Welcome to the forum!
I would suggest some training, either formally in a class (which is more to teach you appropriate techniques than to teach the dog), or just at home. There are some good books to give you some ideas as well. I would start by giving the dog a command you will use consistantly, like "Off!" and then turn your back on the dog and ignore him for a few minutes. I have found giving the dog a command to do something else, like "Sit" and then praise the dog, works well. It teaches the dog you are pleased with him when he sits to greet you not jumps all over you. It is important to make sure all family members, and even guests, know this is what you are doing and they need to do it as well or the dog will be confused and think he can jump on some people and not others. |
Welcome to you and Sammy...we used the can method...rocks in a soda can...every time Panda jumped on us we shook the can...she has learned to stay off...but the hard part was keeping the can with you all the time |
Welcome to the forum! Please post pics of Sammy. |
Welcome! |
Hi ,
Welcome to the forum and no doubt you'll find some good advice from everyone here. You might want to do a search on jumping or post your own question in the behavior forum as you'll probably get more info there. Don't hesitate to post as it's a friendly place!
