However, the past couple of days it seems as though he can't get enough food. I fill his bowl with his 4 cups and he eats until they are all gone, then he comes over to me, as if asking for more. Usaully when we eat dinner, I give in and give him another cup or two. Is this due to his age, or the change in weather (the temp has started to drop). I don't want to overfeed him and cause him to be overweight; but I don't want to starve him. Has anyone else experienced anything like this? Is he just stalking up for the winter or should I be concerned? |

Hmmm, I would guess weather. Nothing else is coming to mind, medically. Interesting..... |
I would also agree on the weather change. Max has been eating a lot more than he was during the summer. Same thing with my kitties. I fill Max's bowl every morning and he would usually have some left at the end of the day, but now he polishes off the bowl before dinner time, so I give him more, he's almost 10 months old now. I guess it could also be some sort of growth spurt, as he is filling out a bit and doesn't look as gangly as he did a few months ago. |
Maybe he's storing up his winter fat layer............. |
My dogs have been eating more too, I think it's winter coming that's all. I would keep an eye on him though, in case it is a parasite problem or some other health issue. |
Pogo is also eating more, I agree, the temp. is dropping and they are using more energy. |
My boys seem more hungry too! The Gooch who honestly thinks playing is much better than eating most of the time, has been gobbling up his dinner and looking for more! He has a new habit of stealing some of the cats kibble when we are upstairs now!
This is not winning the affection of "Natty Cat"! Who does not like the boys to begin with! |
I was just thinking about this the other day, Beau still is hungry after he eats. I feed him 1 cup dry and 1 tbsp canned dog food in the morning and evening. I guess I didn't think about the weather changing. Good point!
Oh, by the way, Beau is 11 months old today. |
Shouldn't Beau be eating more than 2 cups a day? I would think a male at 11 months should be eating at least 3 cups if not 4 cups a day?
Abby is eating 8 cups a day, but she is nursing pups so that is to be expected. Dancer and Sky are eating 3 cups a day, but lately I have been adding another cup later in the day to their bowls because they are empty sooner than usual. Sky seems to be going through a growth spurt (she is 16 months old) so she seems to be thinning out a bit as she develops a more muscular feel. |

I was thinking the same thing. Beau's a big boy but I don't think he needs to lose any weight either! Clyde's close to his age and size and he eats 4 cups of dry food a day plus treats here and there. I free feed 2 cups in the morning and 2 cups when we get home from work and that seems to be plenty for him. |
I was thinking the same thing. Bosley is almost 7 months old, 53 pounds and eats between 5 and 6 cups a day, split between two meals of 2 1/2 or 3 cups each meal. And he eats veggies for snacks between meals. He is not fat at all, and is moderately active. |
