Anyone thinking about donating to help them get petey back to healthy status? I want to but who do I contact for that or do I just send a check or whatever? Anyone else who is doing this let me know so I can get them money and meds ASAP. It would be great if a bunch of us sponsored petey because he is obviously in a lot of trouble but I knwo that not everyone can do so especially with the holidays coming up. Just a thought though. |
OMG, poor Petey! I cried so hard when I saw his pictures and saw his sad, sad face. He just looks like he's in so much pain. And 38 lbs!! That's CRIMINAL!! God bless the Great Pry rescue who took him in. Oh, my heart is just breaking!
Chris |
Yeah, I'll try to help. I wrote to Cindy after Kaye posted to ask if I can pay the vet for a treatment or two.
Here is the address they say to send donations- From the Texas OES Rescue Website- We are requesting donations to help offset PETEY's medical expenses. If you are interested in helping, we are accepting donations at Texas Old English Sheepdog Rescue, P.O. Box 66222, Houston, TX 77266. http://www.texasoesrescue.com/PETEYdonationpage.htm |
That look in the big pic is the same one that Norman gives when I ask him to move! So sad. Too bad he's not closer we could physically help him.
For donations, there is a button at the bottom of the page. It says SPONSOR PAGE. Just click that it'll give instructions for how to send donations. |
Come on everyone!! We can make a difference!! If each of us donated..5, 10 , 20 dollars..it would add up!!
The donation page says you can email them at texasoesrecue@hotmail.com They will email you back so as your name is listed on donation page (amounts not stated) and where to send the money. Marianne |
I just cry and cry. I do not live in USA but in Sweden. What can I do apart from sending as much healing as possible?
|
I talked to one of my teachers up at school and she says that sarcoptic mange is easily treated by given Ivermectin daily and an entire bottle should only cost about 30 dollars and given his weight he should get about .3 cc a day so that will last a long time. They said on their website that it was hard to treat so I did some reserach. The only way it is hard to treat is if his immune system doesnt accept the ivermectin but either way it should be able to be treated easily. I've already written a check to them and am going to send it out tomorrow. I hope other will help me in sponsoring this poor guy. Thanks for the info on where to send the money!! |
This is the most heartwrenching thing I've ever seen I also urge everyone to give what they can, just look at your own dogs and think how lucky they are. |
I e-mailed the Texas OES Rescue to get their address. If you want to send a donation, here's the info:
Texas OES Rescue Attn: Petey Donation P.O. Box 66222 Houston, TX 77266 Steve Schott is the rescue person who replied. His phone number is: 254-897-7886. Dear guest from Sweden. This is heartbreaking and I have tears in my eyes as I type. Even if you can't send a monetary donation, your thoughts and good wishes are truly helpful. I'm sure Petey can feel your kindness. |
Thanks Paula! |
Ok I am sending off a check today... Who's with me!!! |
Mine's already in the mail. I know it's getting to be the holidays and money can be tight. But it doesn't matter how much you give, any amount will help. If 30 people sent $1, that should cover the bottle of Ivermectin (which my horse gets for worms). |
I'm with you. Can't sit back and see this poor boy in that condition and not do anything.
Chris |
Paula.
Thank you for your words that went straight into my heart and made me cry again for this poor dog. I was praying and sending healing all day yesterday. I have also tried to raise some money and I will probably be able to send money next week but how do I do? I can't send dollar in an envelope can I? Or can I transfer money to anyone of you via my VISA and then you write a check and send them? Y. |
Guest, you should think about registering for this forum. It's free and there are no strings attached.
You could send the money (in U.S. dollars) as long as it was well-concealed in paper. I'm sure the rescue would also take an international money order (once again, in U.S. dollars). There are too many scams involving credit cards so I doubt the rescue would want to accept donations that way. |
I sent off an international money order today.. It wasn't for a hugh amount, but at least it was something...
I want this dog to survive, so that he will know the love and kindness of a family that really wants him. We can make a difference!! |
Hi.
I had no idea you could do that kind of thing with the VISA. I am very protective about mine and never share the number over the net and didn't think about that it would be the other way around as well. But of course. I am sorry if I came across as a scam. I will go to the bank instead and see if I can use what Dudster talks about; an international money order. |
And about registrering. I think I am banned due to having a discussion here about not using crates so I will use the guest- Id and just write when I really, really feel my heart is touched. As with Petey. |
There are no users banned on this forum, and never have been.
I've banned a couple of spammers, but by their IP addresses. |
Ok.
Then I am back with my old nick. But back to Petey. This thread is not about me. Yvonne/Guest |
I sent one today too, I hope that a little guy gets better soon.
Tanya |
I followed through yesterday morning too and applied funds directly to Petey's vet via credit card. Sure hope this poor guy makes it... he just has to know what it's like to be loved and cared for again. |
It took me a few days to process all of this about Petey. So incredibly heartwrenching and unbelievable. It's unfathomable to me to think there are people out there who treat animals and humans this way
I will be sending some money off to Petey as well. I look forward to seeing new pictures of him with some meat on his bones. One day, I hope he is blessed with his forever family. |
That's wonderful that so many of you have helped out. |
Sending a donation today to help this poor little boy - please keep us posted on his progress. |
I am so excited to hear that so many of you have donated what you could to this poor guy. I just wanted to say thanks for joining me in donating and hopefully helping this guy out a bit so he gets better. If and when he gets better Im thinking of adopting him because he needs a lot of love and attention after what he has been through. I guess Ill have to see how things go with him and if my current pup will have settled a bit by then. Thanks again to everyone who donated and to those who can't but are thinking of him or helping others. So many sheepies need our help and every little bit counts. THANK YOU TO EVERYONE. I'm sure Petey appreciates it so much. |
Count me in! I wish they used paypal. . . Have to track down my checkbook. Poor guy. I hope he feels the love network. . . |
Here's an update on Petey I received on November 19th... if you're on the other message board, I think there's an update posted. ALSO, there are new pictures on the website... Petey-boy is starting to look better!
Thanks and good job to TOESR for helping this boy! http://texasoesrescue.com/PETEYdonationpage.htm "He's very much with us!!!! He's not playing with toys yet, his primary focus on FOOD. His stools are much better and Malise says he looks like he's gained a bit of weight. I'm on my way over there today to bathe him and will update the list this evening. Malise says he doesn't like to go outside an go "potty" by himself. He wants her to go with him - guess cause it's cold here - and he's afraid she won't let him back in immediately." |
Thanks for the update Jaclin. Petey is starting to look better I hope everyone sent a little something for his medical care. |
Got a Petey update this morning: He looks much better, his skin is a lot less pink and he appears to have put on a little weight. His tail is about 3 feet long and gets irritated when he wags it and it hits his crate. He likes people and readily solicits pats and belly rubs.
He will be adopted through Texas OES Rescue but they don't know when he will be ready. The mange has to clear up, he has to gain a little weight, he's a tad anemic and he'll need to be healthy enough to be neutered. There have been several inquiries about adopting him! I'm so glad Petey is improving. Thanks to all who have donated to make his life better. |
Petey has gained 9 lbs in 9 days!! Can you believe it? He is getting at least 3 meals a day. His guardian angel Cindy is cooking him rice and chicken for each meal along with some premium kibble mixed in - Petey is eating better than his foster mommy. He has been treated for worms / parasites that did not show up on the first fecal. He will be gaining more and more every day!! His tail is starting to heal and he is not scratching as much anymore. Petey had more blood work done to see how he is handling food now.
Why did I offer to foster Petey when I have MORE than enough Pyr fosters? I have fostered 3 Pyrs that were in the same shape as Petey (or WORSE). I cannot stand a sweet creature to never know that humans can be kind - he knows now. I think Petey knows there are many people are pulling for him to get better! He has a great spirit and SUPER sweet personality! If you can foster, please offer help to your local rescue group - ANY rescue group or shelter. There are way too few fosters for the number of animals that need help. Petey says thanks to all for helping him! Hugs from Petey! He is getting the best food and care after all he has been through! Petey's foster mom |
Hi Malise~
I've heard you and Cindy are doing a great job with Petey and that he now has a bright future. He also knows what it is to be loved and no longer neglected. Bless you for taking him in... he wouldn't have made it without human kindness and intervention. Thanks so much for the update and caring about this special boy. 9 pounds... wow! |
Nine pounds is wonderful A huge thanks to all the people who helped Petey in one way or another. |
What a wonderful bit of news! Nine pounds in nine days! That's fantastic!! Thank you, Malise, for helping Petey and showing him that humans can be kind and loving. |
Thank you thank you thank you! We're so happy that Petey's future is looking bright! |
So wonderful to hear of peteys progress, he looks so much more comfortable and so great to hear he is blooming. You guys are the best!! Such a great dedicated bunch at TXOESR and big hugs to you all, you all deserve one for what you have done for this special boy. |
I'm so glad to hear he is doing better... those first pics of him just broke my heart. |
I just checked the website for updates. You have GOT to look at the pictures posted recently. He doesn't even look like the same dog! |
I know! I checked today too. The transformation is incredible -- posture, coat, activity, expression. They have done an amazing job with him. |
Hi,
Thanks for passing on the great news about Petey! Malise you are an angel for stepping up and helping this boy!! I agree with what you said regarding if anyone can foster an animal that needs a little TLC. Every bit helps! Marianne and the boys |
He looks great! We're so happy |
Wow he is blooming so much with the special angels that are caring for him. Thanks for the update and sending lots of well wishes & hugs for petey from Australia. It is just so remarkable the progress this boy has made, he looks so much more brighter & happier. |
Wow, just amazing! I was really worried he wouldn't make it, I thought it was too late.... I'm so glad it wasn't. |
He's beginning to look so good I can just cry! Look at that belly now, where there used to be nothing but ribs hanging out. The pink doesn't look as bad, and he's playful! What wonderful news!! Yay Petey!!!
Chris |
He is jumping off the ground 2 ft in the air! He is so happy now. He runs a bit after the cats but I think he just wants to play with them. He will try to eat the kitties if they want to eat his food. They really want Cindy to cook for them, too!
He had his 2nd dose of revolution Sun. He should be fairly cleared if not completely cleared within a week. I think I will test him with my pyr this coming weekend. Every pyr loves my Quinci and I am sure Petey will, too! Quinci is my distemper survivor that the vet kept telling me would not make it. Cindy will probably take Petey back to the vet for fecal, blood work and skin scraping next Mon. Cindy has been SO wonderful in doing so much to help with Petey - bathing him every week, cooking every meal and coming over to play with him! Cindy lives about 30 min from me but never fails on her weekly visits. I am so tired by the weekend that bathing dogs is such a task. Crossing fingers that 2 pyrs have a home within the next few weeks so I can be down to only 10 fosters! I will not be online much starting Fri. I have a VERY sick kitty at Texas A&M (going for surgery tomorrow). When he comes home, I will be focusing on getting him better. So many animals...so little time Regards, Petey's foster mom |
You are a saint! Thank you for all you do! |
Thanks for the update on Petey. I can't believe how he's filled out. He looks fabulous! AND happy!
Best wishes to your kitty... I hope he will be well again soon. |
Petey does looks much better, way to go boy!
Tanya |
Petey looks great!
Yay!!! |
My heart just pours over with tears! It's wonderful to see him becoming better!
Ps. Do you really need to neuter him? Hasn't this poor guy gone trough enough? I mean it's such a hard thing for the body to go trough and I think his system/body needs to rest for a long, long time. |
I just checked on Petey's website to see how he is making out.
Check him out.. the change is quite dramatic!!! http://www.texasoesrescue.com/PETEYdonationpage.htm |
Wow...He looks MUCH better!! |
He looks like a completely different dog if you lok at the pictures on the bottom and the dog on the top! Yay for Petey! |
He is looking a lot better....
Fnissa, in regards to neutering, it is a far less complicated operation to neuter a male, and it will most likely improve his health and well being as well as eliminate the risk of testicular cancer. |
He looks terrific and has a much happier face! It makes me so proud that we were able to help him. |
WOW!!!!
Happy tears flooding! WOW! ---------- Willowsprite. It's just that surgery and everything around it is a very tough thing for the body and I think this guy needs to let his body recuparate peacefully and over a long period of time. I do not think he will develop cancer now but I think he isn't fit enough to do surgery and that an operation could be as lifethreataning as cancer. When I did a standardproceduroperation the surgeons said it will take 2 (!!) years for the body to heal from it because it's such a strain on the whole system. And dogs are not that different from us and I personally think this guy has had enough. |
He looks so handsome! The before and after pictures are amazing.
After coming this far with Petey, I'm sure the rescue will wait until the time is right and he's strong enough for the surgery. But he will need to be neutered otherwise it would be viewed as irresponsible to both the public and Petey. He's healthy enough to make puppies now... all it takes is one "oops!" and more puppies enter the world when there are already too many being destroyed each day because no one wants them. Hoping that soon he'll have a home and a family of his very own. |
You do have a point Fnissa.... maybe not now but soon. |
Yea for Petey! This is such good news to hear especially around Christmas. |
Petey update on the website from Cindy. Sounds like he's doing great! I'm so happy we were able to help him!
December 12th, 2005 "HI All, Ran Petey by the vet for a checkup this am and he's up to 59#s!!! That is 20+#s in 1 month. But, he still looks a bit skinny so it looks like we're going for another 10-15#s. Have slowed his weight gain down a bit - don't want him to put on too much too fast. Cindy TxOES Rescue" |
YEAH!!!!!! Glad Petey is continuing to do well, thanks for the update
bdx4 |
That is wonderul news!
Have they got a home lined up for Petey? What are the plans for his future? |
If you have a minute, take a look at Petey's newest pictures
http://texasoesrescue.com/PETEYdonationpage.htm He is sooooo adorable and his fur is coming in white, gray and black. The black fur is probably where his skin was damaged by the mange. What a handsome boy! This is truly a rescue success story. |
Amazing! |
He looks wonderful!!! |
Wow what a transformation! |
He's lookin' good!!!! |
HAPPY NEW YEAR PETEY |
It's such a great story! To look at his "before" and "after" pictures in just 2 short months is nothing short of a miracle!! He's a beautiful boy!
Chris |
How wonderful he looks after such neglect. Excellent job you have done. |
WOW absolutely amazing how handsome has he become, what a gorgeous face, you can see the happiness radiating from his eyes.
Happy new year to Petey and all those that have worked with him over the last few months, you're all angels and miracle workers and wish you all the best |
Thanks so much for posting the latest photos of Petey!!! It just warmed my heart big time to see the joy on his face! What a wonderful example of how a bit of medicine and lots of love can make such a huge difference. For everyone involved in his recovery..a huge THANK YOU!!!
Marianne and the boys |
Anyone have any updates on Petey? I didn't see anything since the posting at the end of December. |
The rescue posted that Petey's around 70 pounds now, his hair is coming in nicely and he will be heading for his new home in Colorado soon. What a success story that one is!
Texas OES Rescue has a new mama they're working with... take a look at sweet Tally and her babes http://texasoesrescue.com/TALLYpage.htm |
HOW ADORABLE! One for me??? So glad Petey is going to a forever home. Do you know how they determined where he'd go? |
Hi Stacy-
I'm sorry... I don't know the details of his placement. I think they plan to update the site with new pictures soon though |
