and then all of a sudden i see blood. and then i see more blood. she was cutting his chin and walter moved his head and she cut his tongue! at first she thought it would be fine but then he kept bleeding and soaking towels ith blood! i honestly have never seen so much blood in my life... it took me about a minute to register the fact that my dogs mouth is pouring blood, but once it did i started bawling, then i started yelling at people to get towels and find an emergency vet. so i rushed him to the emergency vet (meanwhile he bled all over himself, me, my friend, and my car). and the poor boy needed to be sedated and have sutures in his tongue. it took about an hour and then he came out and was so bloody i had to take him back to the groomer to get bathed again.... i didnt bother getting him dried i just wanted to get him home! hes fine now. i realize that i overreacted a bit, but with the amount of blood i saw i honestly thought he was very hurt... i guess tongues bleed a lot. hes sound asleep downstairs right now, and im sure hell be happy to learn that he gets canned food this week instead of kibble. poor boy. |

Oh poor Walter!!!! Even when he's good bad things happen to him.
I hope he mends fast and easy. |
Oh poor Walter! Ouch!
I'd freak out too.... I hope he heals quickly.... and I hope it doesn't have a lasting impact on him too. |
Oh that is so awful -- poor baby! I would have freaked too. What a miserable experience. I'm glad he's resting comfortably. Keep us posted on the healing process. |
I was really upset when I read this....how awful for both you and Walter! Poor Boy you give him lots of hugs and kisses from his pal Merlin and his brothers too.
We hope Lil Walty will make a quick recovery and hope you're much better now too. Keep us posted! Marianne and the boys |
Obvioulsy, you are not alone in your reaction...I too would have flipped out...How did the groomer react? Give Walter a huge hug and kiss for me..poor baby! |
Boy, you guys can't catch a break. I am wondering why they didn't have his chin more secure, especially if that scissors were that sharp? Geez. |
Poor Walty, I would have freaked out too. I am glad he is ok though.
Hugs and kisses to Walty. Tanya |
OMG! Poor Walty!!! I would have done the same thing!!! From your story they seemed so nonchalant about it?!!!
I think they should compensate you for the vet bill!! Give him a big hug!! |
Poor Walter and Heather! I would have freaked out too, seeing all that blood.
I hope he's not scarred for life as far as grooming goes and that he feels better soon. Give him a hug from me. |
Overreacted? I think I would have gone bananas! Hope Walter is feeling better. |
Poor Walter. The good thing is that mouth injuries heal very quickly. He'll enjoy the canned food. |
Oh, poor Walter, and poor Heather, too! You absolutely did NOT overreact. By the time I left that store, there would have been more than Walter's blood spilled.
I hope at the very least they paid the vet bill, but I think they also should not have charged you for the grooming. Big hugs to Walter, poor baby! Hope he's feeling better soon, and hope the butterflies in your stomach calm down as well! Chris |
I would have completely flipped out myself if this happened. You were scared that something horrible happened. I'm glad it wasn't more serious and that he'll mend soon. I'm sure he will love the food!
If you'd like to try a new groomer, we go to Dog Barber II on Arlington Hts Rd and Dundee. Ask for Kelly, she's great! |
thanks for the kind words everyone!
the groomer was actually not going to charge me, because one of my best friends works there so they were going to do it for free. so i didnt have to pay for that, and they are going to pay me for the vet bill too. i think everyone was just in shock at first, no one realized it was that bad until we were all covered in blood. but the groomer and everyone that worked there felt terrible... she was crying and called to make sure he was ok. i told her it was ok and it was an accident but i made sure that my friend will address the fact that they shouldnt be using scissors that sharp with dogs who are anxious and moving around a lot, thats just plain negligence. im going home to see walter today... ill give him hugs from you all! |
Bless Your Heart!! I'd have flipped my lid, too!! I'm very glad he's okay. Poor fellow! |
Poor Walter! I'm glad it turned out to not be so bad...Did he seem upset when all the craziness was going on? Or was he like, Come on, guys, it's no big deal? |
That is terrible...poor Walter. I hope he is feeling better today.
hugs.. |

Uh ohhh... do I hear Torts 101 ?i have a confession to make..... i am currently sitting in torts class reading the oes message board. dont tell my parents! and i will also confess that as i was driving to the vet i was thinking of what doctrines i could use to sue them.. haha law school is taking over my life! |
Poor Walter! If it wasn't for bad luck..... Hope he's feeling better.
For future reference, I don't know if it would work for Walter because of his rough history, using a nasal spray can actually help control bleeding. Look for something called neosenephrine. It will constrict the blood vessels and slow bleeding. Works really well on human tongues and nasal membranes. Maybe you could drop a bottle off at the groomers for future use. |
