My favorite player is Mike Piazza and one of these days (and probably soon) his knees are going to give out and he'll probably be in Baltimore as the designated hitter. I feel dirty now! 
Maybe then I'll convert, until then down with the designated hitter and while we're at it, astroturf! |
| If you're going to get rid of the hitting specialist, why not get rid of the pitching specialists, and force the 9 starting players to finish the game, and/or take turns pitching, or something else like that?
Not having a designated hitter makes for very strange things in the National League, with managers taking out effective pitchers to try to get a hit, having $20 millon players trying to bunt, or being a "sure out". Yuck. I can't think of anything more exciting than a DH like Big Papi (David Ortiz) standing in at the plate with the game on the line. Can you think of anything more boring than a pitcher up with 2 outs and nobody on in the third? Time to get a sandwich. |

And that was the amazing thing about the White Sox in the AL championship - 4 complete games! You just don't see much of that. But I agree - I'd rather see the manager use the DH and leave the pitcher in than have to pull a guy who's still pitching a strong game. |
| Geez How did I not know this thread was going on???? I'm so proud of the White Sox ! They are a great team. An actual team! Each one contributes, no superstars carrying the team. Just good solid team work. Yep, Paula, I've got a "hankerin'"for some Boston Creme pie. We'll have to get together, with the other White Sox fans from here, and have Boston Creme pie, then "angel" food cake, and hopefully, listen to some St. Louis blues! I will celebrate by myself while everyone else is asleep. 
I don't think they'll make it far, but it's not every day I have a reason to watch baseball. I'm not a big fan of it and get mad if someone turns it there, but we've watched the Astros all the way this year. I hope we win the WS, but losing would be far from a choke. This franchise has exorcised a lot of demons over the past 2 seasons. |
