July would be great, kids are off school by then. |

The only time way I can ever get away is if I bring my dogs with me , so sounds great! We could make a day of it....say...a miniature Ontario sheepfest! Of cource my husband will whine about being left out, so he's have to come too. He is not really a dog-person, but he loves to cook and socialize, and is a lot of fun...really.. We can put him to work...That's it! The men can do the food thing so we can do the dog and wine...you know, the important stuff!!! |

Quote: When we are home alone she doesnt bark but if my daughter is home or my husband she just barks at them over and over and over! It is so hard to ignore the high pitched bark! I have 4 kids and she only barks at one? I dont get it.
I would watch very closely thow the interactions are between them. Are thye fun, and excited? So Morgan get into an elevated state of activity? Or perhaps Morgan is interpreting signals differently, or not at all. Sometimes it may the smell (perfume? hair-spray? after-shave? cigarette smoke?) or the look e.g. do they dress differntly or have a differnt hairstyle? Before you can figure out how to fix it you need to find out what the basis of the barking in, so put yourself into MOrgans place and play a bit of detective : ) |
An Ontario Sheepie get together? WE ARE IN!
That would be soooooooooooooo fun!!!!! Carl and Michele Lindon? They are in Ottawa...Marg Trenholm is pretty close too!? I know she would love to see Murphy! The Gooch makes a mean Margarita! There really are quite a few of us! And the boys have been admiring Poppy, Dancer and Sky! Let's do it!!!! |
thanks bosley,
My morgan barks at my daughter when she is near anyone else. When she is home alone with Morgan she cuddles next to her. Morgan hates when she is on the couch with her boyfriend watching TV. She will bark and nip at her, right in her face she will bark. She doesnt stop. Like I said I have 4 kids and only does it to her! |
Poppy's Mom
I dont think these dogs ever get hoarse! I have tried to ignore my pooch and she just doesnt stop, she can bark forever. And that bark is hard to ignore! |
Glad to hear that my girl isn't the only one that doesn't get hoarse.
An Ontario Sheepiefest would be fun. We'd be up for it. I'm sure Matthew would love to see tonnes of sheepies in one place. I'm way overdue for a vacation too. Let's figure out a midpoint for everyone and find a place that is sheepie friendly and go for it. I make a to die for brownie cherry cheesecake and a really good strawberry daquiri..... |
I wish they would do a sheepiefest in NJ I would love that!!! |

OK...that just sealed the deal! Stacey? Would your place be an option? I will have it if everyone wants, but I'm not in the middle! Did I mention that Grant FINALLY got a hold of someone to build our fence? He said he'll be able to do it in the next couple of weeks! He also will build some stairs down from our second level porch and build a deck next spring....I love this man! So if you all want me to have it, I will have a safe, big area for all the Sheepies to romp and play! We are also considering putting in a pool (above ground of course...unless anyone knows of a man that's good with dynamite!) but that would depend on what our Million Dollar fence comes in at! That might be nice for the upright children...but I can't promise we'll have it for sure. This is going to be so fun! The Gooch and Murph are so excited! |
My husband has taken to calling this whole event "Sheepstock".
He thinks we should meet in Woodstock. He's a sick sick man..... |
Mindarissa, they do one in Philly every spring. Shouldn't be too bad for you. If the Michigan people can make it, east coast people have it easy. |
Yeah and the Michigan people are already planning on the Philly picnic for 2006! |
I'm not set up for guests.... my house is crowded even when we don't have company...lol... also my yard is mostly fenced, but not all the way, the front part at the driveway is not fenced (one of the reasons I use a tie out cable and go out with my dogs, never leaving them on their own)
We don't have a single "dog park" in my area either. I might have an idea though.... but I will get back to you on that.... |
I have a great place for such an event....huge country house, 1/2 an acre fully fenced yard, lots of parking, a dog run on the side ( if we need to separate any dogs) a huge shade tree in the centre of the yard that 30 people could sit under, but I am just west of Toronto, so it would be a bit much of a trek for ay trip from Ottawa area...Something mid-way sure would be better for all. |
Us Michigan people are only about 4 hours away too. |
Bosley's Mom,
Your house sounds just like my place, with the exception of the fenced yard. We've got an invisible fence, so that won't work for a great big get together. Milton is not too bad, especially when you consider people coming from Windsor or Niagara area...not that I'm just a little bit biased because it's only about 25 minutes from my place . If there are people coming from farther away and they want to stay in a hotel that is "dog friendly", I could always check things out in this area and offer some suggestions. We've got lots of time to figure this out. Maybe we could have it at Ladykin's in St. Agatha...she's got a great place to meet. It is sheepdog heaven, afterall. |
Jill ready my mind . . .
Ha, I think us Michigan people will travel anywhere! |
I would happily go to Philly for that! Not even 2 hrs from here. |
Just thought I would split the thread and put all this stuff on it's own since we kind of hi-jacked the barking thread....lol.... |
ooh sounds like fun....I can host it too....we just bought a house with 12.5 acres of land...ALL fenced! Pasture is fenced separatly from the back yard.
I'll be like Bosley's mom..pulling burrs and such out of the dogs fur. When we move we are getting another dog too...an 8 year old German Shepard...he is my brother's dog. At least I got hubby to agree to shear the sheepdogs in spring when we move there |

He thinks we should meet in Woodstock. He's a sick sick man..... Woodstock is practically in my backyard, I'm UP FOR THAT!!!!!!!!!!! |
I'm up for that.. I would love to travel to Ontario to meet everyone and to see some sheepies. |
I was talking to Grant about this last night...I think we would really like to stay overnight. So if we could find a "dog friendly" motel close to where we are planning that would be great! That way we could enjoy ourselves and not worry about a long drive home at night!
THIS IS SO EXCITING! |

I talked to Marg today, and I think she is in too! Thought you would like to hear that! And you have to bring that gorgeous BM doggie of yours so I can play with his eyebrows! |
Count me in.. Murphy, Dudley and myself....
ROAD TRIP.. |
Ok, so aside from choosing a location, what about a date? I was thinking July, mainly because it won't be snowing...lol.... and because I'm off work by then for the summer...lol.... also for me anyway, the first weekend in July will be shows that are fairly close to home, not ones I'd want to miss. The first weekend people are usually busy anyway, with either Canada Day or Independance Day celebration.
What about either July 15 or July 22? Those are both Saturdays, the Sundays would be fine with me too. Whatever is convenient for the majority is best, I am pretty flexible. We can arrange ahead of time to each bring something different in terms of food, salads, chips, drinks, buns, coldcuts maybe? Obviously for those that have to travel more than a couple of hours something non perishable would be best. I have an ex pen, and I'm sure a few others do as well, those might be an idea as well to separate any dogs if need be, or give them a break from romping around drooling on each other. |
I agree that after the July long weekend would be great, I am going to Winnipeg for a wedding that weekend! So those weekends sound good!
We would have to bring something that didn't spoil easily, but whatever is fine! We don't have an X pen but we do have a big crate...not that either of my guys would tolerate being seperated from the fun...thought The Gooch is a big drooler and everyone might appreciate him taking a time out! This is going to be awesome! |
