In the time that we were gone, an older couple got Grizzly into their car and was going to steal him when our neighbors saved the day. They took Grizz out of their car (which had two other dogs in it) and took him to their house. We were shocked because we lived in a nice town in Iowa. We've since found out that this is a common occurence and that you should NEVER leave your dog outside while you are not home. Many dogs are stolen and abused or sold. I pray that this never happens to another sheepdog or other dog! |

Can you tell me where in Iowa that this happened. I live in SE Iowa, in Fairfield and would want to know if my dog is in danger from these people.
Thanks Renee reneeonet@yahoo.com |
Pet snatcher's aren't the only danger!
But my dog will still get to stay out while I am gone. Nobody is going to infringe on my and my dog's personal rights to freedom in our own backyard. Now I am looking around the yard more. We put up security lights and I am thinking about extending our security system to include the gates. Yesterday I came home and the back gate was open. Abbi was by the back door all muddy and gooey (it's been raining down here this week and there's this huge ditch out back). So I went and closed it, put some bricks up on the gate. While washing dishes I see the gate being shoved open. It was these optical cable guys trying to get into our yard to put a metal ladder up to a high voltage electric pole. I reamed them every way possible. Had their driver's license and the police out there. They kept saying they had assess rights. And I said they had to come knock on my door first. Reported them to everybody I could think of and had my camera out taking photos. They packed up and went home. I padlocked the gates. They had busted out two of the panels, called and complained, but even SBC wouldn't take responsibility. Letting my dog out! I am still furious. Police said I should have called them earlier. Utility people do not have the right to endanger property, including your pets. In case I hadn't mention it, the front gate had been left open (by someone unknown, the kids were at school) a couple of weeks ago and Abbi got into some rat poison in a neighbor's garage -- as I was running after her! So she only got a couple of pieces that I couldn't scrape of her tongue. Boy did she like that stuff. Must have sugar in it. That all worked out, but now we have to unlock the gates to do yard work. What a pain. But a pain we will live with for now. |
Way to go! Nothing worse than crossing a mother bear protecting her cub...which is what I see in this case. Even the nicest person will defend their baby aka Sheepie. Glad you set them straight! Glad Abbi was okay.
As for the first post - thanks for informing us and very fortunate indeed that your neighbors stepped in. Glad to hear that you too have your furball safe. |
thanx for the tip about utility people. i agree they should ask first. i have had to pay a fine before in another town because they came in my backyard and said my dog was dangerous. the only dog we had at that time was a shar pei under 6 months and she was inside! i sent pictures and everything but my power was shut off until i paid. last night someone let my neighbor's dogs out of their yard. i found one dog dead from a hit and run this morning. this behaviour makes me sick! i have 2 gates and keep one unlocked as my son rides his bike home from school and takes his bike to the backyard. think we need to make some changes. |
