Round ball cake pans?

My mother thought I should bake my husband's birthday cake in one of the round ball cake pans by Betty Crocker. So she bought me one. It's the type than has an insert that creates a hollow. Anyone use one?

I've never used one, but they fascinate me!
never used one too but I went out to a cook book club and it did no get good reviews.Said it was hard to use. Other than that I want anyway LOL
Im fasinated by it too...let me know how good it works
I've never tried one either, sorry. But they do look like they would make yummy cakes. All kinds of combinations possible.
What kind are you going to try?
Actually for the first attempt I though chocolate cake with raspberry icing and for the center a raspberry cake. It's all from mixes with fresh raspberries added to that yucky canned icing--on sale for $1 a piece so no great expense. If goes well, then I can experiment. Instructions don't sound too bad. Trick may be unmolding.

OK, first attempt report. Hard to remove from pans. Followed instructions exactly and still lost top. Either these things need a lot of seasoning or I need to figure out if parchment can be folded well enough to cover a dome. Takes longer for dome to bake.......recommend 50-60 minutes. My oven small so had to do it in three shifts to get the base, dome and insert baked. So did take half a day. Dislike the base, it's too thin. I used one of my other cake pans and tho slightly larger diameter, it worked better and the extra half inch for a base wasn't noticeable.

If you just want to make dome shaped cakes, use your Pyrex mixing bowls.

You know, even mixing sour cream into the canned frosting and adding kalua still doesn't eliminate the "canned" taste.........
