Take a walk with him. Grab your bike and make him run... make him tired with a lot of exercises.
Hope it helps! |
What he wants is to play!! This is what sheepies seem to want more than anything else. Mine (she's 2) will still do this, so I take her outside and throw the ball for her a lot. She'll then come inside and sleep. |
Annabelle is 7 months too and she does all the same things. She doesn't nip though. Annnabelle runs really fast and then will turn and go the other way and just keeps going in circles. She reminds me of a ride at the fair. On the nipping we started when Jack and Annabelle was young tapping them lightly on the nose. It shouldn't be hard, a light tap does great with their sensitive nose. A good game of fetch or a walk like others suggested should tire her out. I hope that every thing works out.

Here's a great game I stumbled upon by accident. I call it the "auto dog-walk".....
Buy yourself one of those cheap laser pointer things (or a penlight torch), sit back and relax whilst the dog goes nuts trying to chase and catch the little spotlight as you move the beam around....great fun! |
Mikeyg, I did that with Shanti and instead of chasing the light, he chased me for the lantern! jeje |
Those are all great ideas. Last night we played (like most nights) in the yard for about an hour and then went on a walk. Once we got back in the house he was still full of energy, but not as much. I will try the laser light too! Thanks! |
When Abbi was 6 months old we noticed she liked Angela's toys, so we started buying her some and going outside to play with her and her toys. (Actually she would go into the girls room, grab their toys and go a running around the house). After we bought the toys and the girls got to playing with her daily the indoor romps sort of tapered off. Of course, whenever they occured the dog and girls were tossed out for a while.
The milk jugs with treats were still her favorite toys, but she still has two of her original stuffed animals, several others are buried behing our shed. She loves to groom any stuffed animals without noise makers in them. If they make a noise it will get chewed until it stops, then groomed. The reason I mention the toys is their calming effect. Chews and empty boxes, balls, and empty garbage cans all became great entertainment. Its better to have fun with them than to get upset all of the time. Never tried the laser light, but Abbi loves to pounce on flashlight beams too. |
I don't know if Sheepies like to find things, but with my other dogs I would throw a handful of small treats out onto the grass, and they spend time searching for them. Mental stimulation wears out dogs just as much as physical. Practice your obedience lessons. |
MikeyG - I love the laser pointer! I bought one for my sheepie for Xmas, the best "toy" I ever bought him, lol! |
Ummm laser pointers can SERIOUSLY dammage the retina of human and dogs eyes....BE VERY CAREFULL |
OK, OK, just for the record...I never, ever point the thing anywhere near the dog. I point it at the florr, well out of his way and he chases it. I'd no more shine it in/near his eye than in my own. |
What people dont realise is that these things are class 3A lasers.. |
Hey,
How familiar your problem sounds to all of us who have lived thru the puppy stage with our OES. I have owned many different kinds of dogs in my life and my Bam-Bam won the prize. Rather than look at him as an unruly ball of fur, I chose to see the world thru his eyes. It was a brand new place full of adventure and excitement. He was a nipper also. Those puppy teeth sure can be sharp, but he grew out of this and now has the most gentle mouth. When he would get a little rough I would make a mournful sound and tell him NO that hurts MA, then turn my back on him. This seemed to work quite well for us. The answer to a happy OES puppy for me was lots of exercise and mental stimulation and a firm tone when he got to rough. Bam-Bam has never been physically corrected in anyway. I think their feelings are so on the surface it is not necessary. A harsh tone would sometimes depress him for hours and make me feel like a monster. I would say he has trained me quite well! |
