For all the upcoming babies, a recommendation....

Hi All,
I just ordered this for Hayley's crib.
http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html/sr ... B00005BPEU
She had a bumper that came with her Winnie The Pooh crib set. Bumpers like this are not safe
They tie on to the rails and can easily be moved. I found Hayley with the bumper around her head. I totally flipped and ran to her. Luckily she was ok. I then removed the bumper and she got her arms and legs caught in the rails. I put it back on while waiting for this breathable bumper to arrive. I even tucked it a bit under the mattress. She still got to it.
This is a safe alternative and comes with trim colors too....not only the white which I purchased. Here is that link http://www.target.com/gp/search.html/re ... x%3Dtarget
If you are more interested in safety than looks, I would highly recommend this product. I have been using it for 4 days now and it is absolutely the best thing I have purchased so far. She cannot get it off. It basically wraps around the rails and velcros on the outside. She cannot get her arms and lets stuck. Also it leaves the top rail open to attach toys, mobiles..etc
If the above link does not work... Go to Target.com and search for Breathable Bumpers.
BTW... This is only available on the web...not in Target Stores

I'll post this on the JAN mommy board I go to! I'm sure those who want to be super cautious will love this. I already bought the normal kind of bumpers (knowing from the reviews that bumpers can be dangerous). I couldn't resist the entire boyd's bear collection (Bedding/room).
Joahaeyo,
I would say that a normal type bumper is ok until the baby starts moving around the crib. Hayley is all over when she sleeps. I swear when I saw her there with that bumper around her neck I almost had a heart attack. My heart literally stopped. I have never experienced anything so scary.
I am not overly safety conscious. I didn't have one of those movement monitors that go under the sheets...but this is something that I think everyone that is going to put their baby in a crib should have.
I know the crib sets are adorable... but my daughter's life is more important than having cute bedding. I just added those wall apliques (sp?)
with Winnie the Pooh all over the Nursery...
The room is so cute...and really who really looks at the crib besides you.
I am not trying to scare you here.. I am just being honest and telling you what happened here. I wouldn't want anyone to have to go through that or worse.

Elissa,

Wow- Scary!!! Even thought we're not expecting (yet, to all things a season!) this is good advice! Thanks for the link, I'm gonna save that in my favorites. 25$ seems cheap for baby safety! and Jo- I NEED!!!! that link to the boyds bear nursery stuff. I collect boyds anyhow- the "nursery" room is the bear room right now, and how precious to have boyds bedding!!!!!

Karen :)
Well, I definitely didn't throw out the link! I emailed it to myself. I can't bookmark it since this isn't my computer.

You sound like my SIL. She's got this beautiful home (down the road from a famous Dallas Cowboy!) yet she decorates it with Boyd Bear's. lol We always joke around with her because most people have things other than bears over their fireplace. ...but she always manages to make things look classy. I guess there's a big boyd's center in VA because we were supposed to go there last month before our flight was cancelled due to the hurricane.

Bedding: Bedding on average is over $250 for just sheet, dust ruffles, and comforter. Since I feel that is ridiculous (for a baby), I went for CHEAPEST i could find that got the best ratings. That's how I found this boyd's collection. It came for so much for a great price. I TOTALLY don't regret it. The reviews are right on (that the sheets feel like they're high thread count, very soft comforter, and nothing cheap looking). I figure it could be used for our second kid too (if it's a girl). Plus it's cute to see the boyd's stamp on everything. ;)

I bought one extra bedding sheet in case he wets, and I wish I got the matching mobile that goes over the crib. We got a free one that's wonderful, but it won't match anything (huge aquarium looking thing).
I checked out the link you posted to the bumper pad. I don't have little ones anymore but I still check it out for when I have grandchildren.I think the breathable bumper pad is an excellent idea. I don't think it looks bad either. Jeez you wonder though my generation survived our childhood.I'm only 41 but when I was little I remember we didn't even wear seatbelts. A car pulled out in front of my dads truck once and I remember my mom shoved us down under the dash so we wouldn't fly out.
You could always put that mobile over the changing table and get the other one for the crib.
The only reason I know this is because my best friend just did it.
Oh, that's smart! I almost forgot that we don't have a changing table yet.
That is a waaayyyy cute set. I do my best to keep the bears at an absolute minimum in the rest of the house but the little bedroom is gonna be bear heaven when I unpack. I even have a little "noah's ark" boyds lamp that would be sooo cute in a boyds nursery! Thanks for sharing, and giving me a reason to buy more boyds stuff (as if I needed another reason  )

Karen :)

That's a great idea, some mommy out there is now a millionaire with that idea. Fortunately my kids behaved in the crib, we had the traditional pad.

I e-mailed this to my cousin who is expecting. I may even make her one, it sounds so simple, and you can buy the mess fabric, and velcro, at any fabric store. Iron on a few ink appliques, and it's all done. Plain Jane can be fancied up and still in theme.
Daisie,
You might be the next millionaire. That is a great idea.
The pad is made up of two different pieces of mesh so it's kind of plush.
There is one piece that wraps around the rail that moves up & down & one big piece that wraps around the other three side

You know, I only live about an hour from the Boyd's Bear 'factory'. Anyone want to come visit?
