I don't think I can hear enough stories to prepare myself. I just love hearing as many stories as possible! Did your water break (or did the doctor have to do it/or happened at the hospital)? |
|
Never went into labour...week and plus over due, then they induced...still no contractions, baby was in and out of stress and so we did a c-section. Apparantly my body just would not go into labour, she never dropped, never had braxton...
C-sec...felt the doctor cutting, not painful, but still could feel exactly what she was doing...freezing didn't take I guess, but it was okay, baby was overdue, wrinkly and had meconium on her, and she had a bit of breathing diffiuculty and needed to stay in oxygen tent for two days, then she was healed and has been pretty healthy ever since. Second baby, we planned the c-section and it went great. Baby came out perfect. |
My first was due on valentine's day, but it came and went with no signs at all. I eventually went into labor on March 2nd, but I wasn't sure. It was just REALLY bad back pain, it did not feel like what I expected. Anyway, at about 1am I knew for sure, and it was so intense I thought it would be any second. That went on for hours. When she began to come out they discovered she was breech with her feet right up over her head, so they pushed her back in and rushed me for an emergency c section. Born March 3, almost 3 weeks late. Only 6lbs 2oz though (I gained almost 70 lbs, obviously not all baby! LOL).... Very healthy, and flexible...lol...
With my second, who was due in April, I had spotting all through the pregnancy, only gained 19lbs, went into early labor a couple of times, and then went into labor on March 10 early in the morning. I went to the hospital around 7am, they said I wasn't in labor and decided to monitor me. They said it was only mild contractions and not to worry. By 11am I felt the urge to push, and there was no stopping him. LOL He went into distress though (heartrate dropped) so, again, I was rushed for an emergency c section, the placenta had ruptured. He was born March 10, almost 3 weeks early. He was so tiny, only 5lbs 5oz, but he is absolutely fine My third was due July 28th, and I felt fantastic through the whole pregnancy. No spotting, no morning sickness, nothing. I gained a normal amount of weight, about 39 lbs, and since I didn't feel even a twinge of back pain, or any mild contractions at all, I thought I would go overdue. I was sitting at the table having coffee with a friend and all of a sudden my water broke. That was a huge shock to me, with my other two that didn't happen. I still didn't feel anything...lol... so I changed, and went on with my day, more excited, thinking it would start any minute. My water had broke at 3pm on July 25th, and by 11pm still nothing. I called the hospital and asked what I should do, they said I should come in right away. I said ok, but I went to McDonalds first. LOL I got to the hospital about 11:30pm, they hooked me up to monitors and checked me and said I had been in labor all day without knowing it and I was already about 7 cm dilated. LOL (I thought that was a bonus) Anyway, they kept checking, but my labor didn't progress any further. All night. All day the next day, just mild contractions that got me no where. They had given me an epidural thinking it would be soon and that I would need it, but they think it stopped labor. Once again, an emergency c section because they didn't want to wait any longer since my water had broken 24 hours before. My last boy was born July 26 at 3:21 pm... almost right on time. LOL He was 6 lbs 13 oz.... All 3 of my kids were exactly 19.5 inches long which was kind of neat. LOL |
I haven't gone through anything myself yet but my mom had a pretty typical labor with me: Mild contractions leading into the stronger ones, her water broke at the hospital- I was 2 weeks over due I think, born at 6:14 am after 12 hours of labor. My dad wouldn't let her go to the hospital until after midnight, because he thought the bill would be cheaper (1 day fewer stay)... It WASN'T! Turns out they flipped over "day" terms at noon, not midnight. Silly daddy! Then the nurses were all making a big fuss over him- drove my mom crazy. Here she is starving, trying to give birth and dad's sitting next to her having scrambled eggs chatting with the nurses... Yeah, guess what, he got yelled at!!! (So tell Mr. Jo: moral of the story- take your wife into the hospital when she asks you too, and don't eat in front of her when all she gets is ice chips!!!)
He did MUCH better when my sister was born- they induced for her (she was late too) my mom said it was a much more painful labor, because she didn't have any forerunner to the major contractions- just no contractions, and then the really bad, strong ones. I think that my sister's labor was shorter though... Good luck Jo!!! Karen |
Never had a baby but all of my friends are having them right now. My one girlfriend has had 2. The first one she was in labour start to end 3 hours, no drugs, home the next day. The last little girl they had 2 weeks ago, Jess was in labour for a total of 1 hour and 8 minutes. No drugs. She just felt yuck with Tanner and went to the hospital and delivered right away. I hope when I have kids, my labour is that easy. |
Oh my gosh. what stories! That has to be one of the things we hope to avoid: Going into labor late at night when we're tired and already had a full day of events. Then going to the hospital and not delivering for several more hours. My mom had me 12 hours after she went into labor.
Quote: C-sec...felt the doctor cutting, not painful, but still could feel exactly what she was doing...
that scares the crap out of me. /nervous laugh Even though you said "not painful" ...knowing that you could still tell the doctor was cutting you makes me want to faint!! I can't believe you (willowsprite) went to mcdonalds before you hit the hospital. Hope that never came back to haunt you during your stay at the hospital. Iriskmj, your story is hilarious. If I let Mr. Joah read that, he'd get a good laugh and swear that would be him. Though I know he wouldn't actually go through with it since he could never handle a "more" emotional wife. He did get told at our birthing class that he should already practice giving me massages (to find out what works for me even if it's different during labor)... and his hands are always on my back now when he's home. **hearts** |
Quote: I can't believe you (willowsprite) went to mcdonalds before you hit the hospital. Hope that never came back to haunt you during your stay at the hospital.
No it wasn't a problem...lol... but I didn't stay long either. He was born in the afternoon, I went home the next day by 11am, even after such a long (though mild, still exhausting) labor and a c section. I insisted, I didn't want to be away from any of my babies. |
Sorry I can't help with the early labor pains. Both of my pregnancies were induced. My first was 2 weeks overdue and the doctor suggested that I be induced and broke the water. My beautiful daughter was born about 7 hrs later and labor was not that bad until the end. The only part that I remember as being bad was that (this was a small hospital) they had another patient in the delivery room and I felt like they were trying to keep me slowed down until the first baby was delivered. Otherwise my daughter would have been born in the labor room. Even in this small hospital that wouldn't be a problem now - which tells you how long ago this was.
My son was also induced, but because I was having a lot of swelling in my leg and they were afraid of toxemia. He was induced on his approximate due date with drugs. Due to irregular heartbeats they then would not give any pain meds to me (cord over the shoulder - not any real problem as it turned out)/ Anyway - I really do not recall the labor - only the delivery of my 2 very special children who are now grown. It all goes by very fast, try to remember to enjoy each moment - even when it is a trying one. |
With Ryan I went into labor exactly 10 days early. It was pretty funny because the ultrasound said I was 10 days further along. So I kept telling everyone he was going to be born on May 15th (May 25th was his due date) On May 14th at 8:45pm I was carrying some laundry up to my bedroom and my water broke. We got in the car, first to drop off the dogs at my ex-inlaws house... then onto the hospital. An hour trip.
About 5 minutes from the Hospital I got my first contraction. They gave me pictocin to speed things along. Ryan was born at 6:03 am May 15th. Only 45 minutes of actually pushing. Hayley was by emergency c-section after the version procedure (to move her from breech position didn't work and her heartbeat dropped.) She was also 10 days early. They wanted to wait until 39 weeks but I was already 2 1/2 centimeters dilated at 38 1/2 so they decided that it was time. Elissa PS: my friend is in the hospital as we speak...giving birth |
Both times were pretty much the same for me, only 3 years apart...Water broke early in the morning, around 6:00AM. Went to the hospital, was monitored, and contractions weren't strong enough so I got to take some pills. Lucky me, cause that kicked them in!
Baby was born early evening. I remember how starving I was after having the baby, and the hospital cafe was closed so both times we ordered pizza and ate while the nurses and doctors did their thing with the newborn. Bring some money with you LOL |
Okay, let's see how good my memory is (kids are 23 and 19). First let me say that both my pregnancies were flawless - no morning sickness, no braxton-hicks, no pain. I actually felt gypped because I wanted a day or so off, but never felt the need to!
Spencer was due on April 10. On April 9, we had 11" of snow!! A friend of mine who knew someone on our township emergency squad called them to let them know where we lived and that I was due any day, in case we needed them. No worry - 14 days later, still no baby. Dr said on a Friday that if I didn't go into labor by that Sunday, she would meet me at the hospital Sunday morning. Sure enough, no labor until Sunday. It was a GORGEOUS day, and when we went out the door we looked up and saw a beautiful hot air balloon going over our house. Just gliding along quietly and peacefully. Don't know why, but that just soothed me so much. Got to the hospital by 7 AM. They hooked me up to pitocin by 9 AM and we waited. And waited. And waited. And waited. The monitor showed that I was having contractions, but I didn't feel them at all. Dr checked on me a few times during the day, but I wasn't dilated enough to start pushing. At the last check, she said that he hadn't dropped enough yet and that she couldn't reach his head. Decision was made for a c-section. THEN I felt like I could push, but was told I couldn't. First time I yelled all day! Found out after his birth that I would never have been able to have him vaginally. His head was turned a bit and they couldn't reach him to turn it and he couldn't come down the birth canal. Everything went well, and my beautiful baby boy Spencer was born at 8:15 PM on April 25 by c-section. FINALLY! He weighed 9 lbs even, and was 21.5" tall. I gained 35 lbs with him, and I'm only 5'2". My daughter was the polar opposite. At that time, drs were of the belief - once a c-section, always a c-section. So we scheduled her birth for August 18. About 6 AM on July 26, my water broke in bed. So off to the hospital we went. At first the dr didn't want me to deliver that day because she was 24 days early. But I insisted because I was afraid that since my water was already gone, there would be a chance for infection to set in. She finally agreed so off to the operating room we went. At 5:11 PM on July 26, my beautiful baby girl Sarah was born, weighing a petite 6 lbs. 3.5 oz, and was 19.5" tall. I gained about 24 lbs with her. So my firstborn didn't want to leave the comfort of Mom, and since he was 15 days late, he continued to grow. 9 lbs is a BIG baby for a little person! And my secondborn wanted to come out and face the world in a hurry, and since she was 24 days early, 6 lbs. 3.5 oz. was all she was able to get to. It's so funny how their births reflect their personalities even to this day. Spencer has always been more laid back, very close to Mom, taking things one day at a time. Sarah and I are very close as well, but she just goes, goes, goes! Rushes from here to there, plans things MONTHS in advance, wants to be everywhere and do everything! Drives herself nuts sometimes. But I just think it's so funny that the way they were born is the way they actually are still. Sorry, got a bit ramble-y, huh? Anyway, that's my story! Chris |
Joahaeyo...You must be close. I remember the anxious waiting toward the end on all three of mine. Towards the end I experienced very low back cramping. I kinda lost my appetite towards the end. But at the very end I had a wrestlessness that would not let me relax. With my 3rd I was lying on the couch tossing and turning all night. I could not get comfortable. As my husband was headed out the door for work my water broke off we went. Good luck to you. When is your due date? |
My best friend didn't even know she was in labor! They were doing their tour of the hospital maternity ward and she said she felt like she had to go to the bathroom because she felt damp, like she was leaking. The doctor said he wanted to examine her and turns out she was in labor!
P.S. My mom was 4 weeks late with my sister. IN JULY!!!!! That's why I'm the favorite child! |
I love the stories!!! I am horrible at waiting! Remember how I was a few weeks before I got yuki! I don't think many people can out-number the posts I made. I guess I should get my hospital bag ready soon just in case I'm like Mr. J's co-workers and have my baby 7 wks early (happened a few weeks ago). I totally forget sometimes that I'm pregnant. Then something rolls around inside of me to remind me. Other times, all I can think about is how pregnant I am (miserable). |
I'm going to REALLY make you jealous!!! I was in the hospital 17 minutes before my son was born!!! We got to the hospital, I told the nurse I felt like pushing she patted me on the head and said, OH HONEY, this is your first baby you'll be here for hours... I said NO REALLY. To humor me she gave a quick peak, her face turned pale and boy did she run FAST . Piece of CAKE. 9lb baby in 17 minutes FLAT!!!! |
My goodness people! I have never heard of such large babies as the group of OES people here!! Gail with her 9 pound premies! You all with 8, 9 pound babies...even Chris' over 6 pound 3 week early baby!
I was right on time and I was 5 pounds flat, my older brother was right about on time and he was 5 pounds 10 ounces, and then my little brother, mr. chubs was a hefty 7 and a half pounds! sheesh! There must be something about OES people (Actually, not true since my parents had OES when all of us were born...hmmm) |
I was 9lbs 10oz.
I hope Jordan isn't that big!!! Our real estate agent had TWINS that were BOTH 7lbs and something. Her stomach was huge!!!!! |
I was 4 lb 2 oz and Lisa was 4 lbs even...granted we were twins...BUT..my co workers wife had twins, Hanna and Hayley came in at over 8 lbs each....Janna was sooo big her skin started to crack....gross..they had the biggest heads Ive ever seen...lol...for the first year they were known as the "biggins'".... |
Well, I was only a teeny bit over 3lbs, my twin brother HOWEVER was 7lbs THE HOGGER
But it's ok, I CAUGHT UP |
Ginny, LMAO............. |
Ok I will put my 2 cents worth in here too.
First baby 3 weeks late, a girl. I was in labor for 21 hrs. passed out when I had her, she was 7lbs 9 oz. Girl #2 born 2 weeks late was 8 lbs 7 oz. Was sick for 6 months morning noon and night. Girl # 3 was 2 weeks late, she was 12 lbs 3 oz and 23 3/4 inches long they put me to sleep when I had her. didn't know I was carring faturnal twins, I had lost the boy early on, but didn't know it till she was born. Fourth child A BOY finally, he was 10 lbs 3 oz and had him like a breeze" I had lost 52 lbs durning the pregnany. I had gotten to heavy myself. So I had to really watch what I ate. First 3 girls I had gaind about 45 lbs w |
Good thing you didn't try for #4!!!!!!!!!!!! She'd been in size 12's at birth!!!!!!!!!
I'd also like to mention that "back in the day" WHEN I WAS BORN SOOOOO LONG ago!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My Mom didn't know she was having twins, they told her to give a push for the after birth AND THERE I CAME I was lucky I didn't end up in the bucket on the FLOOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
Ginny, STOP...youre making me spit out my coffee |
Me too Darcy! |
Isn't gravity wonderful?
One of the biggest rules in EMS is: Ifyou drop the baby, pick it up! |
Ginny, if you read my post I did have #4, I had BOY 6 yrs later. He was the flu.LOLOLO
And in my day they also did not do ultra sounds. So they never new I had been carring twins. Oh well thats many many yrs ago. By the way I had morning sickness with all of them the first 3 had to be induced, but my 4 th was so fast I had to hold my legs crossed to get to the dilivery room. one push and he was there. |
OOOPS, that's what I get for reading FAST!!!! |
When I was pregnant I couldn't read or watch enough on TV about
labor and delivery, Both times, even tho I knew the second would be c-sectioned. My first was an emergency c-section. Don't be worried though, it really isn't that big a deal if you have to have one. I was home just over 24 hours, and I had no pain at all. I actually never went back for my follow up - because I really hate Drs. - so I took out my own staples. My first one was 9lb 4 oz and 22" and my second was 9 1/2 lbs 22 1/2". I had the second c-section because I am not able to progress on my own in labor and also because my pelvis never widened like it should have when I was growing up, so I already knew I wouldn't able to deliver normally. The problem was that the second time I was in labor for almost a week before my section date and the Dr refused to take him, because he wouldn't listen to me when I told him my due date was off. The fact that the Drs didn't listen to me was a running theme. I really hated that they couldn't be bothered to listen. And you wonder why I really hate Drs?! My sons are both pretty big for their ages. Ian is 12 and he was just measured at school- almost 5'9" - 7" taller than me, and Gabe is 40" and just turned 2 a couple months ago. And both are very cute - but I know I am biased! (but really, they are very cute) Fun reading about all this! Shellie |
This is a very fun topic, I haven't thought about my labors in awhile:
#1 Girl- I had a great pregnancy until my 7th month, started swelling and eventually went on complete bed rest for toxemia. My labor started 1 am and at 6:30 am I arrived at hospital and was chewed out by staff for not coming in earlier, (I was 32.5 weeks) I hadn't wanted to wake my husband (Stupid move) Anyway she was born at 8 am and weighed 4 lb. 13 oz. No time for epidural, oh well, she wasn't that big!!! #2 Girl- I actually made it to 35.5 weeks, wow!! With this one my water started trickling, no big pop or anything. We got to the hospital on a Friday morning around 7 am, and labor just never really progressed. They had me walk and move around, gave me pitocin, but I still didn't progress past 4-5 cm. So a second round of pitocin was given after a bit of rest. Still, nothing. I got through the night and into the next morning, and around noon I requested an epidural, cause I was sick of the pain!! And finally around 1:27 pm Saturday, I felt the pressure and delivered baby. She was 6 lb. 15 oz. #3 Boy- This was the most horendous birth of all!! I actually made it to 40 weeks! It was Friday night and my husband was unwinding from the long week, had a beer, etc. I had actually lost the mucous plug at 4 pm (Sorry for Gross factor) , at around 9:30 pm the contractions started, and came every 5 minutes, some were 7 min. some were 3. I was reluctant to leave because I wanted to finish cleaning pots and pans, the nesting instinct is strong. My mom kicked us out and said to hurry. Got to the hospital and it was very quiet. The nurses started the pre admit stuff, and I was just left to lay in a bed with no IVs started or anything. They monitored me a little, around midnight, much to the horror of my sister I started to deliver my baby, there was no one there, the doctor wasn't there yet and the nurses thought I'd go in the morning. My husband was out of the room trying to get me an epidural. My sis pressed the panic button and everyone came running, thankfully the nurses knew what they were doing, Alex was born, I barely could push him out he was too big for me at 7 lbs 11 oz. His apgar was a 1, but he recovered nicely. My advice is never delay going to hospital if you feel something is up!! Better to be safe than sorry!! Good luck, and look forward to seeing your new bundle!! Sharon |
Ian must have really grown! I don't remember him even being as tall as me let alone taller! You go IAN!!!! |
he has grown over 2 inches since we last measured him in June!
Gonna be big like Daddy Shellie |
Ow, ow, ow ow ow. All those big babies.
If, (a BIG IF) hubby and I ever have another it will most likely be a scheduled c section since I had the first 3 by c section. I'd rather go natural though, I found the pain after a c section pretty bad. It didn't slow me down though, you have no time to be sick, or in pain, or tired when you're a mom, you just keep going. |
SAD STORY:
Neighbour's of ours, great friends...anyways they have a child with a disabilty, but I'm not sure what. Anyways, she also has a teenager. So about a week ago now, our house and theirs is covered by a fire truck, 2 ambulances, police cars, and family members. We see the EMT bring in stuff, and get the stretcher, we see Kathy come out very upset, get on the strtcher and they leave. The fire truck leaves, one ambulance leaves, but everyone else stays. Approx 1-2 hours later, seemed like a long time, another vehicle(van) comes, with the back open we see two beds itype things in the back. He's wearing a suit, comes into their house, and a few minutes later walks out carrying a wrapped bundle and gently places it in the truck. When he left the rest of police, and family left. The scene is very quiet. That night I went and picked up some things to make a gift basket to take to the hospital, but needed to know where Kathy went. Bryon's mom was there babysitting their 2-3 yr daughter. She filled me in. Kathy was pregnant (we didn't know), that bundle I saw was a baby (I had suspected that). Apparantly they just had some tests in Oct and this was a normal baby, no disabilties and they were gonna have a boy...Then she must have went into labour, and delivered, she was 7 mths gestation, and the baby was dead. His umbilical cord developed a knot, and he died...I can only assume he was a still birth. Anyways, I haven't had a chance to visit with them, but in time when she feels up to it we will be able too. She was a nurse too, and LOVES kids...it's been a very very hard time. No one could have prevented or expected to have this happen. Make sure you feel kicks everyday, have a kick count...you can google for a chart idea. |
I cleaned & cleaned and cleaned a few days prior to labor. When I actually went into labor, my water broke, so there was no doubt. I was soaked for hours - looked like I squirted my legs with a water hose! lol I didn't have contractions naturally - they gave me pitocin and it still took about 4 hours for them to kick in. I ended up with a c-sec after about 16 hours of labor (5 of those pushing with every contraction). My pelvic bones are too small for a natural delivery, and they discover this AFTER I go into labor and push all that time. It could have saved me a pulled groin muscle, lol
My other two were c-sections, so I didn't go into labor. They were both born a little preemie actually (37 wks and 35 wks) because they were so large, they measured above their gestation...still do to this day. They both had NICU stays but are great today. I've had horror birth stories, so don't let mine scare you. I had 3 different doctors, but it's Mississippi - they aren't the greatest! Sad to say, but it's true (not saying there aren't good docs in this area, but I just haven't found an ob/gyn in our area YET). With my last pregnancy (had a m/c), I was driving all the way to ILs in Shreveport (6.5 hours) to see a doctor there. I was determined not to have that baby with any of those ob/gyns my others were born with. It's that bad... |
Today was a scare!
I went to the doctor's and the nurse wanted to send me to Labor&Delivery to get checked out because "I was measuring small." I'm 29 centimeters (measurement of belly) but should be 36 centimeters. I'm 34wks 3 days. They said when you are measuring small, it COULD mean that my water broke, the baby isn't producing enough fluids, something is wrong with the placenta, or... I'm just measuring small. I've gained OVER 40lbs since the start of the pregnancy, so they ruled out me not gaining enough weight. If anything, she was shocked I had already gained so much. I had ultrasound after ultrasound done. Thankfully, after 4 hrs of being at the hospital and being monitored for contractions, they say I'm just measuring small. Ironically, his head is measuring 36wks 5 days ...and his body 35wks and something. How can he be small yet big? I left a little confused what happened. Was nice to see another ultrasound though. |
Okay don't hate me now..here goes
First pregnancy..I weighed 112 pounds when I gave birth..baby was 7 1/2 pounds and labour was 3 hrs. The nurse at the front desk was really snotty to me and said in an incredulous voice, "Well are you preganant?" DUH no I either had a big lunch or always walk into maternity ward to check in!" Second pregnancy..(This happened 10 years later) I weighed 128 pounds and baby was also 7 1/2 pounds. Doctor told me this labour would be quicker and I thought "yah right, 10 years apart..I'll probably be in labour 3 days this time" Nope, it was quicker and so scary as my car had broke down on the freeway when I was due any day. My other child was in the car with me..and sure enough went into labor but got to the hospital in time..with seconds to spare. Had no time to change even into a hospital gown..son, friends..everyone present..LOL I was tempted to call my son Freeway..but settled for the name Todd. Joahaeyo - You take care of yourself and my little neice/nephew..we want you both healthy! I'll be thinking of you! Marianne and the boys |
"tempted to call your son Freeway"
I can't believe you were so thin!!! That makes me feel like a lard esp. since the nurse was worried about how MUCH I have gained (until I said I was 6'). I keep hoping I go into labor WITHOUT HUGE amounts of pain so I can handle getting stuck in a blizzard or feel like I've got time to go take care of some things before I go to the hospital. |
Hi Again,
I think it's because I was a teen the first pregnancy and eating really healthy as the doctor explained, I probably lost weight due to heathy diet and not the teen junk food I usually ate, but gained healthy weight back during pregnancy. I weighed only about 95 pounds at the time, so 112 was not a bad weight gain. Even tho I was very young I took pre-natal classes by myself and that helped enormously in understanding the stages and how to breath and relax during labor. I clearly remember focusing on a dot on the ceiling and controlling my breathing and it worked! My weight always hovers around 100 pounds but saying that, I'm not very tall either. (You're almost a foot taller than I am, and I was 128 pounds with my second pregnancy..so it's all a matter of perspective.) Still with the fast labor as my doctor also said, the body doesn't have time to adjust than with lesser contractions and the pain is imediately intense. The contractions started a min apart the second pregnancy when I went into labor - so not much warning. Every woman experiences pregnancy differently and weight gain varies. Hang in there - you're feeling those last few week pregnancy woes..when you just wish it was over. The nesting instinct seems to be really strong with most women I've spoken to..frantic housecleaning and burst of energy just a few days before you go into labor. You swear you will never go through something like it again during labor and may even say a few cuss words to the hubby...then once the baby is born and you glance at his/her face..you'd do it again in a heartbeat! Before you get jealous of my pregnancy and labor..both times I went through it alone and even tho both were from long term relationships I will always feel I missed out on a extremely special moment in a couple's relationship. It's a wonderful bonding time and they say a couple is never happier or more in love than with a young child in the house. Take time to rest, drink your milk and relax..above all take care of yourself. Hugs Marianne |
I was 99 lbs pre pregnancy with the first, went up to 168 lbs (she was only 6lbs 2oz lol) With my second, pre preg weight was 113, and I only went up to 132. With the third pre preg weight was 100 lbs, and went up to 139. It took longer to lose the weight after the third, but after about a year I was back down to 100. |
Willow, Any tips on getting that weight off after the 3rd? I am still carrying 10 lbs for each (3) child and 10 for me. I need to lose 40 and am getting very frustrated. My youngest is 9. |
Well I was doing great with it up until 3 years ago. (my youngest is 10)
Then I got a sit-on-my-butt job with vending machine and fast food nearby and have gone up to 140. LOL I want to lose at least 20 lbs. I think the key is just eat healthy, drink water and exercise. Seriously. I've tried every diet out there. I lose, I gain more. When I had a healthy, active lifestyle I never had to worry about it. (I did anyway though) Chasing toddlers was probably a big part of that. Now I go to work and sit on my butt all day. Then I come home and spend too much time at the computer. *shrug* If you find something that works, let me know! |
I too sit behind the computer a lot. I help with do the accounts payable/receivable for our business. I think you nailed it with the eat healthy and exercise. I know I could lose 20 if I would not eat anything out of a box or a bag. If I just ate "whole foods" and smaller quantities. Anyway, I need to get it off for my health. I'll let ya know how it goes. |
My kiddos always measured different - just depends on their position. One month, I'd be above and the next below. It's amazing how much these kids worry us even before they get here! lol
Even the ultrasounds aren't 100%. I had an u/s at every appointment with Brandon, and his sizes were wrong. That's why the doctor scheduled the c-section too early - thought the dates were wrong. He was born at 35 weeks (lots of preemie factors - heck, his lungs weren't completely developed even and our pedi determined his gestational age after birth), had a lot of complications (none long-term thankfully), but he was 7 lbs 9 oz and 21". Even now at nearly 3 (3 more weeks - yikes!), he's 42 pounds and 41" tall - he's almost the size of my nearly 5 year old. He's just a really big boy for his age. I'm only 5'2" so it's scary to already have him over half my height - lol My oldest son, I had an u/s the day before he was born to make sure his lungs were okay and everything. They said he was a smaller baby, and that he weighed just over 6 pounds. He was born at 37 weeks and he was a chunky 8 lbs 5 oz and 21". Everything is going to be fine. I can't wait to "meet" that little kiddo of yours! |
Oh and the weight...
With my daughter, I gained 30 pounds (actually 50 because I lost 20 with morning sickness). We lost her when she was a week old, so I actually only weighed a little over 80 pounds at my 6 week check (was 110 pre-pregnancy so 140 when I had her). I was just crying non-stop and not taking care of myself, so... With Jake, I was 115 and gained 60 pounds with him. I lost 20 pounds with morning sickness, so I actually gained 80. I lost it really quick with him though - I was back down to 125 at my 6 week checkup and down to my normal weight around 3 months post-pardum. With Brandon, I started out at 120 and gained about 35 pounds with him. I'm STILL trying to lose all the weight from him. My boys are close in age - 18 months apart, so I used food/sodas to get quick energy to chase after my toddler during the day while I was up all night with Brandon. Him being a preemie and having all the worry/stress with his medical problems as an infant didn't help any either. Now that life has calmed down all around, I'm just now slowly starting to get back close to where I started out. It seems to be a pattern with those 3rd babies, I've noticed anyway. A lot of people I know have trouble losing weight after the 3rd+ babies. I'm sure for me having 3 pregnancies and c-sections in less than 3 years didn't help matters any either - lol Honestly, these kiddos are worth the stretch marks, weight, morning sickness, and everything. They just bring SO much joy and happiness to your life. There's never been a better love than that of a parent & a child. |
That'll be the next forum, to go right along with the stop smoking stuff, weight loss!
Maybe we could get Richard Simmons to join up. |
Anyone else watch Biggest Loser last night? That show is so inspiring! They looked completely different after all the weight came off. ......and HOT!!!
BTW, I always wondered if I'd get the pregnancy walk. I waddle EVERYWHERE now. hahaha No choice with so much pressure down there! I watched Biggest Loser last night. I was sad that Matt won (not sad, because good for him and all) but I thought that he was 'playing the game' a little too much and I have doubts about his sincerity to keep the weight off...
I felt so bad for that one girl, though, who was kicked off 2nd, I think and she hadn't lost any more weight since leaving the show...you could tell she felt self conscious. It was an interesting wedding dress that that one girl chose... I think they should do a 'surprise' re-visit later on and then award them the money instead of them knowing they have a certain amount of time, I mean anyone can lose weight with a predetermined end-date...you can just think no more twinkies until November 29...but what's to stop you after that? |
For most they will feel better so that will be their motivation to keep it off. |
