Eggs in the morming

Hi everyone,

I was very fortunate with finding just wonderful experienced OES families for our last litter. One of the families cooks an egg almost every morning along with a regular dog food diet for one of these pups. They are convienced that a egg a day takes care of or reduces the possibilities of cataracs even though there is no evidence of cataracs. Does anyone have any knowledge of this or where this infomation may have come from? I am wondering if maybe this may cause more harm than good.

I had never heard of this before so I decided to Google "Eggs + Cataracts" after reading your post and found the following passage:

"eggs fight cataracts & macular degeneration
Three recent research reports on egg consumption found that eggs are good for us, after all. The first study found that nutrients in eggs improve memory function in children and adults, while the second study found that these nutrients significantly reduce the risk of cataracts and macular degeneration."

I question whether the eggs really need to be cooked but I guess it's a good precaution just in case of salmonella, but I don't really think there's any harm in feeding the dog an egg - after all, it's protein at it's finest, and unless there's a hidden allergy to eggs, the dog should be just fine.
Wow, thanks for the research, Great info.

I guess we learn something new hopefully everyday!
thars great I had heard that eggs were good for hteir coat too. anyone heard of that.
I've heard of eggs being good for the coat. My Mom used to cook them frequently for her Tibetan terrier. Not really sure if it made a difference. I think Mom just liked to have someone to cook for after I moved out of the house :D
I know definitely that eggs are good for the coat but honestly though, given one egg a day is abit much. If people start to mess with the protein the animal gets it can cause an imbalance leading to developmental faults and can cause problems in bones and joints and muscles. One or two a week is ok but very often isnt good for them. I will try to find it in my school notes on nutrition what happens with over supplementation of protein and ill get back to you guys if you are interested. Give me few days though, have to dig them out of the closet.
You have to be extremely careful about feeding your OES eggs...

We've had an experience we'd like to share as a warning to all our OES owned fellows, because after feeding Lennon and Sofa eggs, they developed this serious condition where after learning that if Mommy and Dad stay home in the mornings (Also known as Weekends), they know it's EGG TIME!!!!!

They love them so much that they will not leave us alone until we give them their weekend scrambled eggs  Last time, Lennon wanted more, so he kept on barking, pulling us downstairs towards the kitchen and then pointing first to the fridge door, pawing it and then walking towards the stove. Danita gave him some ham but he kept being annoying, untile he managed to point at the eggs. He wanted Danita to cook another one for him!!!

Smart boy.... 8O

As far as nutrition goes, their coats are very healthy since we started feeding them eggs twice a week. I don't know what will happen if you feed them more protein from eggs, but a diet high in protein leads to agression and hyperactivity. As long as it's twice a week, we've had no problem and they seem to love them.
Hey Roland, guess you know one pup from your last litter that doesn't get breakfast cooked fresh for him every morning! Now I feel like an unfit dog-mom. But then again, I don't cook for anyone else, either.
Maggie, love you avatar!
Thanks, Saul! That's our 13 yr old Maggie in the foreground and 8 month old Nelson Jr. in the background. Only good shot I've been able to get of the two of them together.
Coats? I've been putting a teaspoon of olive oil in their morning and evening feedings for the last month and have noticed a definite increase in the sheen on their coats.
I didn't even see Nelson in the background...lol....

As to the eggs... I would think once a day is a bit much as well. What about cholesterol?
Love the avatar Maggie!
Thanks all. Yep any more info would be great
