| The package released by phpBB that fixes the avatars problem, also fixes 43 other problems. No, that's not a typo, and it's not an exaggeration. There are 44 fixes in the package, and each one needs to be applied to the forum.
Instead of releasing a fix for the immediate problem, they (phpBB) decided to roll up all of the changes they've been working for, in secret, for many months. I will NOT install such a huge number of changes into the forum before others have ironed out any new bugs they have introduced. This has already saved the forum from problems, as they accidentally left out two files from the distribution package. Then after I am satified that they haven't introduced many more bugs, I will try out the new changes on another forum that I run, before I install them into oes.org. I do all of this stuff in the middle of the night to reduce the number of people affected by the chnages, and I haven't been feeling well to stay up all night to make the changes. In addition, oes.org has moved to a new machine, and then over the last 2 days the technical underpinnings of the system were also upgraded causing a problem that many people noticed with the "how many people are chatting" code that has worked fine for months. Soooo, the next person who asks me about the avatars is going to get 3 lashes with a limp noodle. Maybe 4 if I'm in a bad mood!
