BITING
I have a 11 month male OES, "Rudy" he is very hyper which I can understand he is still a puppy, however Rudy constantly bites my husband and I and I don't know how to break this habbit, it's not like he breaking skin but it still hurts and leaves bruise's I have taken him to obedience class but nothing seems to help, Is there anyone out there that can send me advise? :cry: Thanks Kim |

There's tons of advise in the forum about that, search the previous threads to see excellent ideas. What works for us is: 1. Ignore. Turn around and don't touch or pet when play biting starts. You can pet the dog when it's calmed down again. 2. Provide an alternate chew thing. Keep a toy handy so you can show the dog that biting toys is OK, humans, not OK. 3. Yelp. Every time your doggie bites you, yelp like a puppy, this one is effective. 4. Use a dog deterent. Something like Bitter Apple spray applied to your hands and clothes while you play will taste horrible to your doggie, so it will think twice befor biting you. I had a lot of trouble with Sofa, she bit you every time she got exited and we managed to keep it at bay. It's annoying and you can get hurt by accident, even if your doggied did not mean to hurt you... Good Luck! |
| It sounds like what you are describing is excited nipping rather than biting. They are a herding breed, so most if not all have gone through this at some point.

Consistency is key, and toning down greetings is a good idea too. |
