Hurray Kaye and Tanya!!.. |
We got back late yesterday evening with Major. I stopped by and talked to Tommy {Tanya } on the way home. She was going to foster him....He has some other health problems that have to be cleared up before he can be neutered. He has severe ear infections in both ears.He has had the infection for a long time. He has either an bad bladder infection or prostrate problems or worse....... His urine has a real strong smell......He is leaking urine........So it was just to much to put on Tanya.........She struggled so long and hard trying to save her Tommy...Having another sick boy to take care of would be asking to much......She was sure willing to take Major and help him........ I didn't know what to expect from a dog that has lived his whole life in a small pen and used for breeding.......He is a Sweetheart...Very Sweet, Friendly and Gentle........We've started him on antibotics and he will see the Vet Tuesday.........Hopefully we can get those problems cleared up and get him neutered and he can have a good life here with the other old Babies..... Kaye |
Major went to the Vet yesterday and it isn't good news......He has had the ear infetions for so long that there is damage to the inner ear. He is deaf..It is just something we'll deal with..........But the real problem is .....We thought he had a bladder infection.....They are saying Prostrate Cancer........ So now we have to find out how advanced the cancer is....If it isn't to far advanced we'll go ahead and have him neutered....The testrone feeds the cancer....So we could slow it down. He is going to a Onocoligist in Dallas.Don't know when that appointment is yet. If it is advanced then we make a disicion then.......He is So Sweet........Kaye |
Poor Major! Bless you, Kaye, for caring for this old gentleman. He deserves the best in his senior years and I know he's found it in you. |
Kaye,
How heartbreaking it must be for you to see this gentle boy in this condition. What an angel you are for saving him. My thoughts are with you and please keep us updated. Marianne and the boys |
im so sorry to hear about major, but i am so glad that there are people like you to take care of sick sheepies! |
Kaye, I'm so sorry to hear about Major! But I'm so glad he's with you - it's the best place he can be.
Please keep us updated. Chris |
I echo what everyone else has said. Now, regardless how much time he has left he will be well cared for and well loved.
I hope you get better news then expected from the oncologist. Good Luck Major! |
Hi Shug,
How is Major settling in his new forever home? Marianne and the boys |
Marianne, Major is being fostered by TL My Rescue Helper down here. We can't get an appointment with the Cancer Specialist in Dallas until after the 1st of the year because of the Holidays coming up.......Working on the ear infection right now......Will have another blood test done...He is anemic so trying to build him up .......At 9 years old he isn't in shape to even have him neutered yet....Depending on how the blood work looks .....We'll make a decision about the cancer then.............Kaye |
Kaye,
You are such a special person and I know Major is in good hands. We know you will make the right choices for him. |
Kaye,
I'm sorry to hear about Major, what a poor boy I have a boy with cancer and here is something you can try to build up his immune system: CAS Options www.genesisvets.com It was recommended to us by Beau's cancer specialist. In the meantime I hope he isn't in pain, if he is I hope they give him something for it. Holly |
Major is finally in good enough health to have him neutered....His ear infection has cleared up.Have been working building up his immune system........Having him neutered will stop the testrone feeding the cancer..... He has learned to play ...It took a couple of weeks before he figured out he wasn't living in a pen and could run around......Kaye Second Chance OES Rescue |
Hi Kaye,
That's a wonderful Christmas gift..for Major to have better health and also a better life! I was so happy to hear this news and I'll keep praying for this boy. Please keep us posted. Marianne and the boys |
Good news! |
Major went to see the Cancer Specialist in Dallas today.....We took all the tests they had done in Abilene with us..... The cancer has spread into his intestines........... I will not put this Dear Sweet Boy thru chemo......He is 9 years old and lived his whole life in a cage......He walks around on grass and even sometimes runs a little......He eats small amounts of special cooked food......So as long as he is enjoying LIFE ........ When his quality of Life reachs that point I will make that decision..... We have a little while.....So I will Love Him and Hold Him and try to make up for his first nine years.......He sleeps next to bed on a blanket and is not in a cage......Thats what it is all about!!!!!!!!!!!! I amde him a Promise when I got him in Missouri......I will Keep That Promise.......Sheepie Hugs, Kaye |
How sad At least Major will know some love for the time he has remaining. |
Poor Major. I am glad that at least the last months of his life will be happy ones. |
You are an angel, Kaye. Thank you for loving Major. |
I know this can't be easy, Kaye. Thank you so much for the love and caring you're giving Major in whatever time he has left.
Chris |
You are wonderful, Kaye! So happy Major found you to show him a what a good life can be. |
Major is really feeling pretty well this morning.....He is on predisone and that makes them feel better right away.... It is cool and nice outside and he is actually playing tug of war with Joe Bob....... Enjoy the good times..... Bless his Little Heart.....Kaye |
Kaye,
What you do is amazing! I am so happy for you, but at the same time what a hard thing for you to go through. I am betting this may have been covered in a different thread, but where did he come from in MO? Could the rescue give you much info on the miller? I just wonder how many other sheepies he had...... You are both in our thoughts .......... Kirstin |
I know where he came from.......The women bought some OES puppies from this puppymill....Listed them on Petfinder....The breeder just threw him in for free...... They bred him until he could breed anymore.I don't how long he had cancer before they threw him out...But having Prostrate Cancer could sure make it difficult to breed..... These people don't say of " There 6 years old we need to retire them"......GGGGRRRRRRR They breed them until they either can't make Babies or can't have Babies anymore......The females are bred everytime they come in heat.....Time after time after time.............Bred to death.....Then taken to a dog auction........or worse.........
