This morning we let him out in the backyard, as we do every morning. He is usually back in 15 minutes. But today- he just disappeared. We searched high and low in the neighborhood. None of our neighbors saw him, as they usually do in the morning. We can't imagine what happened to him and it breaks my heart to think he might be hurt and in pain somewhere. The weather is very cold - in the single digits, and I know he cannot survive out there. Sometimes lately he has been disoriented. Maybe he could not find his way home. |

Hi,
My heart went out to you when I read this post - how terribly sad for you. I'm not sure of where you live but the one plausible explaination could be a coyote wandered in your yard as they often go after weak or young animals. I feel terrible for suggesting this and I'm hoping that perhaps he wandered off and will be found. I am praying that will be the case. Please let us know if you have found him and hugs to all of you. |
Sometimes I wish my gradfather had been born in our era. Whenever one of our older dogs wandered off, he would say that they probably knew they were ready to go and went off to find God. He claimed they always knew where to go and how to find HIM.
I hope you find you old friend, but if not, go to the Rainbow ridge topic. No pet owner in the world can help to feel sympathy for you and your family. There are lots of us here who have lost a loved one and wouldn't mind sharing your grief. Please make sure to tell the City Pound, just in case. |
Hi,
My heart goes out to you and yours. We experienced a similiar situation with our 13 year old Goldendoddle, not a breed at that time. He went out for his morning walk and didn't return. I found him a couple of days later nestled under and old oak deep in the woods as if he had just laid down to sleep. I thought of the indians and how the elders would just walk off into nowhere to go back to their MOTHER EARTH when they knew their time was near and if it were their fate to be eaten by the wild animals than it was even more of an honor to die, because they served one last purpose here on earth. No matter how a beloved pet goes it is never easy, but time does have a way of healing all wounds and filling the void left in the heart with the good memories and love for others that come our way. |
