Okay I'm gonna boast...I installed laminate flooring in the living room, dining room and hallway in two days!!! I figured out last year to work a Mitre Saw, Jigsaw and dovetail saw and accomplished the nasty bit of work. Ripping out carpets, hammering, sawing, vaccuming..and laying down the vapour floor..then the laminate. Wheeeee I even taught Kaj how to do it before he left for Holland. It meant non stop work round the clock for almost two days with only a little rest inbetween. Finally I have a house with no dirty floors..after removing the rose colored carpet. Our rainy west coast climate, three dogs and four cats didn't suit rose colored carpet anyhow..which truthfully looked beige or brown. Now I feel I'm on a mission....I started the front hallway. Except the three furballs felt like they needed to help since I was on my own. Laying down when I laid down the boards to see what it looked like before the initial work. Oh forget that...maybe tomorrow I'll start. I also finally got to post my own pics!!!! Ohhh my head is going to burst from this big ego trip. Thanks to Kaj whom was shocked I was using the hand me down ancient computer..he purchased an inexpensive one before he left. No crashes! no groans from this one!! I managed to post pics of Merlin and Panda picketing, and one of the boys sleeping at the end of the day..shows a tiny glimpse of my new floors. I'd better stop getting big headed which ironically is what Merlin looks like after a trip to the groomers...his body was shaved but she left the hair on his head. Oh my!! I tried not to embaress him and laugh. Thanks for listen to me ramble. Marianne and the boys |

Ramble away! I'm very proud of you, the floor looks fan-tastic!!
And I know that 'cause I saw it in the picture you posted! What's next?? |
I hear you ROAR! Awesome stuff! Good to be proud. I'm impressed!

I wish one day I can do stuff like that in my house. Way to go!

WOOOOHOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!! You DA WOMAAAAAAAAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Seriously, I am MOST impressed!!!!!!! I'll never forget how proud I was the first time I went out and bought a POWER TOOL and figured out how to use it ( a drill!!) What a feeling of POWER!!! I have a living room that is just BEGGING for laminate, in fact it still has just the sub floor down. Last year when we finished the house we ran out of $ and wanted laminated and decided that rathe than throw down something cheap we'd wait til we could afford THE GOOD STUFF. COME ON DOWN and give us a hand!!!! Congratualtions You should be proud of your accomplishment!! |
Marianne, you go girl!
Don't you just love power tools? I put them on my Christmas list. You did a great job, love the color choice. Today the floor, tomorrow the ........! |
YAY! Good for you Marianne!
I am the one who does all that stuff around our house, I love power tools! LOL I want to put new flooring in my room, it has a nasty old carpet and the dogs have to go right through my room to go out to the deck and yard, so I have been throwing old remnant peices down in a strip from the door in about 4 feet. It helps, but at this time of year it looks gross. I'll just throw the remnant out and replace it when snow comes, and stays. However, it would be so much easier if it was just laminate. One of these days! LOL Enjoy the new puter, Kaj sounds pretty awesome too |
Husband knew he married something special when on my first birthday after our marriage I asked for a power drill and jig saw. Wish I was still limber enough to get down and around for putting in new floors, etc. I have a bathroom that needs to be gutted. |

I'd give anything for a jigsaw!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
Great job, Marianne! And I'm so jealous of all you ladies who can do stuff like this yourselves! I used to help my husband do some bigger jobs, but as my back deteriorated, so did my helpfulness. Now I just let him do all the fix-it jobs. I'm just glad he can do it all!

I just bought a jigsaw during the bathroom project . . . Ryobi cordless . . . you can borrow it any time! |
Wow. What a woman!
How are the dogs working out on the hardwood? Are they scratching it, or sliding into things due to lack of traction? I want to put hardwood down also, but am afraid the guys will ruin the finish. When you throw that big ball, does the dog head it back to you? |
I'm drooooooooooling!!!! I bought Doug a Ryobi mitre saw for his birthday this year. I am hoping that in a year or so we can put up a garage and have a place to put a shop of sorts. Right now my spare bedroom, which is also the computer room and the office and the sewing room and my stainglass workshop, is the power saw shop........ So we don't have much room for woodworking!!! |
Good for you! The floors look great! |
You seriously ROCK Marianne!! That's awesome!! Wish I were that handy. |
Hi Everyone,
Well seems we have many talented people at this forum!! For those of you who claim you wouldn't be able to do it...trust me..I write this stuff cause if I can do it..anyone can! Ha Ha (I'm the queen of klutz.) It was thanks to those free courses at Home Depot. They're quite good and you can go back time and time again and ask questions. In fact, I also go to a lot of different places and am truthfull that I took the course at another place but having trouble with this or that and I always find the staff helpful. Feeling a bit silly the other day when I went to the hardware store with Jigsaw and asked how to change the blade. Customer service called the person working in tools...it was an elderly lady!! I felt kinda silly when discovering it was just a matter of pushing a switch and retrieving the old blade and clicking in the new one. Ha ha! Maybe that's why women are getting good at this stuff...we're not afraid to ask questions that may possibly make us look silly...kinda like asking for directions. (Disclaimer: not meant to offend the men folk here). I ask for them to check measurements and ask them to recommend how much I should purchase of a particular material. Bringing along the original real estate's agents measurements of the room layouts. They do the math always coming close to the amount of materials I need. Works for me!! I'm getting ready to one day fullfill my dream of buying a hobby farm or fixer upper with lots of property(5-10 yr plan in the future) and filling up the place for aged sheepies. Getting the practise now. Marianne and the boys |
Duh; why ask questions; we know it all anyway! |
