

I'll be Brian is feeling bad, huh?
I'm glad to hear it! Hope it goes away on its own.
Phew!!! So glad it's not serious!
I told Brian last night what the vet said.....he got all bent out of shape.
He said "Fine, from now on the vet can give her shots..." If he had done it right in the first place, this wouldnt have happened.

I think he feels bad and kicking himself for hurting Panda...but geeze...men and their backward way of dealing with stuff like this is just too much.... 8O
Good news! Barney was so worried. Hopefully it'll disappear on its own before anything else needs to be done. At least you went to the vet and can feel better about knowing for sure what it was.
Now you can have that shot of whiskey in celebration instead of frustration!
I had eggnog with wild turkey instead.....Yummy :D
